Myself, my husband, our 2 daughters (preschool and elementary school age) just moved from Orlando, FL to Durham in June 2022--WE ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT!!! We wanted to leave Florida to be closer to our industries (I work in clinical research and my husband is an author illustrator wanting to get into the gaming industry for character design). Not to mention, the Florida home insurance crisis is out of control. I have so many great things to say about Durham! The people are wonderful, the city is diverse, the opportunity provided by all of the companies in the area is amazing, and it's such a fun, quirky city full of character and heart. People in Durham truly have a lot of pride in their city. You'll see flags outside of people's homes with the Durham city logo, locals wearing clothes full of Durham logos and gear--it's pretty cool! They have a lot of love for the city. We are an African American family and everyone has been super welcoming. We found an amazing house in a neighborhood in the South Durham area just north of I-40. We have a spacious lot, a walkout basement, mature trees, and tons of space as we both work from home. I'm 3 miles away from my office if I decide to go into work as we'revery close to RTP. We love going into downtown Durham and exploring and have always felt safe even late at night. The downtown area is going through a revitalization and the city is doing a great job. Our oldest daughter is in public school and her school is great. It has a community feeling, and wonderful teachers, with diverse and bright students. Our neighbors are doctors, lawyers, and professors who have all raised their kids in the public school system here and all have great things to say. I find that the people are very progressive, accepting, and educated. Our daughter is into science and computers and she was able to complete a program at Duke where they were reaching out to young girls to expose them to STEM. She also attends a school nearby our home for coding once a week. Durham has gone through a lot of change and is still changing. Honestly, we are so blessed to have found a great city with such wonderful people. All of the triangle is great but this crazy little city has won us over. We are so happy with our decision to come here ❤️

There are great suburbs surrounding Raleigh! Yoana has a VLOG of almost all the other major suburbs :) That being said, each has it's advantages and disadvantages. However, you can't really go wrong with any of them.

@@AJ-mw6jj Durham is going through a major transformation! And, I honestly think it is for the good not the bad. Many of the not so great neighborhoods have been updated. Old homes have been replaced with beautiful new homes. I've been here for the past 11 years and while I wasn't so excited about walking downtown Durham 10 years ago, today sometimes I hop on my bike and bike from Cary to Durham on the American Tobacco Trail just to have a nice lunch! It has a nice vibe, close to RDU, downtown Raleigh and Chapel Hill. Housing is still very affordable although some neighborhoods got really expensive compared to where they were. Another sign that Durham is on the right path :). That being said, if you don't like Durham, there are a lot of other suburbs around Durham to consider. Yoana has a Vlog about most of the suburbs surrounding Raleigh. They are very helpful :)
