Just so timely by mentioning “ like visiting a haunted house” that’s fantastically put! 👺👻

The guy said it perfectly. He can now enjoy the thoughts because he knows what they are. I think that is what we must all do, because to witness thoughts is the first step, but to enjoy them no matter what shatters the illusion even more.

I so agree! My haunted house, my projected thoughts or even day dreams seen as a haunted house completely neutralises them! Brilliant!!

Like all questions and answers, it’s a beautiful answer to this particular listener. But like any answer, it’s only pertinent and relevant at a certain level. Thousands more who are listening, will be beyond this point, where we must return to life again and very much embrace the sense of person, albeit illusory.

As an artist and movie freak there’s something about this two shots that is so beautiful. The light, the colors, the composition.. And of course the conversation itself. I didn’t think Rupert’s team would be good at that too 😂 Amazed

Such a great analogy: seeing the states, thoughts and feelings we wish to push away or criticize as actors in a haunted house.

My art teacher used to call this type of experience the "inner editor." I tend to call it "the shoulds." In the past, the "shoulds" have brought me to a situation where I was just unable to move. I remember standing in front of my closet one morning going through this. I was trying to choose something to wear, and I was shoulding myself with "well, I should wear this since it was a gift, but I shouldn't wear it 'cause it makes me look too conventional. And I shouldn't be thinking this way 'cause it's not very spiritual, and I shouldn't be basing my choices on what others think, etc., etc." Finally I just decided to choose SOMETHING .... anything ... and go from there. For me, it came down to not what I wanted but what I thought i "should" want based on the opinions of others. To me, the ego keeps us from walking out into traffic. It's a useful tool. But it has an off button. HAHA!

I really enjoy listening to videos about these topics. After listening to this today, I'm left to wonder how are we supposed to be and if the mind can be associated to what we call ego (I think you use the terms "separate self" - not sure if it's the same)... 🙏🏻

Rupert has said there is actually in reality no such thing as thoughts, just the activity of thinking. So ego and all that stuff that goes with it is just all made up.

How we can know our true nature? The starting point of our exploring must be the clear recognizing, - My knowledge about myself isn't true, and that's why they are false. These separation can help us to find our true nature, because I know exactly (like Socrates) every knowledge about myself is false. The next step of the exploring of our true nature can become a very unpleasent experience or revelation, because according to our method our true nature is a directly contrary to the all complex of opinions about myself, - I am not clever but stupid, not courage man but coward and so on.

THE SOUL SHOULD NOT BE IDENTIFIED WITH MIND, BODY AND 5 SENSORY PERCEPTIONS. WHEN YOU IDENTIFY THEM, THAT IS NOT SOUL, IT IS STILL MIND.. SOULS OR SPIRITS ARE SOUNDS OR WORDS RELATED, LOVE, INTUITION, BLISS, MIND IS ENERGIES

Consciousness can never truly understand or experience its opposite and separate self that is unconsciousness. Consciousness may dream of nothing, but it can never be nothing. Therefore, consciousness simply cannot know and be all things through its own experience. If consciousness cannot be all things, it cannot be infinite.
