@Akshit Rawat ✓ Yes, you are absolutely right. Now lots of students know about the opportunities which are available but till now lots of big companies prefer tier 1 students over tier 3, I don't know the obsession of tier 1 by this companies even if there are lots of smart students in tier 2/3 colleges. Microsoft just did this discrimination where Microsoft replied to only tier 1 students and rejected/not responded to tier 2/3 colleges. But one thing to note that, I never heard, a student who has really great skills like good in CP, do open source, have good projects, etc is not hired by a good company/startup. And that company is actually paying him/her atleast 10 lakhs which is really great. So the conclusion is develop skills and then opportunities will definitely come forward to you.

The thing is my 2nd year is about to end. I'm in BTech Mechanical and i'm just starting to prepare for offcampus. The same process, starting language, then all the stuff that follows. its too late for me i guess as Aman Bhaiya never addressed this situation, seems like its a case of no hope? all that i'm hoping deep inside is that Apna College team notices my comment/reply and address this. If its worthless then why waste time coding which would give me no placements. hope i was clear with my words.

If you're interested in machine design, learn AutoCAD(2D Design), CATIA/SolidWorks( 2D, 3D Design, Surface Modelling) and Ansys(Analysis). In SolidWorks, you can do both, design and analysis. - Be a part of your college's SAE team( If you don't have a college team, MAKE ONE ) and participate in a BAJA/SUPRA event. - There are GO-kart competitions as well, I'd suggest you to participate in an Electric Go Kart competition( if you do not have a team, make one) - Lead a team 2. Apart from SAE there is a competition called SIH( Smart India Hackathon), organized by the gov. of India. If you win this competition you'll get a Letter Of Recommendation from the ministry/organization whose problem your team solved. 3. Then there are internships, aim for prestigious institutions like ISRO, DRDO, BARC, BHEL, HAL, IISER, General Electric, Ashok Leyland, etc. TRY COMPLETING AT LEAST ONE INTERNSHIP IN 3RD YR. (THEN THERE ARE NPTEL COURSES IF YOU SCORE HIGH IN THOSE, YOU MIGHT GET GET AN INTERNSHIP IN AN IIT AND WORK UNDER AN IIT PROF, you can get a LOR from there as well) 4. If you wanna study abroad or work in a private firm, KEEP YOUR CGPA AS HIGH AS POSSIBLE. (LORs matter a lot as well) ALSO, DON'T JUST MUG UP THE THEORIES, APPLY IT. 5. Publish a research paper, consult your teachers, if you think they're of no help, use the internet and find a nice topic. 6. Choose an awesome major project in final year. I'd suggest something which involves both dynamic systems and their control(WHICH INVOLVES PROGRAMMING (Learn a coding language)) like smart drones or something like that. IF YOU CAN COMPLETE 60-75% OF THIS, YOU MIGHT BECOME THE BEST STUDENT THAT WILL GRADUATE IN MECH. FROM YOUR BATCH. ps- You're fortunate enough that someone is telling you all of this at the right time..
