First--I followed your instructions for this hair mask and I'm thrilled with the results! Thank you so much! Second--I come from a "rice at every meal" part of the world, so the idea of throwing out the leftover rice felt wrong. I cooked mine with a teaspoon each of olive oil and salt (knowing that if any oil remained in the slurry, it would nurture my hair) and once I removed the liquid to use in my hair, I saved the gloppy rice. I mixed it with coconut milk, water, ginger, cinnamon, and sugar, blended it, froze it in little cups, and made a delicious dessert out of it. (I posted the instructions on a thread by itself in hopes other people could find it and save their rice too! I hope you don't mind.) Thanks again for sharing your rice treatment method!

So, I've done this twice over a period of two weeks, and my hair is very happy. Lots of bounce and shine! I have fine, low porosity, 3a-3c curls that are growing out after decades of hair dye, heat styling, and keratin treatments. I combined the rice water with a dollop of moisturizing hair mask, just as you show, and it is nothing short of an amazing treatment! Thank you!

Gloppy rice leftovers? Make ice pops that beckon the tropics! How to: Smoosh the rice it into a homogeneous paste. Add a tiny bit of salt. Then, add coconut milk (if you started with 1 cup of rice as per Alyssa's instructions, 1 cup of coconut milk would be perfect), 1 cup water, and to taste, any combination of powdered ginger, cinnamon, and sugar. If you're not a fan of grainy textures, run the flavored rice-coconut mix in the blender until it's completely smooth. Pour the mix into small plastic cups, insert a popsicle stick, and freeze it. Enjoy a sweet, icy treat that will transport you to your favorite tropical beach!

Your curls are incredible! I think I'm in moisture overload. Loose almost straight curls. Super soft hair. However, my hair has been ultra sensitive to protein in the past (even a tiny bit in the mousse I love would turn it to straw). I'm wondering if rice water is milder than the proteins typically found in hair products. What's your best guess? I'm afraid of crispy hair, but at the moment I'm even more frustrated with limp, bland hair. Tawanda! (Old movie reference--lol). Definitely trying this. One other question, after you rinsed the rice water out, did you shampoo/cowash again or go straight to conditioner then stylers? Thank you!!

Is there anything I should know about curly hair when using color?
@alissaevelyn5 жыл бұрын
Taralya Mcdonough I’m afraid I don’t know much about colouring curls, but I can tell you what I would do - if you want to go lighter, I would do just highlights and make sure to go to a really specialised person who knows how to pre-treat your hair etc. Also know that chemical damage could change the curls you have. But if you want to go darker then you could use henna - it also brings out the shine to your hair. It’s totally natural and actually makes the hair healthier so will encourage the curls. You can only do browns and reds with henna though.

Thanks the henna might do the trick, thanks!

I have very fine hair and barely-there waves. After I did the rice treatment, my hair felt and looked amazing. Since I loved the increased curl definition it gave me, I want to try it again in a month, but plan to rinse it out with warmer water, skip the leave-in conditioner, and go straight to gel. I think that'd be better for my hair, which is not particularly dry or damaged to begin with.
