This video contains a glaring mistake. I live in Hungary, and we know very well that the ruling Fidesz party is as far from being right-wing as it gets. Its economic policy is heavily infused with communist, socialist, and paternalistic elements-not to mention price controls, a planned economy approach, extremely high taxes, and an incredibly bloated and self-serving state bureaucracy. In every measure of left-wing ideology, Fidesz scores high. For the record, there is a right-wing party in Hungary, but it is not represented in Parliament. Their name is 'Down with 75% of Taxes Party,' and they identify as libertarians.

Local referendums, senate elections, EU elections and 20 other elections like we have here in Czechia. 😀 Also, it often happens that highest court says taht election in some villages have to be repeated, so these people spend more time by voting than by working. 😀

As someone from Czechia which is extremely close to Slovakia and the language is almost identical ill explain. In the western Europe left wing parties are usually liberal and proeuropean. But in post-socialist/ex-eastern Europe left wing parties are often mixed with social conservatism, nationalism and euroscepticism. Its like - "we want a big state that will take care of us, we want a lot of things for free, we are conservative (so big no to gay marriage, migrants or soft drugs legal and dont like the EU - its stealing our sovereignity)". These left wing nationally conservative parties are usually voted by older people, pensioneers and socially weaker people - old people tend to be conservative, but also want bigger pensions and free healthcare, free services. And they often dislike EU, idk why, but in CZ or SK EU is liked by younger people, while middle gen is often soft-eurosceptic and old people hard-euroskeptic.

I think they bring simple solutions to complex problems and that it is far easier to follow them but that doesn't help democracy or the people in the long term. It's just a show. You forgot Portugal’s legislative election in March. The center-right coalition won against the previous center-left government. Also, the hard-right quadrupled their seats (12 to 50). That would mean a point for both the right and far right camps, and minus one point for the left camp. This alters entirely the conclusions from your video. I’d sugest you pin a comment with the updated points or redoing the video entirely. Edit: Thank you for the correction video.
@Chrysobubulle
@Chrysobubulle 13 күн бұрын
He also gave 2 points for the left and far left in France claiming they won the snap election, when in reality the left coalition hasn’t won seats enough to govern by themselves, and indeed they haven’t been part of any governments since the snap election, both governments so far have been center right. It’s very hard to distribute points when it comes to France cause: - the left coalition technically has more mp than the other groups, but hasn’t enough to govern or overthrow the government by themselves. - Macron’s center and the “classical” right have technically lost many seats, but in the end, they are still the ones in power - Le Pen Rassemblement National is technically the biggest party in the parliament (the left as more seats as a coalition of parties but no party of the left have more deputy than the far right), they have won many seats. But they aren’t the ones governing. At the same time they are the kingsmaker; the last government fell only because they voted with the left the motion of non confidence. So it’s very hard to tell who won, and actually no one did. But what is sure is that the left didn’t win. And that these two points are a fabrication to manipulate the conclusion of this video, and its audience

@RokasStulga Caputova is originally from my party / Progressive Slovakia and if you look at Hlas policies they are only left-leaning at first glance. In truth, it is a status quo party. Progressivism has the same if not bigger claim to a rising standard of living through state policies as do the pro-business types fixated on rustical ways of delivering social programs. The claim is equal if not greater since social and environmental justice is clearly addressing issues of the poorest and most marginalized communities of this age... You cannot take leftism without emancipation. You would end up just with a totalitarian regime. Exact thing Fico is trying. But he is just a kleptocratic populist, a crony.

11:40 vlaams belang will never govern federally. They are flemish nationalists who oppose the existence of belgium as a state and want complete and total sovereignty over flanders without any federal structure to interfere, because of this, literally all wallonian parties will never have a reason to govern with them as they are opposed on a fundamental level. Furthermore, a ‘cordon sanitaire’ has been placed around them since the ‘80s, where all parties in the federal and flemish parliaments have agreed to never enter a coalition with them (local elections are different because specific local parties are not bound to this agreement as they never signed it).

Something interesting to note with France is that while Macron's party arrived second, this is mostly due to NFP candidates dropping out of the elections to prevent the RN to win. Without this, Macron would have only secured around 66 circonscriptions, almost a third of the seats they ended up winning. This anti RN alliance also benefited the NFP to a lesser extent, with only two third of their seats secured without Macron's candidates dropping out the elections. Finally the RN lost a lot of seats despite representing around a third of electors. This shows that while the far right is gaining support in France, there is still a strong majority of voters who'd take anything over the far right winning. This also shows that the center right despite making up the current government is extremely unpopular nowadays, with only about a 25% aproval rate and even less supporters.

Hey! Overall a pretty informative video. However, I'm from Belgium and I disagree with my country's assessment. In 2019 (our last national election), the far right triple its score and they would have for sure received a point for that. But in 2024, the polls got it wrong ; despite polling 1st for 5 years, Vlaams Belang got beaten by the nationalists N-VA and its leader openly said that he will never negotiate with the far right (contrary to what happened in The Netherlands). In Wallonia, Ensemble (centrist party) got a huge boost, along with MR (right wing) so I'd have given -1 point for the left (the left lost in Wallonia) & +1 for the center and center right. I wouldn't give any point for the far right since they're completely isolated and failed to win in Flanders. Politics in Belgium is a bit complicated but I wanted to give you this more nuanced opinion. In a couple of weeks, we will probably have our next government and it will be 1 left wing party, 2 center parties and 2 right wing parties.

Yeah the demarcations between left and right based only on self identification are extremely inaccurate even as umbrella terms. For example Macron's party in France has seen a huge shift to the right when it comes to discourse and policies, and while they did start off as a typical center liberal economically and socially progressive party, they became more and more conservative even flirting with the far right as they stayed in power. They are currently almost indistinguishable from the PPE supported "les republicains" and even the National Front when it comes to policies. We have to understand that France currently has no major party pushing against homosexual's rights and feminism, but conservatism is currently more noticeable with anti trans, anti islam and anti immigration policies, which is now almost indistinguishable from Macron to the far right. Of course the far right is still separated by posing a pretty big threat to democracy, among other things planning to dismantle our constitutional council, which in practice means that unconstitutional laws could pass, and threatening press independence and freedom by selling out our public press and only keeping a channel to share the regim's view, but even then Macron has lately shown signs of not caring that much about our constitution and our democracy lately, even trying to appeal to the far right to keep the barnier government rather than keeping the alliance with the NFP that brought them so many votes. Macron's whole political discourse has historically been anti-far right, so it's very unlikely that he will soon partner with them, but ideologically he's getting closer and far gone are the days where Macron was considered center leaning, at least in France

I don't think it's the right approach to use parties / presidents declared political alignment. Instead it would've been better to make a list of policies and rank every party / president stance on those policies. Then explain which policies fall under far right, far left, centrist and other ideologies, according to facts (and not opinions). And only then label those parties as left/right/centrist/far, according to their real stance on all policies. Parties can claim to be anything but it doesn't mean they are what they claim to be. If you stick to just labels, DPRK (Northern Korea) is a democratic state, which it isn't. Slovakia's SMER is also not a left party. Furthermore I don't think this binary distinction is accurate nowadays.

Romania being left-leaning it's just weird when the parliament went so smoothly for the right (+9% for AUR + 2 new parties) + same with the president election that everyone know Calin Georgescu would have won and that's why they canceled (They said everything it's fine the first round, as soon as the people from oversea started voting they were like "hmm, they are not voting for the "PRO-EU" and Woke agenda"). So It's simply incorrect to put Romania as left-leaning at the moment, especially with the protests that were/are going on because of the abuse of power and illegal stay of the current wannabe-President. What they failed to mention is the Constitutional Court is made by PSD/PNL people.

Still more people than Elena Lasconi's "PRO-EU" rally. @@crc-d7s You are so wrong I can't believe what I just read. First "Most of the people in the country are happy that the elections were annuled, a disaster was avoided." you are completly wrong. Every poll that was made was showing Calin Georgescu would've have won, statistically speaking it can't be true what you are saying. The only reason they canceled the election it was because they knew who would win and it wasn't their prefered candidates, Elena Lasconi, if it was her winning noone would give 2 cents about this guy and his tik-tok campaign. How can you say that when more than half of the voters were not happy with the election being cancelled. Second " there were protests of like 20k people in Bucharest, not so many." Let's say they were only 20k, we don't know the numbers exactly, AUR says were more than 100k, the left media says way less and the authorities are somewhat around tens of thousands. Why weren't this many people for the "PRO-EU", "PRO-WOKE" rally that Elena Lasconi organized after all the propaganda against Calin Georgescu? You are just delusional.

it's increasingly difficult to rely on left/right divide when it comes to politics. In case of Lithuania for example, where a left-leaning party has won in the parliamentary elections, our governemnt will likely remain relatively conservative compared to what "left-leaning" looks like in say Western Europe and that's due to the fact that our society itself is more conservative in comparison. The "conservative left" term that's been popping up more these days does a decent job painting a clearer picture of what's going on. 😅

Too bad politics are damn subjective, while some for some reason see the German CDU as conservative, others see them as far left (tho I would say they're just spineless). For example what is the Polish Pis party? I heard some say they're socialist, other that they are right wing. For all I know, parties that are called "conservative" lean more to the left nowadays. It also depends on the society, a party that would be right wing in Europe, would be seen as left wing in Japan or Israel. Like, von der Leyen is FAR from the right, having destroyed the German army during her time as the minister. The coming month with the election in Germany gonna be interesting. Let us see as the CDU forms a coalition with far left parties

One small update about Bulgaria's elections. It may be possible for a government to be formed between center-right GERB-SDS party, far-left BSP party, center-right ITN party and center-left DPS-DPS party. However, most people think it's a loss for Bulgaria as a whole since all of these parties are accused of participating in corruption and there many corruption scandals surrounding them. Overall, if this coalition succeeds and a functioning government is formed this will be a win for the status-quo parties and a loss for the so-called protest-parties that held huge protests in 2020 against the status-quo parties (with the exception of ITN, who were part of the protests). That being said, I don't think your categorization on the left-right spectrum reflects accurately the parties' actual affiliations. It is more accurate to use a political compass, which shows both the economic left-right spectrum as well as the social conservative-progressive spectrum. This would explain how 2 center-right parties, 1 far-left and 1 center-left party can try and form a coalition in Bulgaria. That's because 3 of these 4 parties are conservative and the last one claims to be liberal but hasn't shown much devotion in that direction. So it's basically a win for the conservatives in Bulgaria (one of which is the far-left Socialists BSP party).
