Pretty sure most ships could saucer-separate, but the Galaxy class was the first class developed that could reattach without having to go in for repairs.
@setsuna200
@setsuna200 Жыл бұрын
Yes, for the constitution class, yes, that was an emergency feature. But this would not return till the Galaxy Class starships. All others were not built to separate. Then came the Prometheus class, which had multi vector assault mode. Then, the Odyssey class in Star Trek Online that this returned in the proper sense of a saucer separation. Gene Roddenberry originally wanted the constitution to do this, but due to budget, it was not possible.

The Old Lady destruction (the original 1701) was heartbreaking. I hated and still hate the creative staff of that movie, that decided that way. On the other hand, the Enterprise-D destruction was simply idiotic. It does not matter which tactical advantage the Klingon could possibly have had, or even the fact they had shields up: the Big E would simply crush them with a full barrage of photon torpedoes and phasers. That crappy Bird of Prey would have been obliterated in a matter of mere seconds.

@@andrewbutton2039 They are on the pylons to create a stable warp field. They require line of sight to do so. Which is why the Defiant is an illegal design that does not work. And don't give me any lip about the hull of the ship being it's line of sight garbage. Beside we are talking future tech, for all we know the pylons have a structural integrity of extremely thick metal condensed into thin pylons. We was never given any actual information on the true strength of them. Let me ask this, the wings and cockpit of a fighter jet is it's weak points are they not? So why don't enemies go for the wings or cockpit instead of the body or engines? Could be because the body is easier to hit at range while the engines put out heat missiles could lock onto? One could argue that was the same reason they went for the body and the saucer section. Easier to hit.

The one system you might want to use if the ship had been damaged in some way is always the one that goes offline first when the ship gets damaged. That seems to have been corrected by the time Voyager is launched, as that ship seemed to eject its core every other week!

When they busted Kirk back down to Captain at the end of The Voyage Home I broke out laughing in the theater. Then when they revealed the "NCC-1701-A" in the 'new' Enterprise I completely lost it. As far as the previous movie had scattered and wrecked everything we had previously known as Star Trek, this movie wrapped everything back up tighter than Spock's ass! I don't count any of the 'time-loop destructions' but my very favorite one is the 'saucer crash' you mentioned. When I went to see First Contact in the theater on opening day in a small college town on the California coast with a small group of Trekkies behind me, I saw the new Enterprise E and started saying "F, G, H, I, J…". Then at every point the Enterprise was in imminent danger, "L, M, N, O, P…" and again, "Q, R, S, T, U…" and when they finally ordered Self Destruct, "V, W, X, Y…" laughing all the way. I was actually quite surprised when that shiny new Enterprise made it to and through the end of that movie!

Bit of a nitpick but I hate it when people say "Lawl, they should have just remodulated the shields in Generations" The first salvo from the BoP took out main power and crippled primary systems. Something like "Torpedo guidance and launch control is offline! Attempting repairs!" or, after they do return fire with that one phaser shot shown on screen, "Phaser power has been lost due to EPS rupture!". Then there could have been a scene or two of the mad scramble to jerry rig a repair so they could launch torpedoes again, to coincide with the availability of the trick used to make the BoP cloak.

The destruction of the Enterprise in Beyond is one of my favourites. The crew fight so hard to save that ship, well past the point where anyone would think they could. I hope things align eventually so they can take their version of the A out at last.

the destruction of the enterprise in the kelvin timeline however was destroyed by orders from a pre federation soldier gone rouge honestly seeing her being destroyed was quite sad but getting near the end of that movie is quite funny even a admiral smiles

If you were going with the onscreen destruction of Federation ships, rather than just the Enterprise, you would have to add an additional seven. The USS Yamato, USS Saratoga, an unnamed Miranda-class, USS Defiant, USS Odyssey, and USS Voyager (x3).

The difference between the TOS Enterprise being able to separate the saucer section from the rest of the ship from the way that the TNG Enterprise does the same: TOS era Enterprise had explosive bolts that had to be detonated whereas the Enterprise-D was designed to separate and reconnect as many times as they wanted

"instead of remodulating the shields, they come up with some ridiculous plan..." they remodulate the shields 3 times, but since Geordi is inexplicably the one rotating the shield frequencies, the Duras see it happen and can match the frequency again.
@mb2000
@mb2000 2 жыл бұрын
Do they? I don’t remember there being any mention at all of anyone even trying to change the shield frequencies after the first torpedo hit. Riker, Data and Worf are busy technobabbling about the Klingon ship and ionic pulses and Geordi is too busy with damage control in Engineering to be playing with the shields. In Best of Both Worlds, it was Data, at Ops on the bridge, who was the one that rotates the shield frequency anyway. This should have been the first thing they thought of though, as well as just throwing every torpedo and phaser beam they could at the Klingon ship… but ace pilot Troi turned the Enterprise away from the enemy so most of the weapons were out of their firing arcs…

What about Enterprise 1701 C in 'Yesterday's Enterprise' ? And what anout Enterprise 1701 B in the opening of 'Generations' ? I can see how B wasn't entirely destroyed by the Nexus ribbon, but it did suffer catastrophic damage.

Its easy to make fun of ST today, but no one could have predicted way back when it began that the lure would have endured for so long. Just imagine if it started today and writing a series that would last half a century from now. Given that, they did do a pretty good job of connecting the dots of many of the broken episodes of the past. My favorite is the appearance of the Klingons from the original series, as compared to those on TNG. Too bad the warp speed limitation was just too badly damaged to ever repair.

Once time reset does the three Enterprises really count as it never happened? Also the galaxy X shouldn't count as it doesn't exist anymore with troy crashing into the planet thus the galaxy does not exist.
