That is such cute fabric for a skirt for your toddler!! She’s going to love it. When I make things like that for my grandchildren I usually go to Michael’s and get a t-shirt that matches the skirt or pants or shorts and put a little patch on the shirt to match. In this case I would cut out a donut and appliqué it to the t-shirt!! Such a cute skirt and a great video - thank you!

What a wonderful tutorial! You explain and show everything so clearly 👏. I'm completely new to sewing and everyone says to not immediately start by trying to make clothing, but to do something simple first. Well, I think your tutorial might actually be perfect for a complete beginner and it's... a wonderful piece of clothing. 😊 I'm gonna try it, thanks so much!

Hi there 👋 Can l put any type of waistband on this skirt ? I have a machine sitting at home and from wtching your video I just want to start sewing 😄
@annarodriguez9868 Жыл бұрын
@@tiinywa6315 If you want a more fitted waistband you will have to add a zipper to the skirt seam, gather the fabric onto the waistband and add a buttonhole or hook for closure. It's not hard, but takes a little more work. Get that sewing machine out and have fun learning something new!

I make tons of play skirts for the dress up box for my daughter's PreK class. I use remnants and fancy used clothes from thrift stores. I have even repurposed lace curtains. ( all gently used fabrics) For cutting cottons I use the rip method to get straight of grain.... much faster. For fancy fabrics I use rotary cutter and quilting ruler. I love this style of garment sewing because it is fast and easy. Love your serger hints because I just got one and am learning to use it. Thanks for your videos I can see they will help me in the future.
@steffwyatt1862 Жыл бұрын
That's great! I normally gather the fabric first and add a waistband. This is a much simpler alternative! I also do the hack at the end, sewing across the elastic to stop it twisting! I made it up but you also do it! I bet thousands of people do it, because it just works!

Very helpful the tip about of much of width we need for the waist and the elastic final stiches was very helpful.. since the other day I attend to a gather skirt .. it came out very square on waist it did not gather much.. I was very disappointed. And it was left in much closet ... These two tips you now mentioned for sure will help me ... Thank you Alisa 👍😍🧵😊🙋🏻♀️

Yes, ma'am! She does - she is currently into dress up stage (toddlers, you know how it is....) and with pants she sometimes ends up with two legs in one pant leg, so... skirts are easier, he he ;) great scrap buster too, if sewn for little ones.

Georgiana, you can - however that is the method that I would never use, as it really does not provide much of finishing of the edges, and with time it will unravel anyway. Hope this helps!
