Beneath the Planet of the Apes is awesome to me. I love the idea of continuing the original story with the same characters and same environments while integrating a ton of weird supernatural stuff that doesn't make any sense. The movie is kinda like if you watched the first movie and then have a wild dream that night where you continue the plot in your head...

1. War (masterpiece. Andy Serkis deserved an Oscar nomination) 2. Original (Charlton Heston is great, effects were great for the time, one of the best twists ever) 3. Dawn (Beautifully shot. Serkis is great. Jason Clarke and Keri Russell are really underrated in it) 4. Rise (pretty good, good acting and visuals, but the dialogue is really corny in a lot of places. Tom Felton is really great too) 5. Escape (the definition of just a movie. Completely average) 6. Tim Burton version (terrible, but fascinatingly terrible and fun to watch when you’re drunk) 7. Beneath (see above. The nuclear stuff is funny to me) 8. Battle (don’t like this one at all. It’s so badly written and shot) 9. Conquest (might be the most heavy handed movie I’ve ever seen, it’s almost offensively bad with how the writing is)

The best to least best: 1) Dawn of the planet of the apes 2) War of the Planet of the apes 3) Rise for the planet of the apes All these films are amazing. I would say this is a perfect trilogy. The way the story is developed is done fantastically. The story in every film is so entertaining and compelling. Great emotion and themes. You understand every characters motivations. It's great how the apes aren't just attacking for the sake of it. It comes because of understandable conflicts and different point of views. Caeser is a great character who goes on an amazing journey from a baby to a leader. Andy serkis does a spectacular job. The music throughout the trilogy is also amazing. Captures the tone perfectly.

I haven`t seen the new franchise so I'm just going for the rank for original on mine 5. Beneath the planet of the apes 1970 There are some bad pota moments, but this one just eh, it didn't make me feel so HOLY CRAP because I kinda knew it was going to happen, a lot of people think battle is the worst, but I think it's beneath, although I don't hate the movie. 4. Battle for the planet of the apes 1973 Although it's mostly consider the weakestm , I actually liked this one a lot, especially the beginning with the base, loved it, although in my opinion it felt like.... eh , it didn't really fit with the actual film, although no matter what it's better than beneath. 3. Escape from the planet of the apes 1972 The 3rd in the franchise is actual great, it was only bad because we'll, there's no other apes, like battle it doesn't fit, like at all, and that at the end it's all just dark, every ape except for ceaser is dead. 2. Planet of the apes 1968 Nothing wrong about this one, I loved it the most of all 60s film I saw if you want to know the truth, it has plenty of scenes that make you go waaaaaaaaaaa , and that I will always love it. And number 1... You saw in my last comment, conquest of the planet of the apes. 1. Conquest of the planet of the apes 1972 Here we are, in my opinion one of the greatest films ever made, there's awesome fights, the apes finally take their rage out, even though it's the shortest in my opinion it's extraordinary. I love it and it would go at 5 on greatest films ever made, just for me. Theres my list for original. When I see the new ones I will make this list [I did see war but I feel putting it here just would not make sense, but it's probably a 3.]

@thevanishingsaxon6634 жыл бұрын
1) RISE 2) DAWN (Lion King, with apes) 3) WAR (Schindler's list, with apes) Yeah, I like them in the order they were released, but all are about a 4/5 rating, imo. RISE provided a really interesting origin story. I felt it was important to give Caesar a human family because ultimately it did help shape his perspective of the world he lived in with humans, especially later on when he sees that not all humans are the same. And I loved the very ending where they reveal the simian flu and the foreshadowing of the events to come. Can't really say much more about this one, but it is a great film. DAWN was a lot darker in tone and more serious. It was just an emotional rollercoaster. You want things to work out between humans and apes so badly, but it just doesn't happen. That being said, it felt like a Lion King rip off sometimes, complete with a villain that had scarred up face (Koba). And I felt that every line Caesar or Koba said was completely predictable. Also got tired of Caesar yelling for no damn reason for the first 20 minutes of the film. I did like Gary Oldmans character, he wasn't really a bad guy per se, he did have good intentions even if his methods were questionable. I was also really glad they developed Maurice's character as a sort of moral compass who had a genuine interest in learning about humans and learning how to speak and read. And I also enjoyed Blue Eyes character, as he's exposed to the harshness of growing up and feeling completely torn within his place amongst the apes after Koba takes over and he begins to question who's good and who's bad, humans or apes, he begins to realize that things aren't so simple, and there is no straightforward answer. Admittedly, I didn't like this one the first time I saw it, but it grew on me the more I watched it. Mainly didn't like it because the Lion King connections. Caesar = Mufasa Blue Eyes = Simba Koba = Scar Maurice = Rafiki WAR felt like RISE and DAWN rolled into one movie. We already seen the apes escape from captivity in RISE and we already seen them battle with humans in DAWN. I felt like it didn't really add much new material tbh. It did try to add a touch of comedy with Bad Ape (a character I didn't really care for), but it was like almost every line he said was a joke and it just got old after a while. I also wasn't a fan of this played out Holocaust/Nazi/authoritarian theme, at all. It's been done to death, (Star Wars, Toy Story 3, V for Vendetta, Pan's Labyrinth, Starship Troopers, The Purge and on and on and on). I realize Planet of the Apes has always had a political message to it about coming together and understanding others and crushing tyranny...but for the love of God, stop! And it also completely undoes the Caesar & Blue Eyes/Mufasa & Simba relationship within the first 15 minutes that DAWN made so significant, they pulled an Alien 3 (Hicks and Newt) and it was just a stupid cliche reason to give Caesar more depth with the "you killed my family" revenge theme. Woody Harrelson was great though, even though he's ruthless, you can't help but to feel sorry for him, and that's impressive when you can make an audience care about a person you're supposed to hate, honestly this film wouldn't have been half as good without him. And again, Maurice was awesome in this movie. I loved his role in helping the apes escape from the military compound. In a way, he was sort of forced to take on leadership while Caesar was captive and it really showed just how intelligent he was. All in all, it is a rock-solid trilogy but it does suffer from the trivial cliches that a lot films are already guilty of. Hopefully in the next Apes trilogy, they'll go off into space at the end of the third one and officially close the franchise. ...For the next 20 years at least.

I just watched the original again. The trick with the old movies is to not watch their 'modern remakes' too close to when you watch them. I disagree that it didn't age well. The makeup is awesome for what they could do, it feels like you are looking at sentient apes assuming they don't have to move their mouths too much. There is an occasional scene where I'm like "ehhh" but for the most part still a must watch movie.

Regarding some of your complaints about Conquest, you have to realize or remember what it was like in 1972. Movies appeared first-run in theaters and then didn't make it on to television until years later-and even then, they appeared once on one of the three television networks (CBS, NBC, ABC) and then wouldn't be repeated for years. Americans didn't yet have cable TV, with its expensive (for the time) channels that were largely or totally dedicated to movies; cable TV would only start to gain audiences in 1976 or so, and only become truly widespread around the country in the early1980s. Likewise, there were almost no video recorders; they would gain popularity with VCRs, beginning in the mid-1980s. No POTA movie made it to television until September 1973, when CBS aired the first movie. Beneath then followed in late 1973, then Escape in early 1974, Conquest in late 1974, and Battle in mid-1975. These were all one-time showings. So if you didn't catch a movie upon its original theatrical run, you had to wait until it aired years later on network television, and then you had one chance to see it for a few more years. All of this is to point out that you could not count on audiences remembering what had happened in prior movies, particularly in an era when sequels were unusual. Add to that the complicated timeline/storyline of the Apes films, and audiences needed to be reminded of what had gone before. So you are incorrect when you imply that screenwriter Paul Dehn was wrong to provide exposirion on prior events in the films. That's not the way you make movies, you say. To the contrary, that's not the way movies are made *now*, true. Americans can easily catch up on prior films now. But in the late 1960s and early 1970s, recouning events from the previous films (or showing recaps/flashbacks, as in Beneath and Escape) was the responsible thing to do. And many of your complaints about the first five films boil down to them not adhering to today's filmmaking standards. The well-regarded Pauline Kael, film critic for the New Yorker, called POTA (1968) very well-paced, with action sequences perfectly timed. The first half-hour of the film was inspired by King Kong (1933), which similarly made audiences wait for the reveal of its title creature; it was viewed by the filmmakers as critical for establishing the mood of the film. No, the first five films don't conform to today's pacing standards, but that's a strength.

Evan Miller - It is NOT about budget. It is about characterizations, stories, good writing, acting, developing feeling, etc.

Soldier Guy007 It actually makes more sense to me. As they become more intelligent and evolve, they probably would take on more human-like tendencies. Walking up straight with homosapien posture and developing vocal features that accomodate speech would happen with years of evolution and change (due to the biological chemicals that made their increasing intelligence possible as well as regular evolution). Humans used to be very similar to apes, I mean they are our cousins. They would naturally start to take on homosapien tendencies as they progress and evolve. That's the fun and thematic irony at play. These animals become more human like than us eventually. It pays directly into the theme and ideas of the original classic.

9. Escape from the planet of the apes: it literally made no sense, where did the ship come from, they didn’t even know what a ship was, how did they know about the bomb they weren’t there. 8. Conquest of the planet of the apes: I get you gotta go in a new direction and continue the story, it wasn’t bad on that but again 3 kinda ruined it. 7. Battle for the planet of the apes: I thought this one had the best action out of the originals, it was pretty good on a technical level but once again 3 was just dumb. 6. Planet of the apes (2001): I never understood the hate of this movie, I thought the acting and directing was great, I like how the ending was closer to the book, it wasn’t a shot for shot remake, was it the best? No. Was it the worst? No. 5. Rise of the planet of the apes: thought they did a good job with it but at the end I thought they went too far having Caesar start speaking in sentences when all he said was no earlier. 4. Dawn of the planet of the apes: rare for a sequel to be better but this one was great throughout, character build up and action was great, also liked the bad ape. 3. War for the planet of the apes: best non-stop action out of all of them, loved how the ending basically goes into the original, the left Caesar off great. 2. Planet of the apes (1968): the classic, the best twist, most originals are the best, but for me this one wasn’t the best, one was just slightly better in my opinion... 1. Beneath the planet of the apes: best planet of the apes to date in my opinion, I like the evolved men and woman that got powers from the nuclear attack, love how it stuck with what worked in the original, and that ending where Brent and Taylor take them all on is just flat out badass, “bloody bastards”

its close to 30 minutes before anything of note happens in Alien to, although you can argue the landscape in the meantime is facinating, rather than just being desert terrain, i guess after x amount of years stuck out in space you'd feel like talking. As Heston mentioned feeling lonely being the first to recover in the opening shot something that dates the film badly, is that the missing link like Apes never walk in that bow legged way that primates do, its completely human whereas in Burton's film they...woddle and leap

this series is a dope idea, man. i was never die-hard PotA fan. the original is considered a classic but it didnt have the dramatic weight I was expecting. I've loved the new series though (havent seen War yet). Unpopular opinion: I prefer Rise to Dawn. That scene where he earns the favor of the other monkeys was just bad ass.

I always loved Planet of the Apes (2001) Even before I learned about the twists, Which makes complete sense in universe. An probably makes more sense than the twist in the (1968) film. It's really one big twist instead of multiple smaller twists. An I think it pulls more stuff from the novels. Or a novel. Which means it wasn't the 2001 version doing a twist for the sake of twists but the 1968 version doing a twist for the sake of twists.

I like the apes trilogy because even though it’s about Ceaser I feel like there all on the same level like they can all die the same not ceaser being a superhero and everyone else is normal there all the same which I love and also there not afraid of death too because it’s realistic.

If you rank based on movie entertainment then I mostly agree. These movies however have some heavy social commentary. Ranking the movies based on relevant ideas today that should be discussed with watchability and entertainment as secondary: 1.- Dawn of the Planet of the Apes 2.- Original Planet of the Apes 3.- Rise of the Planet of the Apes 4.- (Insert here one of the old ones or War for the Planet of the Apes) (haven't seen the old ones in a long time) 5.- 2011 remake last. The last part of the new trilogy was visually great, but failed to explore any significant idea. Ok ending for amazing previous 2 movies. I rewatched the original recently and was surprised at how relevant the social commentary is right now. The insignificance of man, the relative values of ideas like nationalism, some heavy evolutionary discussions that sadly reflect our world today, some shockingly reflecting Orwellian vocabulary that we use today to disqualify diversity. Dawn..... Should be rewatched. A lot more in there than you might think.

12:20 Mark Wahlberg back then was HEAVILY reliant on the stuff around him working, he’s great in Boogie Nights, which was one of his first movies, so it’s not that he didn’t have any capacity for good performances, it’s that the people around him had to set him up to succeed, which is still kind of the case, as he’s terrible in The Happening, I know that’s like 15 years ago now, but certainly much more recent than Boogie Nights.

31:50 I LOVE Bad Ape! I love the entirety of the new trilogy a whole lot, honestly. One of the best sets of movies in the past 25+ years. An unexpected surprisingly wonderful series of films.

The comments around 12:12 are spot on. I said then WALBERG IS NOT a Leading Man...he didn't become one until 'FOUR BROTHERS' IMO. Hollywood likes to do that, cast guys as leads who aren't ready.

+Dankwa Brooks yep. They pick someone in their late 20s and try and turn them into the next a-lister. They screw up some of their careers doing it

WOW planet of the apes an absolute classic at number 4. Just about every movie is dated at 50 years old lol. Majority of ur movies are a product of their time and don't hold up especially a 50 yr old movie lol.

War for the Panet of the Apes is not just the greatest Planet of the Apes movie, but one of the greatest movies of all time. There is some brilliant cinematography, with great acting and motion capture, and a script that blew the audience away, the action was amazing to watch, but it ends up being a character piece for the ages. The fact that people didnt like this movie because it was "too boring" honestly makes me sad that this movie is being dismissed by audiences in favor of movies like "Suicide Squad". Honestly I think they just named them wrong. They should have been titled Dawn of the Planet of the Apes War for the Planet of the Apes Rise of the Planet of the Apes
