That is a ridiculously low bar. It is easy to spend time on self reflection when you don’t have the requirement to work or study, so the fact that these girls were able to reflect is not some admirable feat. If anything, I would say that the fact that it took them so long to realize their privilege is a testament to their ignorance.

I dont hate them. They grew up in money, they were born in it, its not their fault how they turned out. They actually seem quite normal at the end. Its their parents faults for not teaching them the right values before they grew up. They are slowly learning what is important in life. thats the thing, a lot of parents didn't work hard to gain that wealth. It's a common pattern in China, there are a lot of people that got super rich in a short period of time due to investing/the rapid growth of real estate. These new millionaires to billlionaires sometimes are barely educated and have no idea what to do with that money and with their children. So the children end up growing up like this. Even in China, a lot of these people are discriminated against as "uneducated" but filthy rich. HOWEVER, this is only a small percent of the population and there are a lot of people that receive top ivy education and come out and work for their education. I don't want to spread stereotypes against my own origin country :)

The problem with such a rapid transition from communism to capitalism is that the sudden influx of wealth greatly outpaced the time needed to cultivate a altruistic, responsible perspective in the society. The society simply hasn't developed rules and practices for how to be responsibly rich yet. Right now it's just a bunch of people who are still in the process of discovering all these amazing things you can do with money and they don't have a single thought for the millions upon millions of their countrymen on whose devalued labor their parents' fortunes were built.
@edek31598 жыл бұрын
I agree exactly! I have tried explaining this to some of my Chinese friends (not to shame them, but to have a genuine discussion) but they don't seem to understand what I am saying. Maybe it is because I am unable to explain properly, who knows. They got so rich so fast, poor people cannot raise rich kids well, that is why rich people usually know how to make money, they literally think money, it is just their mentality. I also think Chinese people have an unhealthy pride for both themselves and China (EVEN my Chinese friend admitted that). When people mention that China has so much pollution, they make excuses by mentioning they are doing America's work. I am no american and no expert, BUT they were not forced, they wanted to manufacture other countries products for money.
@HanZhang19948 жыл бұрын
Edmund De Kock Yeah, I get what you're saying. I think it might be defensiveness rather than pride though. Whenever sensitive topics are brought up, especially from a what they would see as a descendant of a former colonial power, they will tend to get defensive. Not saying they are right in doing so. It's a pretty deep scar there from that time in history and so they're wary of words and critique coming from people they associate with colonial powers who brought great suffering upon China. It might also be a language issue. In English, alot of Chinese sound really blunt, and to the inexperienced it may seem like pride, but it's just how they speak English when they have a limited vocabulary. Chinese from China sound very different (tone of speech) when speaking in Chinese versus English, they sound alot more thoughtful and open in Chinese. In English they often sound like they've already made up their mind about something. This is just them rushing to form sentences to keep with the conversation and so they default to the simplest form of the statement, without qualifiers and nuance. I'd say from my experience, most Chinese still think there's a long way to go and much needs to be improved.

Plenty of Caucasians and Middle Eastern people do this. So why are people being testy towards Chinese acting like this? Maybe they're still stuck with the "stereotype" perspective that Asians are poor. Well, it's their money (their inheritance, to be precise) and they can do whatever they please.
@LegendNeverD1es8 жыл бұрын
Stan Hu Technically speaking, the "original" natives did not speak English. It was the English who forced them into residential schools and destroyed the aboriginal culture since they deemed it as "barbaric." The Chinese are not taking over "your land" or "my land" since they legally immigrated to Canada and legally used their money to buy land, hence they are as much of "Canadian" as you and me. It's full bogus and racist when you say they are taking over our land. We are not Americans (Trump supporters), who does not value the sense of multiculturalism - we are better than that.

Before we start saying that the parents are wrong to spoil their kids, remember that we would too in the future, like to provide for our kids what we never had and longed for as teenagers/young adults because we love them. I feel that the poorer the origins of the parents' backgrounds, the more they are willing to provide for their kids materialistically because they don't want their kids to have to suffer and go through hardship as they did in the past.

Yes, it's quite clear you come from the same mold - hence the support for these rich tycoons. If you live in this environment and either live modestly like the average Canadian or has lived here for generations, it's a pill nobody wants to swallow or appreciate. They've driven the standard of living in the city to such high levels that most locals are fleeing to other places so they CAN afford a home or shop in stores that won't cater to the rich. Furthermore, the negative drawback from these immigrants is that they don't assimilate with the environment and use their riches as empowerment over the local people and culture. They don't bother learning the English language and keep within their communities because they have the ability to buy every ounce of real estate and build their own little world - creating a separation from the locals. So, it's easy to be envious of one who shows off their money and spends it haphazardly , but one must have a deeper mind to see the impact it does to a local environment both economically and culturally.
@xandercorp61757 жыл бұрын
I'm an average Canadian (honestly, my parents were likely poorer than yours to start off). Chasing work in cities for a better standard of living is nothing new and no great injustice, and neither is people without means migrating to more affordable areas. *If you have riches, you will have advantages.* The only reason that could make that untrue is if people will take your riches from you at the point of a gun or the like. The land and people remake each other, and this is not only an immigrant thing, thought the Scottish and Irish did the same thing. We're lucky that it's the rich immigrants coming and not the poor, because in fact they either do assimilate or they never really put down roots; communities of poorer immigrants are more insular as a necessity and tend to put down roots without assimilating if given no functional human reason to. Money doesn't by itself hurt local economies and cultures. They just need to know how to handle things and adapt to progress.

And then let the places sit empty for months/years while the lack of housing supply causes prices to skyrocket. I'm glad these young women are realizing the value of working for your money, but uber wealthy people like them from all over the world are a big factor in why average Canadian citizens (especially immigrants) can't afford to buy even one house or apartment in the Vancouver area.

well they've money they're spending and it's their money so why're people bashing them? it's actually good that they're buying and money is flowing in not saturated. so economically it's better.
@SquidtheSquidinator7 жыл бұрын
Shreya Ray because back in china people are working for less than a dollar a day, just the contrast of chinese people in this world.
@hadezmage7 жыл бұрын
It's not better, economically, cash inflow is greater or equal or cash outflow, so the economy is actually losing money even when they spend it.
@ItharAbbas7 жыл бұрын
It's not their money, if you paid attention to the documentary.

They dont really make the economy better, regular apartments downtown are about 3000$ a month for a simple 1 bed 1 bath apartment, also they take over alot of buisnesses.

I never been envy of rich people. I have my fair comfort living in my hard earn money. To be able to rent, to eat at food chain, to walk and sight seeing, to have my own space of mind and happy heart, able to read...I feel like I'm okay. Rich in my own way. Its about state of your heart and mind. Millionaire kids are not bad and stupid. That's they're way of being human.

The real richness is in heart not in account, The most expensive things are true love, honest heart, respected person, faithful mind, which are can't buy with money.

My dad wanted to buy a Lamborghini Aventador for me. I refused and got a Camaro instead, which I hardly drive because it's still among the highest price cars where I live. I just want the simplest life possible. Of course, knowing you're financially among the richest 10% in the country helps.

It's not because they're Chinese because Americans, Europeans, Arabs etc. kids do the same. It's refreshing to meet someone who is wealthy and discreet. It shows they have some class.
@smalltiny8 жыл бұрын
As a child, I went to a private school with kids of actual old money families. They are nothing like the nouveau riche. This "they have money and that is all they have known" idea isn't true at all. They are people who were NOT born into money but got rich (or their parents but not before that) through get rich quick schemes and in a few generations will lose all that money when tides change. The idea that the ultra rich are spoiled, sick or money obsessed isn't true when that wealth was accumulated over time. As each generation gets richer, they accumulate culture too. It is people that were truly born into money that don't see buying big designer names or nice cars and mansions as a huge deal.

I think many people have realized that, at least the more cultured ones. Not having to slave yourselves for money definitely opened up many doors to happiness and better beings. They don't have to take a part-time job, but would take classes to learn instead.

Just one thing I noticed that I thought was funny...they're partying in a seven million dollar mansion in Hollywood and everyone is still using red solo cups. Wow, I guess red solo cups really are a staple of every house party
@skinkscat7 жыл бұрын
In fact, I wonder how much the solo company makes on those red cups each year? Their head execs? How do their children party, ate they just as rich as these girls? Do they still use red solo cups at their parties and do they get them for free or do they shun the product that afforded them their lifestyle? What effects do those plastic red cups have on the environment every year? Is that a price we're all willing to pay? Just some random thoughts that came quickly
@LilyRose-theOne4 жыл бұрын
I find it hard to watch... Parents of these girls are damaging them... Children need some structure and healthy discipline. Giving children so much money will make them empty in the long run...They won’t be able to learn the value of money. They probably didn’t realize that money can damage this girls... Many Hollywood actors realized that when their children lost their purpose in life, had everything and wanted more excitement in form of drugs...

People like this are ruining real estate in Vancouver and Toronto. I'm a 26 year old Canadian Master's graduate who can barely afford to live in a squalid apartment....I think people like this are the reason who real estate prices are so high in Canadian cities.
@joefnd8 жыл бұрын
it's not their fault though.. you should blame your government for letting them in (easily?).. but you have to also see the gain they bring to your country.. with that kind of spending power.. you gain some you lose some.
@joefnd8 жыл бұрын
and also, from the other point of view, there are plenty of Canadian expats living in their country and changing the way things are over there too. So can't really look at it from just one side.

"Canada has something China cannot buy with money" -fresh air. 😨 😦☹️
@s.v.27964 жыл бұрын
And who is breathing china's not so fresh air? China's slave labor toiling so these spoiled women can shop overseas whilst breathing clean air. And no, that was not a jealous remark. It was a comment predicated on another's.
@s.v.27964 жыл бұрын
@Xiao Long my remark had nothing to do with weither or no China has fresh air. It was based on a video and about factor workers. And that opinion was based based on personal experience after buying 2 supposedly beautiful cotton shirts, and receiving instead 2 ugly rags, that were so saturated with chemicals that my room stank of foul substance for days. For this I paid over $60. I was ripped off by the Chinese factory, the online representatives etc. I'm the only one either. There are dozens in my position. So who works in these factories? Please don't tell me the places smell sweet. I'll gladly send you the shirt. You can then help me get my $60 back. Again my comment was about people forced to work in the factories that make these clothes.
