In my playthrough she went to Avernus with Wyll, and at the epilogue she had hope that she had a promising lead to fix her engine. So my head canon is that she eventually fixes it, Wyll becomes the new Duke Ravengard and takes Karlach as his duchess and they rule Baldur's gate together after killing a ton of evil in the hells 😂

I got a super weird ending that was not displayed here. I upgraded her engine and Wyll became the Blade of Avernus but since my character was Astarion, he did a zig-zag run out of the sun before the Karlach cutscene. This resulted in her doing the "goodbye"-speech alone and then blowing up with Wyll reaching for her but failing to do anything about it.

It's actually sad to see the quest unfold when we kill Carlach on behalf of her pursuers in Act 1. The protagonist literally holds her severed head in the cutscene. I was horrified when I watched all the options for the development of the plot of her.

Of any characters deserving and needing a good ending, Karlach was it. Betrayed, sold yet always up to fight for the good of others. Fucked by life doesn’t begin to describe her whole experience. Yet, I feel like the best ending remains if you follow her with Wyll to Avernus. At least you get to stay together, and she can be rid of the loneliness part. And if there is any possibility that Larian could release a short DLC I would definitely petition that we get as new objective to find Karlach’s heart make her whole again. Then it’s all about escaping the hells another time. One can only wish. For a “hot” minute I almost thought we could use the crown for that, but nvm.

It's the best ending because she gets what she wants, really: to go out on her own terms, fighting side by side with friends, not with a whimper, but a bang that'll shake the fields of avernus. Also Zariel is probally scared shitless because by the time Wyll, Tav, and karlach reach her....They'll all be level 20 probally

The "Resurrect True" spell has in its description that it restores lost limbs/organs/entire body if needed. I wonder why Whithers couldn't do that for Karlach. Or just any priest who can cast a level 9 spell. This could be done even after her death by burning after the final battle. All you needed for that is a diamond worth nore than 25k gold. Wtf, game, i had like 40k in chest at the end, wouldnt think for a moment to spend it all to get her back...

@@Kosheyaka Guaranteed they will release a Definitive Edition which will add all of the cut content back into the game that will allow you to get better/different endings. They did the same thing with the Divinity Original Sin games as well. It's only a matter of time. Hopefully by then we will have several more bug fixes to fix performance issues in Act 3 and the memory leak problem, and full mod support. Even better is if we get an Act 4 somehow...like all the events of Act 3 get split in half maybe? (Because there is a LOT of quests to do in BG)

There are more endings for Karlach which aren't currently available because the area you need to go to in order to trigger them was removed from the game EXTREMELY late in production (like, during the last month before release), meaning that you can't properly flag her storyline as completed and get the "good" endings where she remains as a tiefling.

Larians style when it comes to storys and the people in them is skewed hard. They love evil barstads that gets ''redeemed'' later down the line, and good people die, hard, in their settings. Had the same issue in Divinity 2, all the charecters there where utter arseholes. Yes, even Lohse is a arse, she willingly exposes other people to danger because of her '' i dont give a crap '' mentality, its immature and offputting. Expect no less from Larian Studios, this is how they like it.

(Cazador's mansion, for example, was supposed to be in the upper city, not just... perched on top of a wall.)

Karlach going to Avernus witb Tav is my personal good ending for her. Even without Illithid powers, Tav and Karlach are extremely powerful warriors who even managed to beat a devil. While Raphael is not even close to be as strong as characters like Zariel, I think if Tav and Karlach do not try to intervere with higher forces, they have nothing in hell to fear. Also if you rescued hope you not only have another ally, but also a nice place to stay 😊

I'm kinda curious about Raphael's relative powerscaling. He might not be as strong in traditional sense, but he has some wild shit going for him: - He's the Mephistopheles' child. - He's very good at this whole Devil thing - even through the game we can see how well he plots, how he expands his forces, we even help him recruit one of the assets - and no matter what we do, he ends up being recruited. - His fight has one tiny, tiiiny thing that might be game-changer. "Ascended Fiend". I've yet to find any info on that, but if you put it on the same relativity scale as "Vampire - Ascended Vampire" it changes everything. It will also justify his whole power plot and ability to efficiently use Crown to it's fullest.

@@seeinredI mean he needed the Crown of Karsus- the most potent magical artifact ever created by a wide, wide margin- to get the nerve to make a move against Zariel. Beating him definitely makes Tav and company look pretty tough, but it's definitely wishful thinking to hope they would be able to kill Zariel on her home turf. It's all headcannon so as far as you're concerned whatever seems the coolest can be what happened, but based off the DnD source material it's basically impossible for Tav, Karlach and Wyll to kill Zariel in Avernus. *Maybe* Ascended Astarion, Crown of Karsus Gale and Chosen of Bhaal Durge could pull it off, but Karlach and Wyll without his pact are pretty much the two weakest members of the party by the end of the game lol

Cause she's annoying af. The main complaint I have with this game other than act 3, is the fact so many people in the game are so "good"... No one seems like a badass at all, despite most these people having been warriors/soldiers most their lives, no one seems like they've even been in a fight. Especially people like Karlach and the other tieflings.... Literally from hell, demons, devils, and they're unrealistically all sweet and nice except Zevlor whos semi like a real character.

Aside from their blood, there's nothing even remotely devilish on them, their actions are their own and they aren't compelled to evil by anything other than sometimes society treating them like trash. Your view on them summarized the average citizen's impression on Tieflings and I don't even blame you for that. Most people in-universe think they're just devils, when they are, in fact, not at all.

Astarian is pure evil, will delight in random killings and the like, Gale is a goody two shoes, Wyll is a goody two shoes, Shadowheart is probably the best because she isnt quite as one sided but still good leaning. Minthera pure evil, Laezel evil leaning with random goodness that feels out of character (helping the lady in the burning building because "soldiers good"). No neutral characters except maybe shadowheart.

​@@Sdogofdoom I had the opposite problem with it, none of the characters are pure good maybe except Shadowheart after her redemption. Gale is a power hungry fool thinking he's good but actually easily manipulated and is just narcissistic overall, he never thinks of others and always self-centred. Karlach, is the most kind hearted amongst the group but also power hungry, has that weapon mentality where she always has to kill and is pretty much an anti-hero. Which I think is cool but doesn't go well if you're going for a pure good playthrough. Wyll is also self centered and is a fool for heroic approach, he doesn't care much about the cost if it means he gets to play the hero. Lae'zel is a fascist alien who always thinks her race is always right, and if they're wrong then it's because someone else from her race is right. Astorion and Minthera are just pure evil. There's not a single character who is a true good person, they're all wrapped up in their own worlds and are too obsessed with themselves and their perspective. Which makes a lot of sense for the narrative, and pretty cool overall to see them try to do everything just to survive but it would also be really cool to have a single pure good character. We have like two pure evil characters so why not a single pure good companion? Still, it's just my own nitpicking so can't really blame anyone for it.

@@MilliardoVD Datamined content shows that not only did Karlach have a full ending where her infernal engine was fixed and that she survived, but that most of it was fully voiced and complete. However it required triggers from the Upper City portion of Baldur's Gate and when that was cut, so was Karlach's Act 3 storyline. What we have behind have been confirmed to be Karlach's "fail state" endings which were meant to only play if the player neglected her quest chain.

After you kill Raphael and if Karlach with you, you can say "Karlach, how about you stay here?" and she answers like "I dont want to stay a minute more in Hells, lets go back please. Well, there's technically no reason we couldn't remove the parasites from the beginning of the game. They flee the body on death, so the party could just take turns killing and resurrecting each other after the parasite flees. The story is good, but that's a HUGE plot hole.

I think I had a similar ending to 4, although I upgraded her infernal engine (at least I think so). But I didn't play with Wyll, he died before I met him in act 1 and I didn't want to resurrect him. In my case, the one who asked about her at the end was Shadowheart. Karlach also didn't appear there in the final scene saying "it's over" or among the companions who help in the previous battle

Larian said doing anything past level 12 would be very problematic. 7th circle spells can affect world in ways they coudn't possibly account for, such as planar travel, or regeneration spells. Get to level 17, and you could wish to have Karlach's problem solved.

For me I'd just be happy with a patch that adds a more expansive epilogue post-Netherbrain battle that shows what happened to all the companions and primary characters and the rest of Faerun that we passed through (such as showing how the lands around Moonrise Tower look if we cured it of the shadow curse), and that they they expand Karlach's quest that actually lets us fix her engine involving the Enriched Infernal Steel that some Steel Watch units dropped and the Gondians doing their super-engineering magic to fix the engine with those materials, giving even more reason to save them from the Foundry as well a better reward for destroying it/eliminating the Steel Watch. Give me those things, and this would be my game of the decade easily.

I had my first Seltharine Drow Elf Bard romance Lae'Zel, then left her for Minthara (I can fix her moment (? ), went on to fix Karlarchs engine in Act 2 (yeah u can do that if u didnt find Dammon in Act 1, spare minthara by knocking her out with non-lethal and rescuing her in moonrise) and when the time came, Wyll had become the blade of avernus and I left Minthara alone in this world to accompany both Wyll and Karlach into Avernus. No regrets, at all (and at the meeting Minthara tells that u could at least write a letter to her lmao) best ending I could've thought of

I finished the game an hour ago. I didn't romance Karlach, Wyll did not become the blade of Avernus and I upgraded her engine and I still took her to Avernus. Not sure what I did differently but I was very happy her and I get to kick butt in Avernus.

I would have loved an option even if really hard, to fix her engine so she'd have a happy ending without fighting - she had enough of fighting in the hells. I wish that maybe Orpheus had a wish spell saved for her or something, or one of the gods we got on the right side with would restore her to her former self before she even got the engine placed in her.

Throughout the game, I took her saying "I would rather die here, in the place I love; than living here (Avernus), in a place that I hate" as gospel from her. She didn't want to go back. Ever. Period. But, after seeing this, it is heavily implied that her reason for feeling this way stemmed from two things: 1) She didn't want to be found, bested, and controlled again by Zariel. She hated every minute of it. 2) She didn't want to have to endure that alone. She was lonely, and would rsther die with her friends at her side than live in hell by herself. Even without Zariel ever finding her. Although some of these endings being better than the orher are mostly subjective, I feel that the best ending for her is her going back to Avernus with Wyll (if you don't romance her) or going back with you, and at least finding love and continuing to experience it. Either way, her best ending is not being alone. Even ehen she dies, she sounds MOSTLY content, but... There was a hint of regret in there, as well So, I think that her hearing Wyll or you offering to go with her makes her want to keep living. Because someone she loves is offering to go with her. For Wyll, it works out, because he wants to hunt Mizora and other devils anyways. For you, it would work out because you get to be with her. Although, personally, no one is worth going to hell for. Sorry, Karlach. I like being in this realm. I romanced Shadowheart, so I was fine with her living with Wyll in Avernus.Also, I always thought that Wyll and Karlach should hook up; and this ending seems oerfect for them. What beautiful irony that would be: Wyll was hired by a devil to hunt her; only to defy said devil, and he was turned into a half-devil himself because of it. Then, they become inseparable and go to hell together because of common interests; and ultimately fall in love and stay together in hell. That actually sounds beautiful for both of them. Although, I am torn about Wyll not becoming Duke; because he would have been a superb Duke and been so much better for the people than what they had bwfore. But, honestly, most of the people of Baldur's Gate are grimey people to begin with and don't even deserve a great ruker like him. Halsin even said it himself... You can judge a group of people best by how they treat their weakest and the ones in need. If there is so much hate and disregard for others, then Baldur's Gate may not be worth it for Wyll. If anyone read all of that until the end, then, damn... Props for sticking it out with me and my subjective opinion. Ultimately, I adored both Karlach and Wyll as people and they just seemed happiest together in Avernus with mutual goals and a possibility of romance.

You are perfectly right regarding her motivations and fears. First point is comprehensively laid out in her many dialogues in Act 1, right after u recruit her and kill the fake Paladyns. The topic of loneliness and living in solitude is expanded on mostly when u romance her, otherwise there are smaller bits here and there including "Fucking Loneliness" part, during rage after killing Gortash, but in general its not as exposed as the mantra of rather die than go back to Avernus. Understandably not everyone gonna remember the important moments and lines for every character so people could often trivialize their decision based on recency bias or misunderstanding, but i think that if one will put minimal effort to try understand the source of her grief, the reasoning based simply on the backstory should naturally lead to that 2 points. Another point i would add is that since she never had a chance to experience true love and friendship, while her hatred for Avernus being so immense, she cannot fathom a scenario when someone would go back with her. Hence in Act 3 she's preparing player for the worst, and doesnt wanna think about anything other than fighting the task at hand . The offer from Wyll/Tav at the docks is shocking for her, but utlimately it leads to finding new reasons to live and fight. The dialogues from Patch 5 epilogue really reinforce it : " You really can get thru anything with someone you love by your side" , "You showed me just how much my life is worth. That there are people out there who really value it." Interestingly you can experience this from her perspective in the Origin playthrough. The engine doesnt immediately overheat at the docks, there's implied time for celebrations in Elfsong Tavern. The following morning, romanced companion will offer to join her in Avernus. Dialogues for each of them are quite convincing and true to their character. I dont agree with, "no one is worth going to hell for". For someone in relationship this is definitely the way to go. If you dont romance anyone in the game you can join Wyll Blade and Karlach to increase their chances in succeding their goals. Its the DnD, Avernus is only the first layer of hells, its horrible but its not the end of the world especially if u are lvl 12 and can hold off Zariel servants had she send another ones, besides even without Patch 5 extended epilogue (finding the blueprints for Zariel's private Forge,) , the trip back to Avernus was meant to be temporary until friends from material plane (ie Dammon) would learn more about infernal machinery. (The knowledge of the engine is available all the time with the Gondians anyway, but Larian simply ignored it).

It happens if you choose to not let her examine Gortash or if you don't upgrade her engine at all. The 3rd Act is extremely buggy, and depending on your party make-up and whether or not you've completed everyone's personal questlines, it triggers different dialogs for the 3 minute post-brain wrap up. ***SPOILERS AHEAD*** _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ That's where the rumored "17,000 lines of ending dialog" came from. Most everyone is going to experience a *slightly* different ending. In the two I've personally completed, I romanced Lae'zel, but also romanced Karlach. I never broke up with either of them, but leaned more towards Lae'zel and received all the available romance camp scenes---and as a result, Lae'zel chose to stay with me instead of hopping on a dragon and taking the fight to Vlaakith. However---I didn't get the additional romance scene where you chat with her about "what to do next." That scene was seemingly replaced by Wyll and Karlach, with Karlach proclaiming her love for my character, then immediately leaving with Wyll to Avernus without a second thought. I guess she figured since I had Lae'zel, it was cool. Shadowheart didn't even have a single line of dialog, despite me completing her entire story arc in the most positive way possible. Astarian ran away as he burst into flames, as if played for laughs, completely undermining his intense and wonderfully performed redemption arc. Minsc was somewhere in the background, but must've spotted a butterfly, because he also had nothing to say. Gale had bugged out, pulling a complete 180 stating he was going to become a god after he fishes the Karsus Crown outta the Chionthar, but he'd be happy to make me one of his Chosen---this was after all of our prior conversations were geared towards him returning it to Mystra. My party for the final fight was Lae'zel, Jaheira, Gale, and my custom character. I made one minor change in my second ending, I swapped out Gale for Astarian. This changed nothing with my final scenes involving Lae'zel and Karlach, I still did not get a final romance scene with Lae'zel despite getting the big lovey-dovey moment with her during Act 3. Karlach still left with Wyll. Gale returned to his original not-crazy state of returning the crown to Mystra (maybe bringing him at first was a bad idea? Who knows). Minsc proclaimed that Boo proclaimed we're double-heroes. Shadowheart made a passing remark about having earned a respite when I suggested we throw a party. Jaheira asked where Astarian had ran off to---so, I suppose by bringing him to the final fight, he dipped like right away. Very minor changes to the ending dialog, but I did absolutely nothing different aside from bring a different character to the final fight. I honestly believe that the ending dialogs are largely pulled from a randomized pool of statements heavily weighted based on your romance choices. I believe others who have completed the game can corroborate that, as I've seen people mention characters making bizarre statements out of sequence during that ending scene. Overall, Larian has a lot of work to do. The ending is a buggy, convoluted mess, where you're railroaded into making one of two bad decisions which ultimately don't matter either way because there's no follow-up on anything outside of the 3 minute dockside wrap-up. No title crawl, no lore cards, nada. Textbook bad DMing. Supposedly there is a mountain of cut content that people are hopeful Larian will patch in (including the means to properly save Karlach), but I'm not holding my breath.

So sad. I honestly hope Tav/TDU (maybe as a mind flayer even? lol) + Wyll + Karlach in Avernus is the expansion being considered. That sounds like the one reasonable high level adventure after all the power crazyness in the base game. Lae'zel goes with Orpheus, Gale rebuilds and gives the Crown to Mystra, becoming her chosen for that. Shadowheart is the one looser end in this. But all of them could be part of the story at some point. Hope and her house fit in very nicely in this as a base of operations and connection to the material plane. And the story could further explore Zariel, Mizora, etc.

I used to hate the Avernus ending and was kinda mad at Larian not giving us a good ending for Karlach, but the more I think about it...that IS the good ending. Karlach and her once sworn enemy the Blade of Frontiers (and me because I can't resist going after the patch) working through her trauma and taking the fight directly to Mizora. It's honestly the best ending ever. The endings that really need fixing are the Astarion ones. He's either doomed to live in the shadows or doomed to be a prick forever.

The whole point was that once Astarion actually faces his inner demons he accepts himself for who he is and that sticking to the shadows is just a part of him now. He doesnt do that when he ascennds. Instead he just strives for more power to never feel this hurt again, which ironically enough are Cazadors footsteps.

Karlachs story in act three primarily took place in the "upper city" zone, a zone that you may notice is not in the game. Thats because it was all, ALL cut lat moment. Meaning all her "good ending" got cut to. She had a good ending, but it got scrapped (at least for now) due to time constraints. They will prob fix it at some point.

Tadpoles kill the host, its not Karlach/Tav/Orpheus anymore they are dead. The tadpole literally consumes the brain of the host during transformation. What's left is the Mind Flayer aberration with vestige of the persona from consumed brain.
