Essential oils are fine if it's just for the smell. But they can cause allergies and irritation, and can even be borderline deadly to animals, especially dogs. Specifically, she mentioned lavander oil. This is one of the more "popular oils" to use on animals, BUT lavender can be toxic if ingested in large doses for dogs and can cause respiratory issues. She sprays it like a firehose on his pet bed every night, and you know that oily girl must have multiple diffusers and apply it to food and topically if she is as big of a nutbag as she seems. She is slowly poisoning her dog. I freaking hate the protagonist. She sounds so preachy and pretentious.

the story could’ve maybe had worked out if they had met at the retreat when they were much younger, their relationship started out good and then deteriorated before broke up. then they could’ve had their own lives for 7 years to grow up as people and stop being so self obsessed and immature, and then rekindled as _friends_ before moving on to romance after a good while. it’s just rushed and weird, everything happens way too fast for it to make any sense. I kind of wanted Ava to end up with one of Matt's roommates. There's an interesting story in this novel about love-at-first-sight being tested in the real world and how it breaks down, but getting to know someone you think is "ugly" at first can bloom into a meaningful connection. But no, Matt and Ava stick it out even though they make each other completely miserable during the honeymoon phase when they should be blissfully ignorant of any and all annoying flaws. The fact that this is truly a desirable fantasy for not only the writer but the fans to literally constantly squash your instincts & completely flub every social interaction as a supposed couple is a bit disturbing. Like their entire relationship is just sex & torturously awkward interactions seemingly even during sex too. Outside of outright gross physical, mental or emotional abuse, I can’t really think of a relationship I’d less like to be a part of than the travesty the protagonists have.

As a man who wastes a huge deal of his life obsessing over dolls I can say: I have never heard of such a thing as a company that makes doll houses and happens to make dolls occasionally too (and has a theme park for them). There are companies that make toys, that happen to have one or more lines of dolls who they are then making doll houses for occasionally. Very rarely you see a company that makes very expensive designer dolls and nothing else but never seen any doll houses from them. Nor does any of those companies have a theme park because I really don’t know how to form a theme park around the theme of „line of plastic girls who wear fashion“. But who knows, maybe one day we will have a permanent Barbieland! I can’t wrap my mind around how the author got this idea.

If you are going to use them around pets, at least check thoroughly that they won't harm them, homegirl is setting up her friend for dog murder.

Thank you for making sure I never waste my time on this book. My reaction to the story can be summed up with "The fuck? Good God. No no no NO!" I actually said that, over and over.

this book is the physical embodiment of all of the fears i have about getting into relationships 💀 like imagine having the "perfect" person for you and you butt heads at nearly anything and everything. and sometimes its not even just arguing, it's just about clashing preferences. small things like how long you take a shower, what temperature you keep your apartment at, eating preferences (bonus if you're an interracial couple), bed set up preferences, work/school schedule, and so much more. some of these won't cause arguments, but when compromised, they could lead to becoming deal breakers because it's a new relationship and you shouldn't have to give up everything so soon

This book by the premise alone sounds like a novelization of Love is Blind.

This entire book is two people who do not get along at all, they are simply conflicting personalities. An extreme personality that’s over dramatic and a person that doesn’t have one at all. It felt like it was leading to them realizing that they are not compatible. Then they stay together…. Why?

I talked to a guy who worked for almost ten years in an NGO for rehabilitating violent dogs and he told me in his experience dogs have a base position in the hierarchy that comes sort of naturally to them, so its not just about being a leader but knowing how to give your dog the amount of responsibility they need and not more nor less so they're comfortable and not perpetually stressed (he said this was his own theory not a fact! Cause this whole field of study is so bad and no one knows anything and its full of snake oil salespeople and hacks. But I watched this guy work and if anything, he knows in practice how to rehabilitate dogs for real whether or not his theory is right)
@Caldella2 жыл бұрын
I think that makes sense. Whether or not you believe in the hierarchy, a dog's personality factors into it strongly. Over half of dogs put through service dog training don't make it - usually because their personalities don't mesh with what's required. They're too stranger friendly, or have trouble pulling the leash, or something very simple that's just too hardwired into them. It doesn't make them bad dogs, just not suited for that job.
@alisdraws2 жыл бұрын
@@Caldella yeah exactly! A lot of pet advice you get online is very broad and just won't work for every dog. This guy had a personal sort of theory he came up with, but mostly he just had a lot of experience and all the advice he gave us was solid. Wish it wasn't so easy to find bad advice for dog care

The reason Mat puts up with all the crazy is the sex must be that good. I knew someone chill who dated someone just like Ava and stuck around waaaay to long cu the sex was good. And this chick ended up getting a restraining order put on her after she tried to trick him into a wedding

I... oh my God. The part where Harold gets hit by a car. My god lol. Also her irresponsibility, Jesus. My god the ending is nauseating. And magically how Matt is just in love with her life. The ending is just how Matt can change himself to accomodate her. And it doesnt make sense why he would. And doesnt mean she loves this man. Just a god awful relationship. Needless to say, I enjoyed the crap out of this because of Alizee

I was scared at first because I have enjoyed Sophie Kinsella books but knowing you’ve enjoyed some too made me feel a little better about my choices 😆😆 I have never read this particular book though so I’m interested in seeing/hearing your thoughts!
@AlizeeYeezy2 жыл бұрын
Yeah all her other books have been light, entertaining reads that you can easily get through in a few days. This particular one just missed the mark for me, but there's no love lost between Kinsella and I, and I'll still read her other novels when I have the time.

I have been a vegetarian for 25 years now. Back far enough when it wasn't as easy to do here in the states. To this day though I know if I'm going to eat at someone's house I'll be eating side dishes or bringing my own food. I have a friend that's vegan. I have no idea how to accommodate that and she always brings her own food. I wouldn't expect someone to make a whole separate meal for me so I don't find it odd that Matt's parents didn't create a whole different meal for Ava

Although I've never read this book, I would love it if it turned into some sort of obsessive / maniacal book where the MC slowly becomes more obsessed with Matt and those little asides about hoping he likes dogs or hoping he's a vegetarian become part of her fantasy.

Obsessively anthropomorphizing inanimate objects isn't a quirky habit, it's called attachment disorder. Ava needs to "rescue" a self help book or two. She honestly reminds me of the videos people take of their toddlers crying over silly things they don't understand yet, like the 'sun disappearing', or 'that other baby that looks just like me making rude faces at me.' If this isn't satire, and I were one of Sophia Kinsella's real life female friends, I'd be asking myself some hard questions right now... like, 'Am I Ava?' 😂

There’s something very “old man yells at cloud” about this story. It’s as if it’s written for people that are the characters’ ages, but sounds like it’s from an author a generation or two older who gets their information on 30 somethings in the 2010s from those “Millennials killed” clickbait headlines. I wouldn’t be surprised if Ava used to eat avocados on toast every morning or Matt drones on about how much he wants a Tesla 😒

I was on a binge Rom-Com read last year. Went through maybe 15 books in 3 weeks, really wasn’t picky about what I was reading and I came across another Sophie Kinsella book- ‘I owe you one’ and it is the first book I’ve ever had to stop reading, no joke. I could not make heads or tails of the plot, it was just utter nonsense
@Anita-nw5ts Жыл бұрын
Yes, that was exactly what I was thinking. I read that book a couple of years ago and absolutely hated it. Have not read anything else by the author since (or at all, now that I think about it). The main character is the definition of a pushover and it doesn't ever get any better so you didn't miss anything
