The fans played a role but according to the European Commission there was NO LEGAL IMPEDIMENT to the proposed football Superleague following a recent ruling by the European Court on a dispute between professional speed skaters and the International Skating Union. So had we still been in the EU the UK's legal power to prevent English clubs joining the Superleague would have been limited. The best thing about football is that you could be sitting ten thousand miles away from the home of the club and still feel the same feelings that a fan sitting in the stadium feels. The sport is the best (in my opinion), but that's not the only reason. The football community is so strong. The fans truly love the game and will unite against anything that tries to denigrate it. I felt that as a 11-year old sitting in south India watching from my old box television set. I've grown 20 years older, but that feeling of watching your team win a football match hasn't changed.

It is going to happen. It is inevitable. The idea behind Champions League was to secure that the biggest clubs wouldnt be left out of the biggest tournament because of not winning the championship. Instead of Champions only, now you had all major clubs in a mini league. Fans loved the idea, because fans are greedy, hedonistic people themselves and didnt want to be deprived of Barcelona, Real, MANU, Milan etc. This is the inevitable next step to that, for now these teams have grown so big, have become such giant corporations, they cant afford to not have a secure gallizion money made each year. Unless fans accept that less is more, pro foootball will keep progressing in pure money making terms.
