My OBGYN was on vacation when my placenta abrupted. I was very happy with the Hospitalist that night. I absolutely loved her! She was better than my OBGYN.

I had the BEST OBGYN during my pregnancy. At my postpartum visit he told me he was leaving to become a hospitalist, just like you. He really needed the work-life balance. While I’m selfishly so sad to have lost him as my personal doctor, it was a great choice for him and I’m sure it will be for you too.

I am an MS4 applying to OBGYN this ERAS season... Thank you so much for this vid! I have been really interested in becoming a hospitalist but a lot of our residents either go into fellowship or private practice. Its nice to hear that you have a better work-life balance :)

I have a friend who's a hospitalist (not OBGYN though) and this gives me a much better idea of the difference between that and other types of doctors. She has a really good work schedule where she works 12 hours a day for 7 days, and then gets the next 7 days off, and repeat. It honestly feels like the ideal schedule for anyone, haha!

I loved this video! I am a premed who is very invested in the idea of work life balance specifically in the OBGYN field. Is it possible to work part time and what is that like?

What’s interesting is that they have these downtime for pilots. Because they need them well rested as they are flying a plane full of passengers. But doctors and people in the medical field should ALSo have these because their patients lives are literally in their hands. And they need not be burned out or having stayed up for 24 hours to treat patients. I don’t know why that doesn’t make sense.

Hi Ali! Curious to know if you’re considered a FT employee doing the 6 days a month and if you still qualify for health insurance? Love your videos!

Still navigating this as I’ve only worked as a OBGYN hospitalist for a month. I think eventually I’ll miss the bond and relationships formed but you also develop a new bond with these patients and your coworkers. Let’s see how I feel after a year!

Have you ever seen APRN Nurse Midwives working 24 hour type shifts in a team with OBGYNs in a Hospital setting?

Honestly, I just came out of the ER October 19 and they said that they cannot totally exclude that I have a ectopic pregnancy, but I am having pain in my left side not going away felt like pinching, but it just makes me feel uncomfortable to sit down or even use the restroom. Do you think that is an ectopic pregnancy?

No, they wouldn't to my knowledge be able to assist with anything like that. CNMs are great, but they're only qualified to take care of low risk, vaginal deliveries. They aren't surgeons like OBs are.

The caring doctors are leaving, so the "special" patients just get hurt and violated because they have no caring doctors to do routine exams. I'm currently have a very caring doctor, but I fear she'll leave any time now, and I'll suffer sexual assault like the last doctor I had. Those situations scar your life for years.

They leave because those with real empathy often just get too overwhelmed to be able to handle it any more given all the institutional and personal pressures and corruption in medicine. Working around and with far too many highly protected and privileged sociopaths and seeing all the harm (and sometimes death!) they cause patients without legal accountability, and being mostly not able to change it without loosing their jobs or worse becomes draining & exhausting... It's definitely not something I think I could handle, especially not as someone with more then one relitive killed in part by incompetent and/or malicious doctors and other healthcare staff! 😰😡 while not all hospitals or other healthcare facilities are necessarily like this just about any large one (and I'm sure plenty of the smaller ones as well) are. Be well and take care! 🙏

Imagine going through twelve years of school and training and becoming what you’ve always dreamed of and actively searching then finding a job where you only have to work six days a month. Complaining about the hours you do have to work during those six whole days and your big thrill in all of it is that you’ll have more time for social media. Say you’re a millennial without saying you’re a millennial will ya?
