Yep, STO classifies all Romulan ships as warbirds. Even the Scimitar is a warbird. My fav version is the Valkis Dreadnaught Warbird.

Interesting thing about the Star Trek ships, is that they are all aerodynamic. I know that because when you accidentally drop a Micro Machines ship, it glides to the ground. That's happened to me several times.

I agree about 95% of that. I still have a couple sets of Star Trek micro machine spaceships, as well as a number of the playmates ships. The part I disagree with is the both cube is definitely not aerodynamic, especially with all the exterior grids, grates, pipes, and other structures. But that's about it.

The reason the Valdore class look like Klingon bird's of prey from the ToS movie/TNG era is because those ships were originally supposed to be Romulan (hence why they look like an evolution of the Romulan bird of prey ships from ToS). The villains of ST3 were changed from Romulans to Klingons during a script rewrite but the ship model had already been built and so was simply made to look dirtier (but the distinctive Romulan bird of prey feathers under the wings are still clearly visible).

If I remember rightly that bit was a simulation. In one of the early TNG episodes some alien kidnapped Riker, and put him through a simulated future in which he was captain of the Enterprise, and Picard was working on alliance negotiations with the Romulan Star Empire. One background thing in this simulation was that Cardassians, and Ferengi, had apparently joined the Federation, and were serving in StarFleet

I speculate War Bird is like Earth Ships are called Ships because "Sea of Stars"; Ergo Romulans may imply "Sky of Stars" so all Interplanetary Machines are "Birds" instead of "Ships"... Therefore "War" designations are for "Space Birds" capable of Interplanetary Combat.

The warbird isnt the only ship they forgot to put impulse engines on. Take a look the nebula in TNG The Wounded, no impulse drives on the saucer which always made me insane considering its the exact same saucer type as the galaxy.

They did get around the bird of prey problem by saying that before the Vor'cha class they used a K'Vort class cruiser in TNG (specifically in Defector, Redemption, etc.) They then occasionally used the B'rel class smaller version which is then the staple in DS9.

It’s never explicitly stated, but implied that even Romulan warp drives still use dilithium to moderate the power coming out of the singularity core for use in the warp nacelles. The power might be usable for all other systems without that moderation, but the warp coils need far more finely tuned & consistent power.

Yeah, Warbird is a general term, D'Deridex is the class. Almost like a Galaxy class being a heavy cruiser or something. Then of course there are the smaller Birds of Prey, mainly shown in the 22nd and 23rd centuries (and Lower Decks).
