How can you miss Virtua Racing on this list? 8 Player Split Screen is an absolute riot!!! There's also an 8 player Pengo multiplayer game, but it was Japanese only (and also only physical).

Thanks! Many that I hadn't heard before. It's shockingly difficult to find which games in the nintendo store support more than 4 (and whether it's local or online play). I did notice you missed Octafight though. I haven't picked it up yet but it does support 8 local players. Cheers!

I’m glad there are Switch games out there that allow groups of more than 4 players to play at once. It’s one of the reasons that make the Nintendo Switch stand out amongst its competitors.

@@obscuristgaming it’s kind of a racing game with weapons, where you need to find the shortest path to win. I like it because it’s, easy to learn but hard to master.

I know it’s late but the Moment you realize it’s local multiplayer not online multiplayer. gang beast only do 4 in local and 8 online so doesn’t count

@@kyle2375 Your reply prompted me to go try again and seems it’s no longer possible to do 8 as we had before. We have never played gang beast online. But we have played 6-8 players locally many times about a year ago when the original post was made. You can still play 6 locally, but 5/6 must be controllers (not joycons). When I try to join as # 7 with a controller, it removes one. So I’d say this is a 6 player game locally. What a disappointment. The game is still a blast, but we originally purchased the game only because it was 8 players local.

Yeah once you get down to 6 players, the list starts to expand like crazy too, but just wanted to highlight a couple of my favorites there! I’ll definitely check out Astro Duel! Thanks for sharing! And I’ll look into it for sure, if there’s enough interest- the research on it becomes somewhat of a gargantuan task.

Ok....so excuse my ignorance but "on 8 joy cons" translates to having 4 Nintendo Switches, right? Or can you buy extra joy cons to add to one Switch console? Do I need 4 copies of the each game if they are all in the same room? Trying to figure out the specs for a library gaming program and I only personally own a xbox. Help!

Nope, 1 switch console with 1 game can support up to 12 joycons if the developers decide to. All these games are 1 console, 1 game, 6-12 joycons

It should be possible for switch in docked mode to connnect via LAN and play local multiplayer if the game supports it! Cortect?

Yes! But only a small handful of games support it- it’s way more common for switch games to have local wireless play, than a LAN mode.

@@obscuristgaming Thanks alot! I thought it was only possible with PS3, Xbox 360 and the originial Xbox! So i buy the lan adapter, put it in the back USB port in the dock, and connect it via Lan cable to the lan hub and off we go?? If this is really true... PRAY FOR METROID PRIME 4 MULTIPLAYER!!!

Yes I think so, but because of input lag, it would be easier/better just to have 8 people connect to a single Switch.
