I also like the older radios. I had a Yaesu FT-890, which I sold for about twenty years ago. It was in mint condition and open for 11 meters. I really regret I sold it!

There was one of those Alinco radios for sale in a computer shop a couple of years ago and I wish I had bought it. They were giving it a guarantee as well! Still love my 450D though.

Hi John. Yeah i get where your coming from and i agree it is double standards. Just my personal view really. I think Ham radio should be listen only without a licence. Some people have pirated on Ham for years without causing issues. Just not for me.

@@CB-RADIO-UK hi 👋 Not getting at you Fred. And I agree. Listen only. But then the Hams who declare that we have to follow the rules, don’t you cbers break the law and come on our frequencies then go on 27 megs with extra power and none cert rigs! If challenged they say that’s 👌 ok for them to do!?!? Anyway happy radio 📻

Why do you not take your foundation class Amateur Licence right now working 15 Meters, 12 meters and 10 Meters band with 10 PEP work the world? A couple weeks ago a mobile set up 1/4 wave vertical in my car static mobile with Ranger 2950 Dx with power 25 watts P.E.P North America and South America all above board I am a licence Radio Amateur fully legal if going to use CB radio only type of approval CB radio please did not modify Amateur Radio Transceiver as you said in your video if the chance getting a court if guilty you lose your radio and get a criminal record if found converted! in long term go and do you amateur radio Exam Back in the '80s I did start with CB Radio then got my Amateur Radio licence in S W Cumbria no active on legal CB Bands my amateur Radio can receive right across 11-meter band back the early day the 11 meters band allocated to Radio amateur use

Fred, have you ever checked the SWR with your A 99 ON 10, 12, 15 OR 17 METERS? Also, don't forget when the weather gets better to test that 18 meter pole and DX Commander version of the Skymaster, (M400 Starduster ) Cal has built, I suggested you and Him should get together. I suspect at 60 ft or 18 meters it would be a winner for both ground wave (local) and DX (skip)? My home is being replaced or torn down and rebuilt plus I have some valves that are to be replaced in my Heart, but I intend to buy that 18 meter pole and configure it with the 10-12, 17or 15 meters at the top and 20-40 below that when all this is finished? AlsoI have an Alinco tuner that would work well with the DX77 in storage that I've thought of sending to you.

Hi. Ive never pressed the key on any band other than 11m. Did speak to Cal recently to talk about an on air meeting but we are around 150 miles apart so would need very very good conditions.
@americaswayout4489
@americaswayout4489 Жыл бұрын
@@CB-RADIO-UK I had encouraged Cal, to get up with you to test the 18 meter pole built with a STARDUSTER style wire antenna on the top, basically a 102 in up in the middle with ground radials doubling as guy wires. I believe 60 feet should give good local range plus excellant take off angle for DX or skip, what do you think abouut a 60 foot height?

watched many of your videos but im a Massive newbie to CB. any advice for a complete newbie? bought a thunderpole silver rod high gain with a thunderpole t2000. i throw the big springy mag mount on the car, 1 mile up the road and get loads of chatter. silver rod im getting nothing. swr checked 1.4 - 1.5. and recommended settings for SQL and RF gain or is it just trial & error? thanks
@CB-RADIO-UK
@CB-RADIO-UK Жыл бұрын
Hi Ben. Its odd you are getting signals in the car and not on the homebased antenna. Your SWR is fine at 1.5. Turn the squelch right off and the RF gain to max. Try to get the silver rod up as high as you can. Your T2000 is a fine radio and can receive all the euro channels so have a listen on them on both AM and FM. You should hear people this time of year esp. If still nothing then double check your coax and plugs although any issue there should show up with a high SWR. Good luck.

@@CB-RADIO-UK Looking forward to the next SDR video. Could i ask when using your Antron 99 what is conected to it, is it just the coax straight to your cb's or do you have anything going to a radial or earth rod?
@CB-RADIO-UK
@CB-RADIO-UK Жыл бұрын
Hi. I have a negative earth grid system on the house so sinking a earth rod could be dangerous. In theory earthing the pole may help with static noise. Lots of debate on line about the subject.

Hi Fred, I'm a new subscriber and new to cb radio, I bought a cre 8900 with a sirio ml 145 for my car, I'm wanting a home antena to go on my gable end or chimney stack as I live in dip. What antena would you recommend?? My mate said the antron a99?? TIA Steven
@CB-RADIO-UK
@CB-RADIO-UK Жыл бұрын
Hi Steven. The Antron is a very tough antenna and nine has seen plenty of storms. Its also a little shorter than some others. People like the Gainmaster as it performs well but its bigger. Also the Sirio 2016 is very popular. Finally the good old Silver Rod works very well and great value at around £35. Did make a video a while back on the subject. kzbin.info/www/bejne/rJ7ap3VoaaqLkKs

@CB-RADIO-UK
@CB-RADIO-UK Жыл бұрын
I think there is a big difference. Most high power linear amplifier are terrible for putting out lots of distortion and splatter. At least a HF radio has a cleaner signal and you can turn the power right down.
New multimode CB RADIO or used HF gear? Alinco DX-77.
