It's funny, they talked about "Bringing the franchise full-circle back to claustrophobic horror" at the end of the video, and Alien: Isolation just came out, which from what everyone's telling me sounds like the real Alien/Aliens follow-up we've spent almost 30 years waiting for. Guess they called it.
@LUCKO20228 жыл бұрын
+genuinesaucy Yeah it is a awesome game. It's a bit too long in certain places because it almost seems like they couldn't make up their mind on how to end the game. But it is intense when you are just going along minding your own business then the fucking Alien shows up out just no where, scared the shit out of me several times throughout the game.

A few years ago they showed the special edition again in theaters in Holland. I immediately went to see it. Teens were laughing and making fun of it... but then the lights went out, and those very same teens became very.... very... quiet. The movie still terrified people who had never seen it.

Exactly! And now they are doing Prometheus which is a prequal to Alien, and what makes it really cool is that its directed by Ridley Scott. He will do it justice, but its hard to say though sometimes. Ridley is one of my favorite directors, maybe my favorite he has directed some of the best movies ever made like ALIEN, Gladiator, Blade Runner, but with producers always trying to posion an original idea these days where artistic freedom is getting more rare, I'm not sure how amazing its goin 2 be

I feel that we, the fans should share some of the blame for Prometheus. For decades we asked for more about the jockey and to elaborate on the origins of the xenomorph, and scott who hadn't touched sci fi since Blade Runner was probably too distanced from his original vision at this point... the old saying "careful what you wish for" comes to mind.

I honestly don't think anything is going to top the original Alien as far as the sci-fi horror genre goes, and it's been 40 years so far. Event Horizon is a cult classic and it's freaky but I just don't put it on the same pedestal as I do Alien. I really don't know what else you can do with the franchise at this point though. I mean, a video game(Alien Isolation) did the franchise more justice than the prequel movies directed by the man himself, Ridley Scott. Not knocking Ridley, I really do love his style but I think his vision for the franchise has just shifted too far from what it originally was. There's only one thing in my mind that could potentially rival and even top Alien as a sci-fi horror film, and that's a film adaptation of the game "Dead Space". The first game in the trilogy specifically. If for some reason you're a fan of sci-fi horror but either haven't heard of that game or even played it, you REALLY owe it to yourself to play it. I think if they made a faithful recreation of that game in movie format, it'd be absolutely incredible.

@MaxPayne19146 Oh, for sure. The late 70s were absolutely transformative. Star Wars and Alien changed science fiction utterly. (The battered, lived-in look of much of the SW universe was very influential on Alien.) And the production values and quality of workmanship on "Alien" is just stellar. Barring one of two minor moments, that film still looks like it could have been made yesterday. It's shot and lit beautifully, the script is great, the performances are excellent and it all feels REAL.

@jesus89vald If I am not mistaken, what I had heard was that humans had engineered the aliens by what will be later be known as Weyland Industries. They planned to use them to clear out indigenous lifeforms on planetary scales. The Space Jockeys were inter-stellar travelers. I am very interested how these space jockeys are involved with the xenos. The fossilized jockey in that "chair" seems massive. I hope we get to see his complete story.

I beg to differ...the acting was convincing. Nothing in the realm of an Oscar performance, but still convincing. Not every creature scene was consistently well done, but some scenes are just incredible (Norris head detaching from the body and walking of is still one of the most terrifying and memorable scenes in all of horror). If Alien is an A or A+ movie, than the Thing is at least in a B to B- range...it's not bad, it's just not as well crafted and consistently convincing as Alien.

@Drachenhannes12 жыл бұрын
Was it really Scott's vision to begin with? As far as i know he didn't write a single word of story. In my opinion directors just put pictures over the stories of other people thus making it their vision. In this case these people were Dan O'Bannon and Ronald Shusett. None of them had anything to do with Prometheus. Scott is a great director but as far as i'm concerned Alien never really was his creation.

Great movie. Not because it's supposed to be horror but just because as a film it's genius, especially for it's time. And seeing the making of made me understand and appreciate it even more, as making of's often do. The only thing that i kept rolling my eyes at though were all the references to people fainting and throwing up and crying and not being able to leave rooms for a day. Okay, women being slapped in the face and getting squirted in the face with fake blood who then break out in tears, sure, i believe it. A grown man balling his eyes out because his baby is being watched by millions on the big screen, yeah, i get that. But movie go'ers walking out of the movie to throw up outside, ushers fainting in the isles , honestly, the movie isn't that scary. Maybe it was something new back then compared to what we are used to now, although the first Texas Chainsaw Massacre wasn't all that pleasant either, but come on, really, spewing out your dinner again because an alien is lurking in the shadows and bursting out of people? Surely people have seen worse things than that. It just sounded to me that people in the 70's were a bunch of pussies. I'm sorry.

+SambabaL I saw ALIEN on opening night back in 79 I was eighteen years old at the time. The show was sold out and the only seats my friend and I could get were in the front row center. We joked about being too close to the screen, and how much more close to the monster we would be when it popped out at us. We laughed about how fake the Alien would look, Thinking this was a low budget film. The laughter stopped about five minutes in realizing this was no low budget movie at all. By the time the face hugger jumped out of the egg we knew we were in for a scary ride. My friend turned to me and said "This is hectic man!" "I don't know if I can take much more than this!" I was on the edge of my seat as well. The chest bursting sequence had loud screams from the audience, and many people got up and left the theater. About a third of the people were gone by the end of the film. A few dozen people also left the theater after Ripley blew up the ship, Missing the last encounter with the creature. By today's standards Alien is pretty tame to watch. But back then it was the film everyone was talking about. It haunted me for years, and makes me wish I was not as jaded about movies today. The main reason this movie remains my favorite film of all time is that when I first watched it all those years ago I did not know what to expect around that next corner. Artistically the most perfect monster movie ever made.

Yes and no. The movie is always made great by its actors, story, and set. The thing is a good example. It had bad acting, characters that weren't very interesting, and the story a lot of people couldn't get into. The creatures were just imagineless blobs of gore and blood and people hated it with a passion. I know the movie kind of has a cult following but that's why it never came close to meeting ALIEN's success or level of accomplishments.
