Here is some Earl Scheib Commercials from the 1950s to 2010s that I put in one KZbin Video.
Earl Scheib, Inc. owns a national chain of automobile painting and body repair shops. Operating under the New Earl Scheib Paint & Body Shop name, the California-based chain consists of more than 175 stores in about 150 U.S. cities. Though the stores are primarily known for economically priced, production auto painting services, body and fender repair services are also offered. Earl Scheib manufactures its own paint at a company-owned facility in Missouri. The company established a fleet sales division in 1998. The Earl Scheib brand became well known largely through founder Earl Scheib, a pioneer of advertising. Beginning in July 2010, the company closed certain locations and franchised off the remaining locations to shop managers, giving them the opportunity to become small business owners. Specifically, the company offered them the rights to purchase all the equipment and fixtures in their shops and to use the Earl Scheib name for their own business. Many managers took advantage and agreed to the terms, resulting in today's independent Earl Scheib paint centers. These modern Earl Scheib centers now offer paint jobs and most of today's Scheib shops also offer custom painting, collision repair, and pinstriping. Earl Scheib the company is no more, but the name still lives on independently.

My friend had his 1970 Challenger painted there.. We spoke to one of the painters, who told us mask as much as you can yourself, and get a better job. We then offered the painter another 40 dollars on top of the 59.95... He said bring it on a Saturday, the boss is not here... Because he did alot of painting, the job was very nice, zero overspray.. No one believed it was an Earl Sheib job... Great memories

My family lived in Milwaukee and I remember driving past the $29.95 sign every week as a kid. My father had a blue 1968? Ford. For some reason, those cars in that color had bad paint jobs and the paint on the hood of our vehicle peeled. I don't know if Earl Schibe told my dad to mask his car.. I believe my dad knew better than to believe that he was going to get the paint job he wanted for $29.95 without doing his own masking. My dad was very meticulous and did all of the masking himself. I remember him being happy with the job they did

Thanks Earl, I put myself thru college buying repairing and reselling wrecked or damaged cars. Preparation was the difference between a quality paint job or a joke. 30 years later my family was shocked when I repaired my wife's totaled car in a couple days. They never imagined I knew how to do such things.

We had a ES competitor back in the 1950's in ELA, Park Auto Bake; $29.95 and baked-on ! Opened the newspaper one day and PAB offered a special at $19.95 and my 1951 dark green metallic Pontiac was in need so I ran it over to PAB and requested a black job. Picked up the car when it was ready and it looked really nice and when I got home took a close look; the flow was unbelievable, the gloss so good that I was afraid to wash it for a time for fear of marring the finish. Parked in front of our house, drive-bys would stop and ask where I got the paint job. Later sold the car so don't know how it held up long term..

I remember taking my brothers 1978 Subaru wagon to one. First, we sanded and primed it with rattle cans at home. The next day we drove to Earl Schiebs and removed the wipers and masked up the windows and bumpers with newspaper in the parking lot. We were pleasantly surprised it looked pretty damn good. Yes, there was minor overspray here and there, but we took care of that at home.

As l teenager who loved cars, l started hanging out at Earl Scheib to learn what to do for my car. I would bring in my car and mask it myself in line, then started doing light bodywork. l was hired when the bodyman quit. Then, l became a manager when he left. I spent about 5 years in the Baltimore shops and really enjoy fixing crazy messed up cars on a dime to this day. Basically, l wasted my life on cars. A lot off crazy things happened at Earl Sceib. I saw cars masked, sanded, painted and detailed in less than a half hour. The whole crew would jump on it if they got a $5 tip each. I had customers literally paint their car for a date that night. When paint jobs were $19.95, you could get a $14.95 special that was the bench slop left over in a 55 gallon drum from all the other paint jobs before changing colors. The manager would mix it up with a paint paddle and hang it up by the color chart. It was always a blue/purple color.

I took an old Ford pickup truck to Earl Scheib in San Diego back in 1971 for at the time one of their $19.95 paint jobs. Their ad was said $19.95 paint job and we will pull out one dent. Bring in in by 9am and pick up at 5pm. I had this truck painted blue, and they painted everything, wheels & the bumpers as well. I picked it up and the paint was still tacky and was told not to wash it or park it under any trees for at least 30 days.

I worked in the collision repair industry for 44 years. Nowadays you cannot buy a sleeve of quality masking tape for $29.95. We rarely did complete refinishing except in the case of vandalism. I retired 6 years ago and I would say that a complete refinish including R&I of all trim would cost in the neighborhood of $4-5,000.

It took several contacts to find a local independent body shop willing to fully repaint my older car that already had all the trim removed, door jambs done, and needed no body work. Seems their major preference is insurance jobs limited to panel repairs for a quick turnaround. Some had shop signs stating they won't do any rust repair, which is a major need in the snow belt where roads are salted. All paint work is very expensive today in part because the cost of automotive paint and related materials has become outrageous.

The cost of materials is astronomical and has been for years. You can’t buy a sleeve of 3M masking tape for $29.95 today. Not only that repair procedure’s are much different. I wrote a thousand estimates over the years to repair just this sort of thing. First they would remove the washer nozzles from the hood, possibly remove the headlamps and drop both ends of the front bumper. The fender liners may need to be removed if they are in the way as would any moldings on the fenders. Sand the hood down and feather the chips out, priming the hood, color coat the hood and possibly blending into the fenders. Clear coat the hood and fenders. Wet sand and buff as necessary and reinstall all the trim. Depending on number of chips priming and sanding more than once. It’s approximately a 3-4 day job. There’s probably 5-6 paint hours at the prevailing labor rate, plus paint hours multiplied by the prevailing materials rate. Twelve hundred for this job sounds about right. What did you make in 1970? I’m sure that it was a fraction of what you make today if you are still in the labor market. I never recommended to my customers spending money on purely ascetic repairs. I always wondered if you spend money to repair something like this, two weeks later you get rear ended and the car is junk. The money was spent for nothing.

I had my Camaro painted at Earl Scheib in 86 or 87. I did lots of the prep work, took the trim off etc myself and used them for just the spray process. I actually ended up with a very nice paint job but I did a big part of the work myself. They saved money on the prep work, if you did the prep yourself, they actually did a pretty good job of actually spraying it. lol If you didn't want your wheel wells and exhaust tips to match the body color, it was up to you to mask those off yourself.

In the NE USA we had Maaco. They had the same type of "specials" and their slogan was "Uh-Oh.......Better get Maaco" as they had a picture of a car backed into a mailbox or a fence. They always used the cheapest acrylic enamels on the market that had no brand name on the drum it came in.It was never mixed properly so you got a light red from the top and a dark red from the snot on the bottom. The concept of primer was unknown? Just scuff it and go! If you slipped the "technician" an extra $10 he would actually clean the Sears Craftsman or Chineseium spray gun properly AND empty all of the water from the bottom of the air compressor before he shot your car. Another $5 would get you Dupont or PPG hardener/activator instead of the generic crap in the white bottle that said "Caution-Isocyanates!" (F-in Superglue Lol) on the side. If you were into flipping cars for mad money? Maaco was your friend!

You think that it needed no body work but from my experience what you think is ready for paint and what the shop might think can be two entirely different things. I remember body techs in our shop that were hacks as they were referred to. They would send a vehicle off to paint and it would get rejected. The tech could do the work over or move on down the line. In my experience inferior techs didn’t stay at a quality shop for long. Perhaps other shops are geared to your type of repair, we were not. Sorry if I offended you but this was my life every day for many, many years.

Earl Scheib featured the ugliest colors so you'd pay extra for better choices. Every Scheib shop I knew of would use your paint which was quite inexpensive back then and do a good job.

Biden’s only been President since Jan 20, 2021. You have a lot of other Presidents to ‘thank’ before him.
