Aнd there is rationing of the water due to limited water supply? And what exactly is she going to do living in a village with 5 grannies left there? I am Brazilian and during my youth I was dreaming about moving to "a better country'. Today in my 40s, having visited many "better countries", I realize that, even being a "bad" country, living here is not so bad. The sad true is that it is not because Brazil has improved a lot, but the 'better' countries have gone downhill. At least here, if you have qualification for a job with high demand, you can enjoy a good life in terms of earning/costs balance, plus you can make an appointment to good (private) doctors to the next week (usually). All the best in Bulgaria!

I have been looking at Bulgaria as a possible location to move to for some time now. I've visited: the first time only for a few days in 2019, then for 5 weeks in 2021 (amid COVID), when I traveled across a wide swath of the country, staying in Sofia, Plovdiv, Stara Zagora, Veliko Tarnovo and Varna a week each. Like you, the low cost of living is a big attraction, as well as the abundance of culture. I still remember the first time I visited Sofia: from the imposing Stalinist style architecture of the Largo, to the Roman ruins of Serdika, to the neo-Byzantine churches like Sveta Nedelya and Alexander Nevsky, to Ottoman mosques and Jewish synagogues all within a 10-min walk from one another. And the rest of the country is equally enthralling, both in natural and historical beauty.

@@Burevestnik9M730 - OK, so most normal people, when comparing the cost of living between two different countries, compare common things, such as the price of rent or even the price of a meal at McDonald's. But not you. Nooooooo ... I've never heard of Merrel shoes, so I have no idea if $75 is good, bad, or indifferent. Were they on clearance? And soy sauce? Your comment definitely reads as if you've been sampling some fermented sauce, though soy wasn't the first thing that came to mind. According to the website Living Cost, a fast food meal, equivalent to McDonald's, averages around $7.56 (Canadian dollars) in Bulgaria and around $10.60 in Canada. A 3-bedroom apartment in a major downtown city (80 m^2 or 860 ft^2) averages $678 in Bulgaria and $2160 in Canada. While your beloved soy sauce didn't make the cut, a mid-priced 750 ml bottle of wine averages $6.81 in Bulgaria and $13.50 in Canada. A half litre of beer (16 fl oz) averages $1.01 in Bulgaria and $2.80 in Canada. Happy now?

As soon as I saw your video discussing potential requirements I knew you were secretly talking about Bulgaria, it was clear as it really does perfectly fit your specific needs. We welcome you to our lovely country, I can't wait for the moving arc and hope you love it as much as I think you will.

I realise I left Ireland 35 years ago and didn't tell the state I was leaving. Now that would seem like a peculiar thing to do for a Irish person. I have now put Bulgaria on my possible retirement plan and will visit soon.

In the northeast in Bulgaria pretty much every town/village has British retirees. The roads are good, international airport nearby, seaside, resorts, yet you can find cheap houses in the towns around.

Welcome, Alina! I'm sure you will like it here. Bureaucracy is slow and unnerving, so please bear with them. I totally agree with all the things you said and I am sure you'll have a great time. Nature is beautiful if you like spending time outside! Sooo enjoy! 🫶

What I've learned with age and maturity is that listening to my intuition/gut feelings usually doesn't steer me wrong. The tricky part is just understanding what your intuition is trying to tell you.

Most important thing that you didn't mention is the personal security and low rates of crime. Bulgaria is really calm. Wish you all the best. You are welcome here and I am happy that you chose Bulgaria.

I was very recently in Sofia and was blown away by how good the Metro is. As long as you are within walking distance of one of the stations, you never have to worry about any other kind of transport to the airport, nor the bus/train station. Also to note, you don't need to purchase those subway tickets you showed, you can just swipe your card at the little gates and they will charge you 1,60 BGN automatically. :)

Yeah the public transit is honestly fantastic there! We have way more issues here in Toronto lol

Добре дошла :) Makes me proud you choose Bulgaria of all places and I hope you're happy with that choice. It's not perfect, but I'm sure you've taken almost everything (important to you) into account. I actually started watching you right when you were in Bulgaria 4ish (?) years ago as you popped in my KZbin feed and been a fan of your content ever since. I really do hope you have a good experience in here. My judgement of life in Sofia can be harsh as a local, same as when you were talking about Toronto, it's a lot easier to critique when you lived here long enough, but looking objectively it's a great and a very safe place, especially if you have a good salary. You'll surely meet some rude jerks along the way, I especially sometimes have a hard time with how uncooperative the people can be, but my only advice as local is to remember that not everyone is like that. Do you have friends in Sofia or anybody local helping you with the move? If you need any help or information, don't be afraid to ask.

Thank you so much, very kind of you to say! Yes, I expect there will be some bumps along the way but I think the fact that I will only be there about half the year will make the transition easier for me. Right now I do know a few friends in Sofia, but if you ever see me on the street, please come say hi!
