Lions have been my team my whole life, but have family that are die-hard Rams fans, so I've always had a soft spot for them (plus the classic unis and helmets are FIRE, lol). I watched Dickerson dominate, and I loved me some Jim Everett throwing to Henry Ellard and Flipper Anderson. Kurt Warner was my spirit animal (drafted him with the last pick in my 1999 fantasy draft, sat him the first week and then rode him to a title in my second-ever season playing, lol). And of course, Stafford is now a Ram, and I love that man for all he did in Detroit. Welcome to Lions fandom, brother, it's a good place to be right now. Nothing but good vibes and love.

The greater NFL audience still doesn't understand the details and nuance of what is being constructed in Detroit. The NFL itself does (see the opening day matchup against KC that we WON), the league itself does (see the coaches and players who fawn over the Lions culture, see the free agents who signed seconds after the Lions called with interest), and most importantly, the LIONS know what they are doing and where they are going. So natural. Nothing forced. Zero bad vibes. Notice how Cam Sutton's arrest for domestic battery isn't even a thing... Five years ago that would have been "same old Lions". This time, the Lions cut the guy, likely will get all the money back to spend on someone else - and zero negative press about the team itself.

I just want to express my deepest gratitude to you, Chris, and Alim, and Kyle and everyone involved with your podcast (and others like it). One of the true blessings us hardcore football fans have received in the last decade is the ability for you in the NFL podosphere to approach and talk with players on a real level. No pressers, no media, no BS, just two football guys talking about real shit and giving all of us (LFG LIONS) fans more insight into the players and the team than we ever could have gotten even 15-20 years ago. Getting the chance to hear my favorite team's players talk real to former players and podcasters and realizing that what Dan and Brad are doing is 100% legitimate and genuine in the process has this 35+ year Lions fan on the edge of tears. This team finally turned around, and as an added bonus they did it with all the kinds of people I put around myself in life. Thanks for your time and work, Chris.

Even better? The mistake he did make - calling the timeout after running the ball with a minute to go on the goalline, he came straight out and admitted he messed up to everyone. Straight shooter. He made that mistake, and he owned it. He's not usally reckless, he's not usually overaggressive - and when he actually was, he owned it. He will never make that mistake again, and now I trust him more than ever.

The amount of "good on good" practice that will be going on in the trenches in Allen Park absolutely matters. @desert_sky_guy10 ай бұрын
@@ceomikenoble Bro, I'm honestly not sure that they extend Goff this offseason. They gave Hooker a valuable roster spot, not just for the end of the season but into the playoffs. This guy is absolutely 100% someone they love, and McNeill chuckling while giving a genuine response about what he thinks when he watches Hendon throw just pulls the curtains wide open. Let me really be 100% frank with how far I think this rabbit hole might go - I believe there is a genuine chance that Goff's comments about his contract: "it's not up to me", might be him also knowing that he needs to keep getting better if he doesn't want to get Alex Smith'd by Hendon Hooker. I think that Brad and Dan are so realistic and real that they might have already told Goff that Hooker is going to be competing for his job and doing so at a salary in the 10s of Ms less than what Goff makes now and even less if they were to extend him. I think that there's a real chance that Goff must win a competition starting NOW against Hooker to win his huge contract, and that Hendon is champing at the bit to take that job. Goff must morph into the elite top tier of QBs (he's only a tick away, though) to keep this job. What a crazy, yet humane way to prod and push two men to be the absolute best and most efficient they can be, right? What I'm suggesting is a lot of speculation based on what I've seen since they drafted the kid, but just stop and think about it. Brad Holmes traded up in the third round of the draft - a round where starters and stars are expected to develop over time. Brad and Dan are grit and love and team and unity - but first and foremost they are about winning. One of the most understated aspects of what Brad and Dan do is that they create competition and they strive to have players that go against each other every day "good on good". Sure, they're "players" coaches. They're real, transparent to a level most people in their positions are not. But the fire is in them. They aren't trying to job Jared Goff, but they drafted Hooker because his ceiling is clearly beyond what Goff offers simply on athleticism and arm strength alone. And they're not going to feel bad putting those two in a cage and letting the best man win.
@desert_sky_guy10 ай бұрын
@@ceomikenoble And the last thought here is that maybe they are so transparent in that locker room that everyone sees and knows that Hendon is the future - and so everyone this year is going to be 100% behind Goff to win that title and stave the kid off. ULTIMATE MOTIVATION.
