Day 26 of asking Tyler to play Magic Survival
@notchmath96422 жыл бұрын
There was one game I played years back where the concept was a platformer you played backwards through time, so you could “jump up” as high as you wanted because in reality you were falling, but if you fell too far you lost because you caused a paradox since you couldn’t have jumped that high. It was cool and I’ve always wished I could remember the name to play it again.

I love how when you finish a level it shows you the complete assembled linear timeline for that level on the menu
@CalebTerryRED2 жыл бұрын
Also, it shows the timeline as it was in its final state, in case it changes like in the last level of the video. This version of time travel is so cool (and consistent!). you can change the past, but only if the new timeline also causes itself. It's like a mandatory bootstrap paradox!

This game did time travel puzzles so good, most of the time time travel puzzle games that I’ve played use the same puzzles over and over again with just more steps, the puzzles don’t become hard they just become tedious, but mechanics such as the paradox in this games just adds more to the game overall and makes the puzzles more challenging

I kind of want to make a VR version of this kind of mechanic, where you see yourself in VR doing the thing you did previously... Could kind of look like the time travel video by Corridor. I don't have the experience to make it yet, and I think it would be far better if you were physically walking in real life (think omnidirectional treadmill), but the concept could be fun to explore in the future.

@Ze_eT2 жыл бұрын
@@ethanmacdonald8568 Portal Reloaded is a completely different type of time travel. TWTM (and Induction) is about time travelling just enough so that your past self can do something while you are there, with the room being the same. Portal Reloaded is a combination of "moving something in the past moves it in the future" and alternate rooms (the future rooms being decayed).

I was sceptical for the most part of this video, but 13:07 convinced me to stop watching an wait to play this game for myself. The mechanics up to that point were just standard timey-wimey game stuff, but requiring a consistent flow for every past self is what did it for me. Too bad I can't watch that to the end.

After playing; I am so amazed with this game! I love how the title explains the core concept: finding solutions based on the assumption that you already have a solution. This premise gives a lot of room to create my favourite type of puzzles: recursive ones. Highly recommend.

This reminds me of a really old concept mod for Unreal Tournament 3 called Prometheus. It involved making copies of yourself to interact on a single timeline to solve puzzles. One of them was absolutely nuts since it required one copy to open a door, another to take a bullet, and another to take the shot while the guard is reloading.

there was a time travel puzzle similar in concept to this in ratchet and clank a crack in time. the idea is you would create several past selves to make your way to the end of a room. only a mini-game within the rest of the game but still lots of fun.
@killstrike-zn1lv2 жыл бұрын
The reason why it's a paradox (when you don't have the cube end where you end) is because your past self never "makes" it to the end of the level, since it will repeat your moves backwards infinitely. While it can be assumed that it can, you can ensure it can if it ends up in the same location you ended your own loop. because their past self never makes it, and so on and so fourth, or rather, that it's not ensured, you have to make stable loops that always ensures that the past cube can always get to the end by repeating your exact moves.

Hey Tyler, The level select is weird now. For some reason the dev drastically changed its design in update 1.1.0, from (imo) an aesthetically pure circular design to the partly flat thing you're seeing now. You can see what the old version was like in Steam by rightclicking it in your games list > Properties... > Betas > opt into Legacy branch. It should keep all progress. But there were other updates since then, so you might end up missing something. I just really liked the circle...
