It depends on the point of view. Horror game mostly placed player as the main character and the victim. And in horror film, the main character and victim is the actors, not the viewers. The same thing with the difference of Netori and Netorare, it is on the PoV.

Certainly being forced to directly interact with the horror raises tensions, but that should also depend on the game. If you can shoot your way out of it, then it's less scary imo. Meanwhile if you get too invested in the horror movie it really isnt much different from being in the situation yourself. It all depends on people's immersion levels.

They really misuse the term survival horror. If you can shoot your way out of trouble then its just shooter with horror theme like a Halloween sticker. Real survival horror gives you little to no option (You can barely push back an Amnesia monster with a chair) or straight up take away your option (Nun Massacre dont let you pause game with inventory screen and the nun can run in vents)
