Id like yo see you have some seniors hit balls with the higher loft clubs and maybe 80 to 90 mph clubhead speed and perhaps a regular and senior shaft for comparison. Theres allot of us thatweould benifit from a video like that.

I have a flat swing taught to me over 60 years ago and still works for me. I am short and was taught by the same man who taught Patti Berg who was also short. 15 years ago I had an 8 degree Cobra stiff shaft that I could hit 220-230. Now in my 80's I use a 7.5 Cleveland driver senior shaft and recently picked up the Sim2 8 degree with a regular shaft and am hitting it a little farther. The one fact that cannot be ignored is as you age your distance goes down. Being 84 I can attest to that particular fact. To me the shaft is just as if not more important than the head loft. But it seems media ads ignore that important fact when buying golf clubs.

Excellent. Being over 70, playing a Mavrik Max at 10deg, as an 11deg hits it too high; still hit nicely over 215. It depends on the fitter; some good, some the opposite. My thought for an avg. player, who chooses not to get fit - get a driver at 10.5deg, have adapter put on the permits -2 to +2deg adjustments & find your setting…

Great advice! I've always had a very flat driver swing and tend to have a low ball flight so I've been using a 12 degree driver for years. I just took a lesson and completely changed my swing plane (dropped right shoulder, hitting up on the ball) and all of a sudden I've got 20+ more yards and a nice, high ball flight. Too high. So I'm changing to a 10.5 degree driver (assuming when I get fitted it works for me) on the assumption that I'll still be hitting the ball higher but probably further as well...

Excellent explanation and demonstration. I had low driver ball flight for 15 years with most misses going left using 10.5 head and 55r shaft. Took one lesson (first since 2007) and practiced for a month then got fitted. Now with 9 degree head and 55s shaft attack angle is 4 up, launch 14, 20 yards more carry, 800 less spin and straighter flight. If I’d got fitted without the lesson it would have been very different - I’ve got wider stance, moved ball position forward, got more tilt behind the ball and standing closer to the ball to stay on plane and avoid toe hooks. Much longer and more consistent now. The lesson made the fitting much better. So did watching loads of youtube videos like this one to understand the swing and tech.

Ali, really like your friendly delivery and unassuming attitude across the majority of club golfers. As a cack -handed golfer of 40+ years, generally speaking I drive the ball quite well (consistently straight), but average around 220/230yds (swing speed 85ish), any pointers you would offer on loft/ spin/ carry scenarios? TIA.

Cracking video, Ali, thank you. I was fitted for my driver a few months back. My fitter set my Ping G le 2 to 11.5. He said I had natural fade with my swing and left it as such. I know with some drivers that yoy can change the draw or the fade. I am going for a new full bag fitting next Thursday, so I will mention it to my new fitter. The other guy has left our club now, so new ideas and all that.

I moved my driver up to 11.5 and was hitting fairways with consistency much more. Then I got cocky and moved it back down to it’s stated loft and started slicing way more and couldn’t figure out why. The way the loft can affect your the path of the ball flight is so interesting. Safe to say I will benefit from a higher loft which is fine w me bc I would rather hit it straight and long a lot of the time instead of straight and long sometimes but slice it a lot just for an extra 10 or 15 yards if I hit it right
@Superutubeking
@Superutubeking Жыл бұрын
Yes higher loft closes the club face which means less slicing so 12 degrees is good Less loft open the club face so more slicing It’s getting a balance if you are good at closing club face then 10.5 if not then 12 degrees will help you hit fairways

Just yesterday I change my 17' M1 9º from 10.25º to 8.75º and sitting on my the ground pleased my eyes. It was more like a 3/5 wood or a iron so I was more confident and, even that the face was more opened, I hit a mid flight straight 270 yds total (Like 20 yds further than my normal fades) . Maybe a 10.5º head would add some carry distance with no closed face. Maybe time for a fitting too.

Perfect examples for fitting tempo, ball speed, and peak height are important as well A rule of thumb for optimal carry, your peak height in feet should be similar to your 6 iron swing speed. Example, 6 iron swing speed = 80 mph, the peak height should be 80 feet +/- 10% for most/all clubs Optimized will provide better contact and increased ball speed. More distance ...

I have my cobra king speedzone driver set at 10.5 loft. I do notice that I hit the ball decently high weather I slice it or not. Sometimes I sky the ball, but I know that has to do with my swing path. You think if I lower it down to standard I’ll get a better ball flight? So less height so I can get more distance and less chances of skying the ball? I’m a beginner and noticed my driver hits have changed a lot. I went from slicing to hooking to skying to being able to hit 10 in a row perfectly straight for 220+ yards....now I did a full circle slicing again

Go get a lesson off a pro that has a monitor and once you have your delivery numbers you at least have an idea as to what you are doing right or wrong and whether your club is helping or harming you. From there you can decide if you want to optimise your swing or change your club. If your pro has a monitor them he or she is likely quite clued up on club fitting and may be able to adjust what you already have.

This video is great, but it would be better if a golpher with a 18-24 handicap doing the test so us mere mortals would get a better idea of what loft to use

Problem now with getting custom fitted is that all the club manufacturers have such a backlog on custom orders since the beginning of covid.

Many LPGA players have 9 degrees of loft even their average clubhead speed is less than 100 mph. I suppose that most of them hit up on the ball.

A lot depends on the shaft and ball they are using too. The professional players spend hours and hours testing to determine the best combination of everything to maximize distance.

I think the lady professionals are also able to generate decent spin rpm from low lofted drivers because they have excellent extension through the ball (opposite to chicken wing) and thereby create maximum possible spin for the low loft to obtain optimal trajectory and height

Must get fitted. Changing loft also changes lie angle and face angle as well.

Okay I think im retarded. For higher ball flight, am I setting my driver to +1.0? Or -1.0? I swear I’ve seen people saying different things

Adding gives you more loft but closes club face if you have a slice problem.

If your low point is ahead of the ball with a driver, you need to correct your swing, not increase the loft.
