Man, I was there Saturday and caught his demo right before he left for lunch. I have to say, I was more impressed by these “less expensive” systems than some of the $500-$700k stuff. This room was awesome, the Q Acoustics with the little M2 stack, and the most impressive thing I heard were the Liquid towers in the Odyssey room. The only thing bigger than the soundstage of those things was Klaus’s personality. Those were $5,900 but DAYAM! I thought it was super cool to hear Andrew introduce his speakers and playing from “only” $12k in electronics made them even more impressive.

Outside of my price range, and too big for my room, BUT it's always amazing to see a new Andrew Jones product! It's not just a new speaker, he always changes the industry. Hope to see your review Zeos!

even from your comment i have hope that he'll set/re-define a new "gold standard" for price/peformance and a would be "ideal" sound signature for "modern" listeners....and eventually they "water down" aka downsize his initial design/sound into something more practical/cost effective at the expense of "volume/power" performance implications that are essentially his baseline for a would be flagship/industry product. ID say in a few years well have this "Cut down" more practical option for desktop/shelf speakers/monitors.

It's worth noting that a speaker of that stature and "chonk" is not a Bookshelf speaker, it is a Stand-mount speaker. To put those beauties on a bookshelf is to slight The Audio Gods.

Didn't he start out at KEF, then on to Pioneer and ELAC? Makes sense that he has a strong affinity for single point-source driver technology. It's what KEF has been known for since the early 90's. Such a shame that the Pioneer models that he designed never took off. The Atmos implementation was very interesting.

@anhiirr

my thoughts exactly. ID second the same for any car/motorcycle etc. Get what you think youll like most, if you cant afford it but its within "reach" after a couple years of saving....make an "ACTION PLAN" of how to save/work etc to truly GET THERE when the time comes....who knows what may "release" by then once the allotted cash to spend/spare is available better/newer options may arise not exactly in the case of these AJ speakers but you may find something less expensive that suits your needs and have money to go around for new gear/etc to pair it with as well. Either way being in that position is MUCH better than being stuck half buried/in a bed you wish you werent stuck in.

Whoa Nellie. How you feed said $1000 speakers can make or break them. Budgeting for a solid foundation - proper amplification, sources, good interconnects and speaker cables is so important. Pairing high $$ speakers with inferior components and cabling is like the tail wagging the dog. There are quite a few $1000 per pair speakers that will scale way beyond their price point when given a good feed. Once this foundation is set, any speaker upgrade down the road will let them sound their best.

The Source Point speakers are time aligned coaxials, not just coaxials like your's. Time aligned coaxials have the diaphragm of the tweeter, level with the start of the woofer cone (where most of the higher stuff comes from the woofer). And crosses over with the tweeter at the same point (instead of the 1" gap like with your's). Sorry to be a nit-picker! You can build your own time aligned coaxials with a pair of Eminence 8" drivers (the ones with the 2" voice coil). And ALPINE 1" car dome tweeters DDT S30. Cheap! And about the only ones that fit inside the woofer voice coil hole. Cut around the outer case of the tweeter with a coping saw to get the tiny tweeter out (1.5" diameter). TINKERING REQUIRED (too long for a comment to explain how I did mine). I modified both drivers radically (for no sour notes) and they have an image to die for!

I hope people take that into consideration… by the way I build sound studios… there are so many variables,A slanted wall ,furniture, a straight,a lower ceiling a, vaulted ceiling , windows You get the point…

Love your rants! I’m really curious to see a comparison between Jones’ new speaker and the Forte IVs. Have you gotten your hands on a pair of those and I missed it? I auditioned a pair of the Forte’s driven by a solid state amp and kind of hated them. They were harsh and tinny sounding. I brought my own (humble Willsenton R8) tube amp and was immediately surrounded by sweet, sweet music. The store now only demos the speakers with a tube amp. I am in the market for a pair of 2 channel speakers and those are at the upper end of my range. I don’t have listening room to the Andre Jones speakers so any thoughts would be appreciated.

Forte's are up in my sun-room. They are great big ole speakers. But I don't think they will hold a candle to these when Push comes to shove. They would need to DSP and self power the Forte to rock as hard as these weird things do.

Just goes to show you how much snake oil exists in audio. Love seeing these sub 4k sets competing with and beating 6 figure towers. For the most part, anything above this price range is just paying for status, except almost nobody cares about it except yourself :D.
@BobFrostV
@BobFrostV Жыл бұрын
Well, you can get towers that go down to 20hz at 100db, maybe a bit better. These bookshelves can't get close to that. But yeah, anyone spending 6 figures on a 30hz+ speaker is not getting a good deal imo.
@peterbaugh51

And we need 20hz why???????????
@BobFrostV

@@peterbaugh51 I'm pointing out that there can be an objective difference between these bookshelves and more expensive towers. I don't disagree that the vast majority of speakers can sound the same at a single listening position with room eq. So spending 10x more money is often subjectively a silly thing to do.

Interesting. Quality of sound & low end, appeared impressive. Looked up specs, a page has them down to 40 hz, cut off unknown (-6 db or -3 db). Flat response to 20 hz is ideal. The ultimate would be if he released a version with a 12" push pull sub below the 10" coaxial, that is active, so not only is the amp ideal, with simple analog (not DSP) controls to select a 40, 30, 20 hz cut off & simple high and low shelf EQs. They can be sealed, given no need to increase perceived bass with porting. They'd cost a bit more but would be the best (true) full range value bang for the buck ever.

@@YouSoundButtHurt Many companies release active versions of their passive models. Adding a sub to a speaker that is ideally matched isn't new either. I've customized a lot of audio tech, but not speakers yet. Allow this to be a place for ideas without getting easily triggered.

I only know of one song with 20hz sound. I can do with 37 hz from a small stand mount. No sub. No 20hz needed.

KEF probably makes the best coaxial speakers (or atleast the most well known for their coaxial drivers) but I tend to find that you really need to pair a subwoofer with them.

Snobbery has appeal to many to spend excessive funds on BS. I interacted by commenting on a vid with one store in Sarasots that was using VERY expensive equipment to determine, completely by ear, if CDs were a better format for audiophiles over streaming. I didn't mention that the obvious nature of copying causing entropy, an inevitability, I just stated that an inexpensive DAC to a receiver would have more meaning to the masses. I think that is important for the mid-fiers, lower high-enders out there. "I was told to go away boy you bother me." What's funny is that he didn't have to say that much for me to think I won't ever go to your store, even though I have the cash to buy product at any price point below the bleeding edge. They'll never see my blood. I BUY VALUE. I research everything prior to buying. While limiting the available field of products, I don't feel a fool when I purchase. I still make mistakes (returning the tektons cost me more than $400.) but I didn't do them blindly.
