In 2016, a landmark accord between the Colombian government and FARC’s Marxist fighters saw fighters lay down their arms after decades of conflict.
Although the deal was controversial, many hoped it would lead to a new era of calm and prosperity. But five years on, the inequality and poverty that led to the armed uprising have not gone away, amid claims the terms of the agreement have yet to be fully implemented by both sides.
When anti-government protests earlier this year were met with a savage police response, Colombians began to wonder if their troubled country would ever be at peace.
People & Power went to find out why.

Everyone knows that Colombia is still one of the most class structured republics of Latin America. Even more she has retained socially and culturally the colonial attitudes of Mother Spain. To her credit the Castillian spoken in Colombia could be spoken in the taverns of Madrid. But Colombia reminds me of the Spain of the 1920s-1930s. The oligarchy and the revolutionaries refusing to give way. And like the anarchist pistoleros of Barcelona, the Cartels provide the assasins.

As someone from Colombia this only shows the leftist and insurgent side of the story. There are many willing to live in peace without an uproar not portrayed here.

Like the so call "Gente de bien" people so disconnected to the reality of the country side and marginalized communities. Those people are ok letting paramilitaries run rampant killing anyone do they can have their roadtrip. There no such thing as other side, the UN and human rights watch made it clear, the government has committed violation of human rights. The only side is that the Narco State has done absolutely nothing for Colombians.

@@MrAlen6e “Gente de bien” People of good faith that instead complaining gets to work to get what they want from life, this is the kind of citizenship that the world needs. Instead of giving excuses on why your life is miserable get to work and give value to your community, innovate and use your resources. The Government doesn’t own you anything except security for your property and the safeguard of your rights. Do you think is fair for the people who owns stores and a family business to get wrecked by these insurgents because “They don’t get enough?” These people only want to loot and destroy. Stop acting with entitlement, If you want a better future, then act on it, you are the only responsible for what you get out of life.

Other people are not "willing" to leave in peace, they are lucky to have the opportunity to live in an area the government has decided to keep safe. This is only in the big cities and tourist areas. The rest of the country is left to fend for themselves against the well-armed cartels and paramilitaries who are fighting for control of the drugs. The people from these communities have no option of living in peace.

what an incomplete report. You missed the numerous "peace deals" that were never respected by the gorilla forces. You missed that the peace deal was voted down when it went to the public for voting. You missed the reports of the police building being burned down. Hotels hosting police burned down with them in it. ONE side story. Up next let's talk about modern slavery in Qatar.

by the way this documentary is wrong. they refused to acknowledged that the Farc has been offer over 100 different peace deals that they violated since the early 80's.

The current ‘state’ of Colombia is much more complicated and complex than what is ‘presented’ here in this youtube article. As is often the case around this planet, corruption as well as ‘the good’ exists on many sides.

al jazeera is the only media company i know that still cover international issues without taking sides, since Qatar doesn't have a strong pressure to side with either west nor east. used to watch the BBC but now it has degenerated into a tabloid, neutral in all but name

@antonio so tell me an example of that agenda? the saudis and their allies got mad because qatar wasn't playing ball and stayed close with the turks and iranians. then the saudis just accused them of sponsoring terrorism and the US and the west is too happy to play along with that, and they imposed very strict sanctions, you would know if you flew qatar airways because their airspace was almost fully blocked after years and years it failed to break down the qataris, and now the saudis and americans are acting as if nothing happened tell me, what terrorism? and aljazeera has not a drop of connection to that. their female reporters don't even wear the hijab. in their coverage of the taliban they have no opinion on the strict islamic rules. don't just swallow what you media and government tell you. find out the facts. a lot of the times these things are geopolitical moves, but sold to you as "for democracy/freedom" or whatever dream you believe in

@antonio it’s fine to hate the qataris for exploiting indians. But that’s a totally separate issue on why you claim al jazeera to be bad? What did they do wrong? Your arguments don’t add up.
