A global recession was widely predicted in 2023, but major economies held firm, raising interest rates to control inflation.
The United States' economy expanded by 5.2 percent in the third quarter, the quickest pace in nearly two years.
Food and fuel prices have come down. But inflation and high interest rates remain a major issue in many parts of the world.
Meanwhile, China is grappling with deflation as prices continue to fall. How will slowing growth and demand there affect the rest of the world?
We look at what lies ahead for the global economy in 2024.

This global collapse might end up being a part of us for a very long time. With inflation currently at about 9%, my primary concern is how to maximize my savings/retirement fund of about $300k which has been sitting duck since forever with zero to no gains.

The stock market is a way to hedge against inflation. Most notably amidst recession, invest-ors need to understand where and how to allocate funds to hedge against inflation and still make profits.

I agree, having a port-folio-advisor for investing is genius! Not long ago amidst the pandemic crash in March 2020, I was really having investing nightmare prior touching base with a license portfolio-advisor. In a nutshell, i've accrued over $550k with the help of my advisor from an initial $120k investment thus far.

As a global economic observer, I've noticed that while major economies thrive, African economies are struggling significantly due to the strengthening of the dollar. This situation leads me to believe that adopting the dollar as their primary currency, a process known as dollarization, might be a viable solution for these African nations. Alternatively, the implementation of socialism could offer a different path, potentially providing more control over domestic economic policies and resources. The choice between dollarization and socialism presents a crucial decision for these countries, each offering distinct advantages and challenges in the face of a dominant global currency environment.

it's so funny to me when they think that the covid stimulus lasted any considerable amount. Stop pointing to it. It was a drop on the bucket. The reason the US economy grew is because 1. we export inflation, and 2. we are forced to. Most Americans live paycheck to paycheck - It's do or die, we must make payments, we must work hard enough to do so

People typically migrate to pursue opportunities. Nothing unusual about it. China has an emigration rate of around 0.02% a year while the US is around 0.03%. The only difference is that there are significantly more Chinese people in the world than all the western nations including Russia combined.

Things take longer to happen than overnight. At some stage the rate rises will catch up with the economy and we will get the recession. Rate cuts in 24 will lead to job losses as demand slows. I still think we may have 12 to 18 months before it hits the fan.

Perhaps, but consider the outsized role that geopolitics is playing in the global supply chain reset. Investment capital appears to be re-examining where to invest in production based on both geopolitical risk calculations & increasing protectionist sentiments in many major trading countries. None want their capital investments stranded behind what could become future enemy lines or tariff laden zones. The fossil fuel market risk scenario that could go to $150 per bbl if the Israeli/Palestinian Conflict were to escalate into a regional conflict shows just how quickly a geopolitical conflict could impact the entire global economy. Very sobering! I'm no expert but this seemed like a very intelligent assessment & forecast to me.
