Hi, Alison, just finished my shawl. You suggested using the largest round loom to get a good size. Thank you for that. I used a Cindwood Loom--5/8", 54 pegs. I used 1 strand of Lion Brand Homespun, a boucle which was lovely. The finished shawl was a bit over six feet long with a drop of about 22" at the deepest point. I didn't do the crochet edge because I like the nubby look of the boucle. The finished product is beautiful. Thank you so much for this pattern. I'll be doing more of these.

I am new at looming, but I was becoming frustrated because I sometimes could not get my peg wrapped a second time. The first stitch on the peg was too tight. The only thing I could find about this was the comment that I was wrapping my yarn too tightly. But that was not the problem. Then I watched your video on how to knit this beautiful scarf. You made my day brighter when you repeated that the yarn must come back to front, back to front. And my problem was solved. Thank you so much. Jeanne AC

Awww I'm so chuffed this helped you. Lots of people like my tutorials because I repeat myself a lot hahah I do these as simple as I can. As I always need a simple way to learn things myself too. I know I don't do fancy stitches or always use the politically correct term for stitches, I do it as simple as possible and once someone either learns for the first time or becomes unstuck like yourself, then they can go on to learn the proper terminology for stitches etc. (I still don't use the correct terms I still say wrap it around the back of the peg. This is an ewrap stitch) for the plain and simple reason that's what beginners understand 1st. is the simplest explanation.

Thank you so much for this video. Being new to this, I really need your clear video and instructions and the great repeats! The shawl in the pix looked like a baby blanket chenille, but the one in the video--couldn't find the brand from the label. Perhaps Lion's Thick and Quick would work. BTW, this show is so lovely--I've changed my mind from what I was going to try to knit for my daughter for Christmas to this. Can't wait to get started (after I finish the blanket for new great-grandbaby). I have a Cindloom 5/8" 54 peg loom, and will probably go to about 48 pegs on it. Bless you for sharing and helping.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel7 жыл бұрын
haha funny you should say that as my daughter gave it back to me after her friend said it looked like she had a baby blanket wrapped around her. So I made her a purple one the same as the slouchy hat tutorial. The wool is chenille baby mix I dont have the label anymore. I got it in Alddi's in the UK. I would go the whole 51 so its a bit bigger as I found the 41 page loom good but the longer shaped one with 51 pegs even better. I ended up ripping the baby colored one out and making a weaved baby blanket with it. (see my weaving pen sticks tutorial) Thank you for watching I do try to keep it as simple as possible.

I made a similar shawl without double knitting every peg on a 42 peg loom, and it’s not as long as I want it to be. Does double knitting the pegs make it bigger or just fuller?
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel5 жыл бұрын
It will make it longer. If you want a bigger one buy the long set of looms from Hobbycraft if you are in the UK. That's the cheapest place for the full set of 4 round and 4 long looms (8.99) each est. I use the longest loom and you get lovely big all over shawls.

You can always use a small loom (blue one in the set, or even a round 12 peg flower loom) and loom around a border. Many tutorials for several types of borders. Crocheting is for some who are not able to hold a small hook for carpel Tunnel etc or just want all loom. Plain border using a small loom using 2 or 3 pegs is easy as you just go around your finished project. Can do Pico, scalloped edge, and more!!!

Crochet the edge keeps it neat. You could always try a few fringes and see how it looks. To be honest I didn't think of a fringe. Hi thanks for replying so fast. I have a line on my fathers side of the family that goes back to Scotland. I have never any of them. They are from Ayrshire, Paisley. Did I spell that right? I will try to check out your craft group later. :) Take care

Im not from that area and yes you did spell it right and im sorry i dont know anyone by name of Gemmill, have you tried online family tree searching
@jlee2948 жыл бұрын
Yes I work on ancestry.com and familysearch.org. :) It is fun to find out who you are. And where you came from. It is sobering to realize also that every one of us is lucky to be here. If someone in our family before us had not made it home from the wars they were in, we would not be here. In my case, that includes my 4th great grandfather, and my grandfather on my mothers side. If he died in the war my mom wouldn't be here and if great grandfather had died my father wouldn't have been here. I know that sounds negative, talking of wars. On the lighter side, when I became addicted to genealogy I was able to find half brothers and sisters that I didn't know I had. Now we talk, visit, and are on Facebook together. :) THAT is a HAPPY thing. Ok sorry for writing a book. I look forward to watching more of your videos. Take care :)

Once you've gone around the whole loom, how many more rows back and forth do you do till you do the reverse ?
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel6 жыл бұрын
if I remember correctly I didn't i just worked my way reducing to keep it in a triangle shape ( or whatever two triangles are called when put back to back ) Just remember you either knit the first and last stitch or miss is so your scarf is not lopsided if you want it slightly bigger then knit it all you will have to do is neaten the edge with a simple single crochet stitch all around it
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel6 жыл бұрын
Just remember you knit the first and last stitch on every row so your scarf is not lopsided ( I made a mistake of saying to miss it as we want a neat edge at beginning of each row. some people forgot and there's was lopsided.

Okay I am about to decrease and I'm a little confused by your video on the last increase when you knit back did you double knit that increase stitch then do the decrease then go back and double knit the last stitch again? I think that is what is confusing another commenter as well.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel7 жыл бұрын
No it's my fault I forgot to double knit the 1st stitch on the increase. I did it on the tutorial the first time but didn't do it the next time. but when I stopped videoing it I did knit the 1st stitch twice. It is entirely my fault and I do wish I had continued the video a while longer. It was my sister who pointed it out to me today.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel7 жыл бұрын
I just think so many people have knitted the first and last stitch twice each way and didn't notice the 1st stitch only being knitted twice the first time or they skipped along and like me didn't see the error. But if you don't knit the first stitch twice on the way to decrease don't knit the decrease side twice just do it once. I do apologise for this error.

Mine is not as long as yours, is it because of the yarn i am using? It is 109 yards/100m, and it is bulky #5.

It could be Ann did you knit each stitch twice??
@anntaylor77818 жыл бұрын
yes i did knit each stitch twice. Each ball of yarn is 100g that i am using. how many pegs did you use? Mine is 40 pegs.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel8 жыл бұрын
I used the biggest loom This is only wound around my daughters neck once it not a huge shawl, My largest is 41 pegs. If you want it longer you could knit 2 rows between casting on. The pattern is Cast on one stitch at the right hand side knit to the left cast on a stitch and knit back to the right. You could change it and add in knit 2 rows then repeat the cast on and knit two rows etc. You will probably have to definitely crochet all around the edge to neaten it off once it is finished. The only other way is to buy a set of the long looms which have more pegs they are the same price in hobbycraft as the round set. £8 in the UK this id defiantly the cheapest place to buy them that I have seen.
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel8 жыл бұрын
My friend told me she did hers in super chunky wool and it came out bigger than mine. but not much wider as she too used the 41 peg loom and she is off to buy the long set at her local hobbycraft.

Hi I'm hoping someone can clarify something; when u say knit the first and last pegs twice (double ewrap I think it's called? I'm new to loom knitting) do u mean knit the last peg of the row twice and then twice more as it becomes the first leg of the next row? Or just knit the first/last pegs twice and move to the next peg so that each row (first and last peg) would be one wrap and knit? (I guess that could also be ending on last peg with double ewrap and slipping it for the next row as it becomes the first peg of the row right ?) sorry for the long question just trying to clarify since I'd love to make the pattern just don't want to mess it up! Thanks in advance.
@dylanhynes10896 жыл бұрын
Sorry if this is confusing pretty much just want to know if the first peg u start with (which is last peg when u work back) should be wrapped twice before going into the next row or 4 times (2 double ewrap?) or 2 times (1 double ewrap?) and also when u increase u go and increase a peg then work back then increase another peg and work back correct? I thought it looked like u increased worked back then knit to the increase without adding another(increase/peg) just knit the increase/peg from the previous row twice then worked back ? Sorry if this is hard to understand but any help is appreciated
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel6 жыл бұрын
you knit the 1st peg work along to the end knit the last peg then knit it again on the way back. I say miss the 1st peg for an even edge but on this pattern if you do that it can be lopsided. so just knit all the pages then if you crochet do a simple chain around the edge of the scarf when finished or add a fringe. it looks amazing with a fringe. I hope this helps clarify it.
@dylanhynes10896 жыл бұрын
Ok so don't skip the first peg just knit first and last peg for each row as normal. Thanks so much I really love the design by the way, can't wait to get started now! I was worried I'd have to figure it out myself or wait for someone to respond but now I can get right to it! Much appreciation. Thanks. :)

One more question sorry; when you add the third peg at the beginning (increase) you added it then worked back to the first peg and worked back to the third peg without adding the 4th (without increasing any peg) is there a reason for that? Or should I just add the fourth peg on that round ?

What is the finished size??
@AlisonRussellsCrochetChannel8 жыл бұрын
Hi Brenda it depends on the wool used, I didn't measure mine and i have given it away as a gift. You can get much bigger shawls if you use the long looms and use the same method I did.

I wish you had used lighter color yarn when you made that it would have been easier to see how you did it.lighter color yarn shows up better.I wish you had used the same color yarn as the one made.

Alison Russell's Craft Channel Hi Alison. I am still madly (compulsively, insanely...) looming away! I wanted to ask if you ever made your 10 stitch blanket (I think that's what it's called) video? I can't seem to find it. Hope all is well with you! Patty

Deborah Shaw Darn! I looked again but no luck. Have fun making the shawl! I'm making scarves and hats for donation, playing around with different stitches. It's great fun. Happy looming!

I reinvented the 10 stitich myself, with a stitch i made up and no curling and no purling....pretty excited.
