With the first one, I’m starting to wonder how the Aus/NZ ministry of magic deals with them. Assuming their scales resemble Australian Black Opals (it makes sense to me an opal-themed dragon living in Aus/NZ will bare resemblance to Aus/NZ opals) their shiny, colourful, fire breathing, and somewhat large in comparison to how tiny and delicate native flora and fauna is. Not to mention NZ has a lot of open farmland for sheep and cows, and I seriously doubt a few gumtrees here and there, and maybe an occasional hill or mountain regions is gonna be enough to hide those bad boys. Edit: also, for anyone not from NZ, farmers have been watching livestock a lot more closely due to a decline in numbers over the last few decades, so a dragon coming and taking like half of their farm isn’t gonna go unnoticed lol

Honestly, when I first saw some of the dragon breeds, I was heavily reminded of certain dragon tribes in the Wings of Fire series. Welsh Greens reminded me of LeafWings, Chinese Fireballs of SkyWings, Hebridean Blacks of NightWings, and Swedish Shortsnouts of IceWings. There are some glaring differences between Harry Potter and Wings of Fire, though. In the latter series, dragons and humans are actually "rivals" for dominating their world, both being sentient and sapient creatures, though there is an obvious language barrier. There are no signs of humans having magic in WoF despite the existence of dragons that *do* have magic or otherwise supernatural abilities. And for having so many aspects related to dragons in the Harry Potter series, they don't have nearly as much of a spotlight as you'd expect; anything involving them is a side-plot at best.
@starlight03132 жыл бұрын
The “scavengers” or “reading monkeys” really don’t seem to be powerful rivals, the dragons seem to have an extreme advantage in the series in general

Well, the dragons in the film are made 'realistic' and not as ridiculous as the creatures in the DnD series or so. The Chinese dragon, while cool, is too crazy to create a believable creature. Dragons have always been my fav Fantasy Creature. With that said, the Harry Potter Version have always seemed more like extra large Wyverns than actual Dragons. (I know some Realms evolve Dragons that make do with 2 Legs just fine & some evolve in a way to where they find evolutionarily tactical use for Wings with ability to cling to Hill/Mountain Sides, but i'm most accustomed to the more normal traditional 4-Legged variety.) As for my fav Breed, haven't got to interact with them enough to be able to make a call on that as of the time of this Comment, sadly. I can say however the Hungarian Horntail looks the most awesome & warriorish to me. :D

Here on Iceland we have something that we calked: An icelandic Snowdrake
@nexxo_0063 жыл бұрын
Bred originally in Iceland, the Icelandic Snowdrake is known for its love of sheep, often tending them and herding them, even making small fires when caught in snow too heavy even for the Icelandic sheep. Many Snowdrakes are first fed on sheep’s milk by their wixes, who use the feeding to accustom the pygmy dragons to the sheep, so they do not seek to hunt them., Once accustomed to creatures - through scent most usually, though infants do well when fed the milk of the creature - they can be trained with the creature(s) they are accustomed to in ways much more difficult with other pygmy dragon breeds. While they can breathe fire they also possess a freezing venom not dissimilar to that of the Arctic Ice Dragon, and have many physical traits in common with the Ice Dragon, being icily pale and almost crystalline in some respects, with pale blue or grey eyes, and claws of razor sharpness. However it is the size of the creatures (much smaller than the Arctic Ice Dragon) and claw colour that they are distinct, having ivory claws on their paws, and dark grey, almost black claws on their wings.
