Great instructional video for a beginner to skirts. I used this and your other pencil skirt video to create mine. It will be used as the base of my Halloween costume. I'm proud to say I even attempted my darts with the serger and it was a success!

Hi there, I love watching your video tutorials, today I made the pencil skirt but maxi length, it turned out perfectly and I don't have an overlocker just a basic sewing machine. Thankyou teacher, south Yorkshire England. Xx

Yes I too like your waistband drafting method. Am looking to make a stretch pencil skirt and so enjoy your tutorials! Actually I made an open front cardigan from this stretch fabric using your pattern drafting tutorial and have enough fabric left to make a shorter pencil skirt! My tip for sewing with knits is using a walking (or even feed) foot. I have an older machine with a few stretch stitches, but still find this foot makes a big difference in the end result of the seaming. So much better at keeping the fabrics from moving around and lessens the chance for the top layer to stretch out longer than the bottom layer. Thank you again for an easy to follow lesson - great for sewists of all skill levels.

Just love that you teach us how to make our own patterns. I've sewn a few garments now using my own pattern but I've never completed a projecy working with a purchased pattern. ALways overtakes me but making my own works lovely. Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge. I've learned SOOO much in such a short time from your clear instructions.

Great diy Alisa 😁. I sewed knits for years using only a sewing machine. Testing on scraps is definitely a must (wavy seams are the worst! 😑. I like a 1.5 wide, 1.6 length stitch for most seams, but a 3 or 3.5 wide, 1.6 long stitch to mimic a serger stitch. I also use an overcast stitch & foot to mimic a serger. Actually learning to use a serger has been life-changing. Oh, adjusting the pressure foot tension (using the black ball-thingy behind the foot) has been very helpful too :)

Do you know who has a tutorial on how to use the black thing on sewing machine foot? I saw one awhile back and totally forgot who filmed it.
@rikkib76364 жыл бұрын
@@noemir8262 I’m not sure, but I saw someone demonstrate by having the fabric under the pressure foot. While the pressure foot is up, push in the black button, keep holding it and lower the pressure foot onto the fabric. Hope that helps:)

Did you make the coverstitch with your serger ? How did you do that ? With how many treats ?
@noemir82624 жыл бұрын
I sometimes use a walking foot and/or lift the presser foot every few inches to let the fabric relax and reduce chance of puckering. I do that occasionally while using serger depending on fabric behavior.

Noemi, a VERY good tip! I do that on my serger too, sometimes, especially on the sharp curves!
