It’s kind of funny watching BT Sports and Sky Sports act high and mighty when they are the one that took the game away from the fans. I remember when the ucl was free to watch for English clubs on ITV until these companies paid obscene money to buy the rights.

Yes this was the european cup when champions entered the league like celtic rangers, benfica, porto, ajax, dynamo kiev who have been in europe cosistantly as champions and have to go through 2/3 qualifiers before entry with limited money but english teams have top 6 teams who are just richer and the super league teams have auto entry and are seeded which means they have played easy teams at the start.now there will be a willy wonka league

You are 100% right. I have cancelled my sky package £79 a month, and it was going up to £85. Nearly £1,000 a year to pay these footballers , who are over paid. When a policeman or a nurse earns £30,000 a year, and a top footballer takes home five times that amount in one week. Society has gone mad.

Fans stop buying merch and buy no tickets. Workers go on strike; Managers & players resign / terminate their contracts. What then for the USL? No one to watch, no one to play. This is a very unrealistic plan, but its not impossible. Mourinho already sacked. Hassenhutl condemned the USL. If the players all unanimously disagree and condemn the USL, they wont even play.

@@anneeq008 clearly like most of the struggling potheads does not realise how simple business fucking works. UEFA and Fifa two of the most corrupt organisations have created a monopoly industry like how sky did not to long ago. Having another competition creates consumer based competition. Without it BT was almost on the verge of pushing £15-20 tv matches to handle increase of business model suppliments. Also clubs can now "hopefully" *IF NOT IS WRONG* reduce ticket costs growing exponetially. Also Uefa steal investment of funds to grass roots worth 3.3 billion. - Another reason being supply is increased to meet demand. No longer will people pay near a grand to watch real madrid. It brings supply up to help meet demand. - Does it take away from excitement yeah but realistically those top 6 premier league clubs and other european clubs on average consistently enter CL or EL anyways. - The top clubs are bleeding money. 500 million lost last year for Man U for example.

I kind of agree, but he's definitely underestimating just how terribly this could go. Yes, UEFA and FIFA are corrupt institutions, but its the lesser of two evils. This will kill domestic football and grassroots football. These clubs will become touring clubs, where real fans cannot afford to buy tickets to friendlies, let alone to games against Madrid and Barca. He's downplaying it as a 'power move', but if it isn't then accessible football for the fans will be dead.

Sorry guys, but whatever the backlash is, this is going to go ahead. The clubs involved in this are rich enough to have employed the best lawyers to analyse the legal implications of this. The Premier League, UEFA, FIFA, etc would not have come out and condemned it publicly if they didn't already know there is no legal means to prevent this from happening. $6,000,000,000 has already been committed by JP Morgan for this project to go ahead. It doesn't mean that this money has been invested, but this amount of money would not have been accrued if there was a significant chance of this project not going ahead. Everybody can speak up against it, but at the end of the day, BT Sport and Sky, as well as all the other broadcasters around the world, will invest in broadcasting this Super League. The fans of the clubs, no matter how much they hate this idea, will end up watching the games. Neutral fans will watch this as much as they watch the Champions League. Because, if you wanted to watch neutral continental football, would you rather watch Real Madrid vs Man City every week, or Porto v Dortmund? People will call for a boycott, but how often do boycotts work? FIFA and UEFA have stated that any players involved will not be allowed into the Euros or World Cup, but this is an empty threat. The idea of hosting such prestigious tournaments without the best players will just devalue the competition. And would the players rather play for their clubs on a permanent basis, earning tonnes of money, or would they sacrifice that for the sake of a maximum of 7 games every two years? PSG, Dortmund and Bayern have so far refrained from joining the agreement, but eventually they'll succumb to the huge loss of revenue and will have to decide whether they wish to wither away like the rest of football, or remain afloat by joining the Super League. We can cry and moan about it all we want, but the initial backlash will die down. People react to things, but eventually they'll learn to live with it, and eventually embrace it. The older generation (this includes the younger generation of today), will eventually grow old and die off, and the new generation will only know this format. Face it, it's happening.

@ceejay1872 #55 If you don't give your money to these assholes, they will start eating the costs. None of these bastards are funding these teams out of love. They do it because they find it more profitable to exploit the team's fans. If those fans stop giving the team money and stage marches in front of the stadiums etc, that will have an effect. Because make no mistake, these rich assholes can handle a big loss of revenue but they don't like to do so. They will bail as soon as their evil plan stop working and they move on to the next platform they can exploit.

As much as I agree fans could stop this, the problem is they won’t. If everyone in the uk said they wouldn’t watch or pay for it, it’s merely a drop in the ocean compared to the money coming in from the global markets. The premier league began the business side of football, which had its merits let’s not all forget that, but the problem is once that ball began rolling it was never gonna stop. In business there is no such thing as “enough money” and the game will continue to get ripped apart and commercialised as long as there is a market for it. Football is not yet dead, but it’s on its last legs

Oh, but Florentino Perez said that 4 billion would have watched it! _ _ _ Only, 4 billion happens to be more than half the population of the entire Earth! Only a delusional fool would think that anywhere close to that sort of number will ever watch football in total, never mind that just a fraction of the real total of football fans would have watched the European Shite League, or whatever it was going to be called! Loads of fans of included clubs were threatening to boycott it, virtually no fans of excluded clubs would have watched it and many neutrals would have soon tired of the dull, repetitive nature of it! Also, many of the sad, plastic, glory hunters, who have latched onto most of the ESL clubs (sometimes to the displeasure of their long term fans!), would have drifted off to pastures new, as their chosen club's supply of silverware dried up!

FIFA, UEFA, the FA, PL, all these organisations have bent over for the likes of United and Liverpool, as well as other so called “elite clubs” in Europe, for years and years. The current format is bent, never mind this new one. I’ve been a season ticket holder at City since the 1990s and never have been so disillusioned with the game. The sad thing is when UEFA and the cartel of elite clubs tried to illegally throw us out of the competition, I thought we would retain the moral high ground, now we’ve jumped into bed with the same clubs that have ruined football for everyone.
