***** I'm not 100% sure what you could do with chemistry or physics, but I think you'd have more opportunities with chemistry if I had to pick between the two. If you're going to study physics, you might as well just major in some kind of engineering, as engineering degrees are much more valuable than physics degrees and you'll already have a good chunk of the coursework knocked out if you took all of the physics major classes. Personally, I'd take computer science if I were you. You'll have a lot more job opportunities, and it's not an insanely difficult major.

hmmm, ngl CS varies alot depending on what uni and what stream you're going for, generally theres a good amount of math and programming courses, but thats just the half of it, you've also got to take a lot of science courses, (for a Bsc) and alot of relevant electives (for a BA) and most people in CS take other relevant minors like psychology, marketing, finance or design in place of electives if they aren't already in a specific stream. Its a bit more laid-back and more flexible than engineering but the side projects are really crucial and I'd say they are the best practical applications of some of the theoretical aspects you learn in the program, so defo make sure to work on one or two before you graduate
@Shadowmere29

@aarianaxx
@aarianaxx 7 жыл бұрын
***** Alright, sorry for the late reply. CS is really cool honestly. You're basically bending the computer and it's functions to your will. You control it and shape it. My professor says when debating which is smarter, a rock or a computer, the rock always wins. Which I thought was really interesting. For the second part of your question...College curriculum is harder and easier than high school in many ways. Mostly bc of it's environment. There's a lot of external factors that plays a part (social, time management, sleep, etc) But for CS specifically, there are many projects you may have to do in a short amount of time. The CS I've been dealing with requires you to think and be really good at problem solving. You have to see the problems before they even occur not to mention loopholes. These things take time. So, your biggest enemy will be yourself and how well you manage your time. Hope that helped a bit (:

There is nothing to be ashamed about getting a C or even a few. Some classes really are hard, but if you're in a field you enjoy it's worth sticking to it. If you want to hear about normal when it comes to engineering, you'll probably have a class or two where you won't get over a 50/100 on the test the whole semester. I'll let you in on the secret though. I was really close with one of my professors and he told me that there are some exams that aren't meant to be passed. They're that hard, but the purpose is the professor wants to see how the students think.

Many many many students get C's and worse in college, it's definitely not unusual. I'm looking at a C in biology soon, but I'm learning to accept it because I'm really trying at it, even though I despise biology. College is hard, especially when you're forced to take classes you're not interested in. But stay strong!
@sasasavage5047
@sasasavage5047 7 жыл бұрын
Chemical engineering grad here. It's completely normal to get Cs. My classmates and I would also say Cs get degrees. I would caution to not make it a habit though because you want your GPA to stay at least a 3.0 to get the best internships and full time job offers. I definitely had moments where I would pray for a C and sigh in relief when I got one though. My school operated on the plus/minus system, which was even worse. My advice is to try your best to get As and Bs so you have wiggle room for Cs in the REALLY hard classes.
@zahriarhyne5967
@zahriarhyne5967 7 жыл бұрын
Well, thanks for you insight and perspective and congratulations. I do try my best to to get all the As and Bs I can possibly get, one day I would love to go to grad school to do an M.Phil. I'm not the smartest person but I work hard and I'm always willing to learn, those are probably the only qualities that are probably getting me through U.W.I. decently.

I stumbled upon this video and I told myself if I guessed your major then I'd continue this course. I also take BSIE or Industrial Engineering and after a few minutes in your video, you mentioned it. The exact course that I am taking. Of course, I took this as a huge sign from the universe to continue what I started. It will be really helpful if you make videos more about your college life majoring in industrial engineering. You will now be my motivation or something haha i am so glad i found someone like you. It is very rare in KZbin to see a woman who takes engineering degree. Your videos are so great too.

I'm taking intro to programming which sounds....lame considering it's an intro class, but then again we have a good engineering school so who knows. We're currently working with C++ so EVERYTHING is step-by-step and I'm having trouble wrapping my mind to effectively memorizing---REMEMBERING the steps. It's just so weird to me. I don't understand why I can't seem to understand cyber language. Math and Science i get, but not this. Any tips will be greatly appreciated, thank you
@JakeVoorhees
@JakeVoorhees 7 жыл бұрын
Yeah programming classes, even the intro ones, are hard. They were for me. C++ is wack too so I feel your pain 100%. It's okay, I was like this as well, the math came to be, but somp sci ugh. My tips are this: 1. Put in extra time with the prof. Stay after class if you have time and ask questions. 2. Go to office hours as well. These tactics will give you extra tips, put you on the professors radar, and give you advantages even if you cannot score as high. It will HELP a lot during final grade time bc C's get degrees for hard classes and a D means you will have to retake. 3. Do hw / labs and study with others. Make friends with students who can bring you up, and put in the time with them so you aren't leeching, but you are in a study environment that's positive for your coursework. 4. Review the class material before class. This will give you advantages bc you know what to expect and can take better notes and properly pay attention. 5. Befriend the TA for your lab, and do the same with that person as steps 1 and 2. 6. Really put in the time. College is 4-5 years of a investment for a lifetime of reward. It's worth the struggle, so commit to that extra time if you aren't a natural programmer. Message me with any other questions, I'm an engineering student mentor. Cheers!

Hi Everyone, was just youtubing and happened to stumble across this video for reasons I don't know why... The stuff you get up too on youtube hey? AHAH but when I was in highschool i also wanted to know more about engineering so hopefully I can also give you some insight now that I am doing it. Great video by the way Natalie! I am in my third year (junior for you u.s people), and I study aerospace engineering and commerce at the University of New South Wales, based in Aus. Our university is probably the best engineering university in Australia and is globally ranked and recognised for engineering :). Natalie seemed to give a very realistic insight into the field of engineering which was great to see. As an engineering student throughout your 4 years, your study will revolve around 3 main fields. Engineering Science, Mathematics and Design. I use the term 'engineering science' because the 'science' you learn in engineering is quite different compared to someone who majors in science. For example, being an aerospace student, I take classes in propulsion (thermodynamics), solid mechanics and aerodynamics (Fluid mechanics). Not going to go into detail, but these are fields in science that are specialised in my degree so somebody studying science will usually never study these courses. Mathematics is also a large component. You will be studying calculus, linear algebra(worst), statistics(probability, distribution etc), applied mathematics and a lot of other things. Keeping it short here :). But you will find that maths is A LOT more difficult at university/college than in high school Engineering design will usually be seen in your final 2-3 years, this is a time for you to practice real engineering principles such as designing a aeroplane, manufacturing a pneumatic pump etc. In these design courses they are trying to make you become more well equipped engineers who understand, design processes, decision making, concept validation etc. In terms of how difficult engineering is, for me aerospace engineering is very difficult but you can get through it if you put in the work and do the necessary study. Like Natalie said, we don't just spend 2 hours at the library AHAH. Unlike her, I sadly do not have much of a life :') my time at uni is spent in the classroom, and the remainder of time is spent studying with my head in the books and it is honestly not too bad, the majority of the cohort does the same simply because of how difficult the course work is. Alongside my time I am also part of my uni's FSAE team, where I work as an aerodynamicist (look it up if you don't know what I am talking about) and I have an additional two jobs, one of them being an internship in engineering. Overall engineering is very tough and it isn't a walk in the park. However, I do believe that this is one of the reasons why engineering students and engineering majors are regarded very highly. If you do the work you will definitely be fine :). Just finishing it off for those that are interested in the world of engineering but do not really know what they do this is how I would describe them An engineer is someone who uses applicable science and mathematics to increase the standard of living for people and communities, implement cost effective procedures in industry and formulate viable solutions to solve real world problems. An engineer's role is different in a variety of disciplines and domains but I believe these 3 things remain true between engineers. All the best!

I am a junior in high school and since last year I have been thinking I might like to be an engineer, but I didn’t knew what “type” of engineer I will like to be... so this year one of my professors, who is an engineer, told me that I do have the potencial and that I could consider a major in industrial engineering, I had my doubts about how is it like to study this major and your video definitely solved most of them. She forgot to mention how much us engineers talk about wanting to die (Not really of course!) from all the work we get. My first ChemE course was set up in a way so the average was a 50 and it was curved. Should have seen me when I got a 47% my first quiz, I thought I was the stupidest student alive. Then I found out my whole class got around there or worse. Yes there are more guys in the class but I love it that way because boys (I have found) are not afraid to joke around with the prof a little which helps ease some of the tension. Unlike her, I decided to become a ChemE because I love chemistry and math and a challenge. Guys if you are an new engineering major PLEASE do not underestimate your classes! That was half the reason I didn't do as good in my first ChemE class! I walked in to the class and my prof was like oh this is the basic ChemE course and I thought I was the shit bc I did well in a community college and because she said basic. Didn't make that mistake the second ChemE course and destroyed it. Oh and this is coming from a girl who majored in what is known as the hardest engineering course (From what I heard anyways!) Idk how industrial is so I wanted to give a view from something that actually is super sciency and mathy. Wow I sound all over the place but that's my input^.^

It really depends on how many classes you decide to take per semester. Full time is 12 hours minimum(4 classes). I would suggest doing a variety at first, instead of a piling on a bunch of science and math classes together. I would also suggest not taking all the easy stuff first because then you will have no choice but to pile on all hard classes which is exactly what I did, but somehow still making it. I did take all my math classes back to back never taking a break, that was smart because now I'm done and my math skills are on point all the time. You will get to a point no matter what though where the work load is enormous and all you can do is stick with it. For example, I have a presentation to do Thursday and then a test right after. The biggest learning curve most people have is the physics and understanding the core concepts, because almost all engineering classes are just applied physics.
@firehead1221
@firehead1221 7 жыл бұрын
I did the same thing. I didn't have any experience with college because my parents never went. I was on my own and started at community college and transferred to take my engineering classes. Taking 4-5 engineering classes for a few semesters was rough. Wish I would have mixed in some easy classes. Graduating this semester though. My worst week I had 3 test and 3 presentation all in the same week. One of those days had a presentation at the beginning of the day followed by two test back to back. Afro the first year isn't bad, and it definitely gets harder but during your second year you'll get the idea if you want to stick with it. More importantly find clubs that are in your interest that relate to mechanical.

Yo Harvey, it's never too late!! I went to school with a bunch of "non-traditional students" who were wayy older than you. Being 26 gives you huge advantages though! You're more mature, probably more focused, understand time management better than an 18 year old, etc. Don't worry 26 is still super young and it's worth the investment to change your entire future!! Maybe you can combine both? There are ROTC programs at most schools where they will pay for your school and you can be a military officer right out of the gate after you get your degree. Veni Vidi Amavi Once the semester starts I'm going to be doing daily vlogs on the life of an Electrical Engineering major. I'll be a junior so some videos will have study techniques and other tips. Hopefully the videos will also allow people to see what it's like and how fun it is :)

3:54 Lol yeah, that's definitely the least science-orientated engineering program, but good job either way.

Yay another engineer!! I do chemical and materials engineering and it' such a tough degree but so worth it! It's so cool that you've made this video that brings awareness to engineering because where I'm from a lot of girls don't know that it's an option for them! :)
