"If it feels good, and you can achieve your goals, it is correct" I wish more teachers and mentors would say this. There's such a thing as troublesome method and practice, but if you achieve your goal you're doing it right. That's a like from me
@warrengamameilhardin2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. Drummers can accelerate wrist decay by holding the palms facing sideways. Palms should face the ceiling, it's more natural movement, less strain, and more efficient. There is a legitimate reason for these 'troublesome' techniques. Thankfully I've never experienced fried wrists but plenty of drummers have, so why start out from the get-go with a bad habit?
@Eclipsed_Archon2 жыл бұрын
@@warrengamameilhardin hadn't even considered that but it's a really good point. Guess there's usually a good reason for it when people stick to one method like this, experts tend to know what they're talking about. Thank you for explaining it, I never would have known.

Think of it this way...Athletes still warm-up with basics and practice the fundamentals of their sport (to maintain their edge and to make those fundamentals habits). Professional musicians still do lang tones, scales etc., for the exact same reasons. Percussionists should as well (besides they are fun to play).....I too am a 35 year player (started when I was 12, now I'm 47)!
@benjaminkenobi215 жыл бұрын
Not sure about superb technique... his traditional grip is a tad weak. No hating here, but most any intermediate corps-style player could out-drum him, rudimentarily. Who knows, he may just be relaxing it for the slower tempo or the simpler rudiments. He may shape it up some when actually playing music. I agree that it's a good video and a good demo overall.

My son marched and now teaches the same drum corps. Get all the info. After mastering that tempo on all the rudiments increase tempo just short of sloppy sound until it is mastered and sounds clean, smooth and level in volume. Oh it will help believe me. Especially the flam rudiments if you do them on the tom toms as well. For the rolls, add in the hi hat foot and kick drums at the same time and go from single stroke quarter note to double stroke eight note to double stroke sixteenth note to double stroke thirty second note - and then repeat backwards while keeping kick drum on one and three and hi hat foot on two and four. It sounds complicated but it's not if you start slow and build up.

I decided this year I need to really improve my drumming and start working on stick work on a pad. Rudiments are something i keep meaning to work on, but never get round to as its not easy to find free resource online in a comprehensive and informative package. This video is just that and straight to the point. I will be using this from now on to develop my sticking and speed. Many thanks for taking the time to create and share this valuable information.

Single stroke seven sounds like something we would use in the Highland Pipe Band i used to be with. I played the tenor drum

Brilliant exercises, so clear and precise, but a lot to take in, practice and patience is all that's needed.

Thank you SO much for this. Notation is easy to find but being able to watch and listen makes a world of difference. I'm busy learning so I can teach my kids who both wannabe bang them skins.
