Wonderful! I've watched a lot of tutorials and tried a lot of tutorials. And there's a difference. Many times you'll see hundreds of comments praising a video without actually following the instructions of the video, which end up being rubbish. This video was clear; simple enough for someone who's never ever made a sleeve. I used this sleeve tutorial to make a perfect bishop sleeve!

I am getting a bit creative. I am adding a sleeve to a sleeveless swing top. I drew a total blank on how to draft the sleeve. I searched your channel, found this video and downloaded the basic sleeve block. Shazam! But, I still feel like I need my hand held. So, I am going to watch how to sew a t-shirt while I draft this. Thanks for being a wonderful sewing friend.

Oh, I think I missed this comment somehow... about adding a sleeve to a sleeveless top... a lot of times the width of the strap isn't the "normal" width as of the shoulder seam for a sleeved garment, so when drafting a sleeve for the sleeveless top you will probably need to add a bit of extra height to the top of the sleeve - at least that's how I see it in my head... here's a video about 5 different sleeves, including a bishop sleeve, and there is also a reference sheet for this video on google drive :) - kzbin.info/www/bejne/gqHGf3iVmdFjopo

Hello, hello! Yes, that is one of the measurements that can be tricky between what we "think" is the right shoulder width and what actually is, especially that it is hard to determine sometimes where the arm start and shoulder ends, same with shoulder slope - another measurement that can be tricky. But I am glad you're moving forward!

This is fantastic! Even though my English is not 100% and we take mm/cm/m instead of inches here, your video is easy to follow. I do have a question for you. 5/8 inches = 1.5875 centimeters. Does it matter whether you charge one mm more or less? Or would you rather calculate up or down? Not sure if this will affect the fit. Thank you very much for all your expertise and time you shared with us!👏 🙂

Maria, hi! I actually do most of my drafting in cm's (it is so much easier to do the math, as I am European myself) but do vids in inches, as I live in USA. So... there will be a tad bit of a difference, between 150 mm and 158mm, but I just took in between, 155mm, so between 1.5cm and 1.6cm. Hope this helps!
@mariav.48323 жыл бұрын
@@ThoughtfulCreativity Hi Alisa, thanks for your reply. After watching your video I saw that your ruler was also in cm.😊 And from a previous conversation I know that you are also from Europe. I don't find inches easy, but your tip helped me a lot! Big thanks for everything!! 😘

A lot of rulers have inch measurements on the bottom. I found it easier to do my measurements in cm and flip my ruler when you have to add a certain amount. Imperial is a very janky system of measurement, but it'll do for little things like this

@ThoughtfulCreativity2 жыл бұрын
Marina, hello there! Are you comparing the bicep line that you drafted with the armhole measurement? You have to compare the completed sleeve curve to the armhole measurement - as that is what is sewn into the armhole. The straight line will always measure less than a curve.

Hello, This is a very good video , I wonder when I cut , how do place the printed fabric, wrong side up. ?
@sebbiwohli Жыл бұрын
Very well made video. I do have a question though, because I don't really understand how your extra length on the sleeve pattern is able to be sewed on the torso part which is shorter. So you marked the spot in the middle on top and then the two marks on each side, one on the front and one on the back part, but as you have mentioned, the curve is longer on the sleeve pattern than the round opening in the torso part for the sleeve is. How does that work without getting the fabric to get sort of overlap at some part?
@jonnaborosky88363 жыл бұрын
You can ease sleeves in without bubbles with a lot more ease and fabric. Seems to me that when making the sleeve pattern, the side seam of the bodice front and back need to be touching all the way down, not just at the top...so that the sleeve will fit the bodice armhole when seam, with seam allowance.
@thaliacrafts407 Жыл бұрын
Maybe its me, but its like you say to draw your biceps width, then "you may wonder why we added 1 inch to your wrist circumference" and then "the line were drawing for the upper arm is the same line we drew before". I'm so confused. Am I misunderstanding something?
@chfman49127 ай бұрын
Not just you. That’s exactly what she said. Also she took the bicep measurement. Added two inches to it. Drew the line. Then subtracted four total inches from it. Then said check if that goes your ‘wrist enough room. Well sure my wrist but that’s now two inches smaller than my bicep so it def won’t work for a sleeve since I won’t be able to get my arm into it. Doesn’t make any sense.
@chfman49127 ай бұрын
Also why did she have us draw the first line when it’s not used and she started over with a clean piece of paper? I wasted a perfectly good sheet of pattern paper. This tutorial is bogus.

Watch video again and pay attention, everything is explained - at 10 minutes in the video we go over why we decrease the length of the sleeve.

I did watch again. I understand now increase and decrease was for movement of the sleeve and to be fitted properly into bodice sleeve space. You showed that arm has to move freely. I learn by mistakes. I'm a beginner.
