All you need are the steering arms off an old Green Machine! Dude, put a bimini on it, and bring it over to Kona next June. There is a Wee Ones Tournament, for boats under a total length of 23.5 feet. Guys show up in 13 foot Whalers. It would be epic to come cruising up to the pier in that thing, bimini up, and two Penn Senator setups!!!!

Looks like a lot of fun and the 2.5hp outboard seems to suit it well. 900 for the boat..another 800(?) for the outboard. 1700.00 on the water with something you can cartop or throw in the back of a pickup. OR one can save and get a trolling motor. Not a bad setup.

While I love the idea of the outboard motor, it sure seems to eat up a lot of valuable storage space. An "8 ball" steering mechanism would be killer!

2.5hp is for cruising... i love mine. My only advice to you is that as much as possible start the engine while the gear is engaged. You will save your transmission gear teeth by doing this.

The Johnny boat looks nice, the only thing I complain about it is the way you had to hold the throttle. This limits the space behind you, like having a little cooler or a tackle box.

I got the same motor on a sundophin sportsman. I have an gallon of gas and with a full tank I always only have to fill it up once for a full day of fishing with a 30lb thrust trolling motor.

Whats the speed comparison between the pelican catch pwr 100 and jonny boat? Do you feel they could be used for ocean fishing (only maybe 1-2 miles offshore on the second Dania Beach reef). Looking for an inexpensive option to reef fish and these with a brand new motor is cheaper than the solo skiff which was the other option for me.

Ocean kayak Malibu 2 xl - measured both ways 4-5 mph - I weigh 170 plus battery trolling motor and probably 20 more lbs - 4-5 mph - used free app called speedometer

@SinkTeam there you have the answer the xl is like 13ft long, flat bottom the hull speed will be faster than Jonny at 10 ft cat hull, but Jonny can go faster 18 plus with a 6.0 hp

Chris Caster remember each boat and motor are different. The amount of weight and gear you have on the boat/kayak will have an effect on speed! If I strip down my kayak to only have the motor I could easy do the same speed your doing..lol!

Kayak Q yeah but mine is a 50kg dry weight (tinny) as us Aussie’s call it, with all the gear. Fuel can, two rods, two anchors, 5kg chain and the tackle boxes. It would go easy 16mph stripped but may damage the engine due to the revs
