Is the writing similar to the writing in Daughter of the Moon Goddess? Because I just finished that book, and I felt that it was a bit too descriptive, bordering on 😬. And for the first half, nothing was really happening, imo. It read like typical YA.

So happy to see you back in my subscription feed :) Since you loved "As long as the lemon trees grow" i think you would love "Map of Salt and Stars". Its also about the Syrian revolution and we follow an eight year old girl as she tries to survive with her family. It describes the entire refugee experience, the horror that comes with it. Along with the historical bit, we parallelly follow a fantasy story about another Syrian girl and how she navigated a world that's so cruel. The thing that the book did best was to show the beauty as well as the horrors of human and human life, it showed the contrast and the consequences. The writing is very beautiful and lyrical. I would describe the writing as "sad, beautiful, tragic" Hope you pick it up and love it as much as I did!!

I feel the same as you with Spare. I thought Harry pulled his punches too much when criticizing aspects of the royal family and their policies. There were also plenty of things that could have been cut. But talking about his childhood, the trauma of losing his mother so young, and the trauma of constantly having your life under global scrutiny were really strong and emotional. Dude clearly loves his wife too, which good for him. Last Tale of the Flower Bride was also a good read for me too. I didn't expect to love it so much, but it really took ahold of me and I could not put it down. The writing was just beautiful and I loved every second of it.
