Best thing about my guy telling his life story is that he REALLY is re-enacting every moment without even knowing what it look like to the audience. When I was in the county, I knew I wasn't going to be there long. I made sure I didn't work up a sweat the whole time I was there so I wouldn't have a "shower experience"!

The DI's used to tell us don't go down with possible heat exhaustion/stroke. So I took heed to it. The first time someone went down (a guy of course), they bent him over just like Ali demonstrated. Dude was tooted up as the corpsman was trying to get his core temperature. After dousing him with ice in a kiddie pool, we never saw him again. Drinking water was never an issue again. None of the ladies from my platoon went down after seeing that. He was a constant reminder of they don't care where you are at when you drop.

Back during my senior year I served weekends in county. Every Sunday before release time I’d take a shower. The full timers just looked at me funny and didn’t say anything until the third time, which was “ MAN can’t you wait until you get home to do that, we actually have to use that shower”. I laughed and said “I live in a camper which only has a five gallon water heater dude. This is the only good hot shower I get all week damn it.”

Thats why ya gotta have money on your account and respect from the laundry crew. I always paid the laundry man so I would have brand new underwear and new prison uniforms. I stayed creased up and clean. And my haircut was always looking like i got it cut from a barber in the free world. The barbers don’t give street haircuts to everybody, but I always had a sharp lineup and a sharp cut goatee
