Chaunice Figueiredo I understand you wanting to help her embrace her curls (I mean I follow the curly method myself) but some people still prefer to straighten their hair and it’s ok. It’s a lot of upkeep compared to a wash, blow, and press every week of two. I also feel that embracing your curly hair is a personal journey cause everyone told me to keep my curls but I still flat ironed them and begged my mom to take me to get a relaxer.

They came out sooooo pretty. My mama use to do my braids and them were TOIGHT!!! 🤣But would loosen the next day, and would last for weeks. She hasn't braided my hair since I've been natural (3yrs) but recently I installed (myself) some Senegalese twist...it's not the same. 🤧 they came out really good, but I like when my mama does it.

I usually use a spray bottle to dampen my scalp first and then I may add oil. The water makes a difference in the itchiness. I think it gets itchy because it has tension from the braids but also because it isn't getting product or water at all. Water is everything and moisturizes my scalp really well. I think the oil works like a sealant once my scalp is damp from the water.

4 hours would be a dream for me. I got my hair put in Senegalese twists 3 weeks ago and it took 9 hours and the take down process...uuuuuuugggggggh! 4 hours if I really hustle.

Oh you go girl! I wore box braids earlier this year but only with my own hair as it was short at the time. All I ever did was apply some growth oils into my scalp and rub it in. My hair always gets frizzy when I leave them in braids or cornrows but I think that's normal because my new growth is coming through so after 4 or 5 weeks I take them down. I never leave a protective style in for longer than 6 weeks because I'm scared of severely tangled knots!

I just took some braids out Sis 😁 First off I love ya, love love! Always watch your videos, notification squad, insta & snap!! I appreciate this video for many reasons. Other than the fact that I myself need this video. I can always learn something new. I appreciate this video because you’re audience isn’t just POC and there’s always a discussion sometimes even arguments when WOC are approached by other races about how we keep our natural hair to our protective styles. And sometimes we don’t have the best way to communicate, but here we can add input, anyone can ask questions without fear or backlash because people are honestly interested. When i get protective styles depending on the style (“box” braids feed in faux locs) i keep them a month or 6 weeks locs i keep the longest at almost 3 months

Braids can be a little uncomfortable if you're tender headed (during the process of putting the weave in) , with stylers you have to be vocal, if you don't want it tight or want your edges out say it beforehand. Usually with braiding they will tuck your real hair under the synthetic one so there isn't a desperate need to wash the individual braids. However, your scalp parting needs to washed/greased, this will help with the frizz and I hate the frizz & flyaways because it doesn't look neat anymore and adding new growth (for me ill just have to take it out quicker than I expected).

To prevent itchy scalp: take synthetic hair in super hot water and apple cidar vinegar or white distilled vinegar for about 30 minutes then rinse. Then I wash the hair (cheap sulfate free/moisturizing shampoo) rinse Then I add a leave in and blow dry the hair. I treat the $1.99 hair just like my own (it's going to be in your hair for weeks).

I totally did not pre-prep my natural hair nor washed the synthetic hair with vinegar per KZbin tutorials to prevent itch 😩 I got Box braids for the first time like a month ago and OMG that synthetic hair just itched my scalp so bad!!! My braider also braided them too tight for my tender head so it did hurt for the first couple of days. I didn’t have a good first experience although they were very cute and very heavy! I resorted to just twisting my own natural curly hair after deep conditioning into 2 strand twist for a protective summer style.
