Hmm, you think? I think he over did it. The noise was all wrong too. Fucking FX was overriding it all. Also Dan looked like a spare part with those 2 going for goth and him not.

normally instruments sound awful on talk shows/television, but I think Matt's guitar sounds perfect here. Really crunchy and raw, although it's probably just the result of a shitty sound guy.

i'm just guessing, but i think they went back to their producer and asked how to make the song sound more consistent with the gothic-ey sound of crimson.

There's a lightning storm each and every night Crashing inside you like motorbikes We toss and turn, sleep so loud Grind the teeth in our empty mouths Our empty There's a forest fire burning bright Spreading quickly towards our last rights Nowhere to run, pointless to hide Just lay there and scream, pretending to try Pretending Intending to burn, pretending to fight it Everyone learns faster on fire Things took a turn, lost all desire You live and you burn You live and you burn This impending doom is left deep inside And it's haunting you each and every night Like starving wolves, counting sheep We close our eyes, pretending to sleep Descending Intending to burn, pretending to fight it Everyone learns faster on fire Things took a turn, lost all desire You live and you burn You live and... Like hell, we are anxiously waiting Like hell burning silently strong Somehow we fell down by the wayside And somehow this hell is home As we burn, pretending to fight it Everyone learns faster on fire Things took a turn, lost all desire You live and you burn You live and Like hell, we are anxiously waiting Like hell burning silently strong Somehow we fell down by the wayside And somehow this hell is home Right now, this hell is my home

If you look at 1:53, Derek is fixing his mic and never hits his snare, but where does that snare hit come from? Just thought that was an interesting mistake.

I hate to be the one that points this out, because I think this was a marvelous performance, but at 1:51 Derek scratches his nose with his left hand and is only hitting the hi hats with his right, yet the snare sound happening. Did he pantomime to the recording?

I'll admit it, i didnt see it, but he's got a good eye. Do you not see it? you can clearly see that he doesn't hit the snare and yet you hear the snare. wait for a few seconds after 1:51, you can clearly see him scratching his nose and only hitting the hi hats and the snare sound still comes out somehow...

Matt Kim one comment said it’s a kick. It’s possible, but since they’re playing along to the click (piano in the bridge confirms that) perhaps there was a light kick and snare beat in the backing track.

Matt Kim I totally hear what I believe is a snare too lol. He was moving the mic closer to do his verse backing vocals though.

@Brianmelso While Matt is pretty badass, one of the strengths he has in Rancid is that they're your original punk band. fast and rough. That's where Matt Freeman's skills seem to come on hand, he can play really fast and pretty damn well, but that doesn't make him the greatest punk or rock or just pure bass players. Dan is a great bassist, guitarist, lyricist, vocalist and all round musician. Based on that, Dan wins. But the best bass player ever has to go to Les Claypool. that man's a beast.

Lewis Watt Matt Skiba is trying his hardest to sing this one at the top of his lungs as is required for this song. They picked a high key here as they could have drop tuned to make it easy on the vocals. Apparently, Skiba still does not have a warm up routine in place for his vocal chords before each performance and likes to carry out live playing to match the recording. That means he has to pitch his voice kinda beyond his range for a live gig. As a result his vocals come out faulty at key sections of the song where he cannot raise his pitch any higher.
