I think growing out your natural hair is such a good idea. Bleach can be so damaging, and light blonde is such a hard colour to maintain. I dyed my hair way too much as a teenager, and it took me about a year and a half to get rid of all my dyed hair. I cut heaps of it off and let it fully grow out. I really love it now, and people are always saying nice things about it. I hope you end up really enjoying your natural colour!

Was home dyeing my hair black for years, then went an almost white blonde through a hairdresser. Changed hairdresser, started to get over the maintenance and breakage and got some low lights so I didn't have to get it dyed so frequently. Then grew my hair out a bit and got it dyed close to my natural colour. It's definitely faded more in some places, but it looks more ombre than patchy. I wash my hair probably about twice a week and always put a hair mask on. Current favourite is from Joico because it makes my hair feel so soft. If you want to go blonde, you really have to be prepared to spend the money, even after you aren't blonde any more. Colour looks awesome on you Karissa!

Such a great idea Karissa! I have messed with dyes in my hair for years because I thought my mousy light brown roots were horrible. I finally decided to grow it out, and my hair is now a beautiful natural ombre. And as more and more of my natural colour came out, it turned into a beautiful light brown! My hair has never felt so soft nor grown so fast! You won't regret fazing out the blonde :)

After years of having waist length, blonde foiled hair, I decided to save money by cutting my hair into a bob and getting ombre done to hide the roots. Turns out I actually love my natural hair colour, which is that colour that initially causes many people to begin dyeing their hair blonder as they become teenagers, a dark blonde with warm tones, which lightens significantly in the sun. Haven't dyed it for more than a year now and absolutely love the thousands of dollars I've saved by getting only haircuts done now! I reckon you'll also love your natural hair colour, once you see more of it too. ;)

Brooke did an awesome job! it must be really nice to be able to wash and wear your hair for a change! my hair is quite long and i just throw it in a lose braid and let it air dry as well. it's really nice for all seasons because it's very low maintenance in the summer, but will also help to tame static due to heat damage in the winter! I'm excited to see your hair change over the next few months since I've only ever seen it as long and blonde!

I had hair that was really dry and brittle from years if colour experimentation and decided to grow it out. But every time I went to the salon the girl would convince me that if I wanted to look half way decent I would get whatever colour she picked (I tried a bunch of different salons and they were all just as pushy). I find it really hard to say no to people so I kept giving in. After two odd years of this I decided to just chop it all off. So I did shave for a cure and my hair grew back SO much thicker and healthier. I'm so happy!

Huge thanks for making this video!! I had a "chemical haircut" 2 years ago and my scalp was chemical burned as well. It's taken me the 2 years to grow my hair to just above my shoulders. I switched hairdressers and she's been a big help with the process.. Now I'm thinking of getting keratin extensions so I can have my long hair back! Best of luck with your hair detox!!

i naturally have dark brown hair and over the years i've dyed it maroon/ash/brown..and I've been letting my natural hair colour grow out for about 2 years now. Happy to say I prefer my natural healthy hair over the chemically treated ones. I just find healthy hair the most appealing now. It looks and feels great. Looking healthy is really attractive in my opinion :) For my hair type, the base line is, once i dye it, it'll looks dry and will never be as nourished at it once was no matter how hardworking i am with hair masks and hair care.

Good for you, Karissa!! Your hair is going to thank you big time! I had almost-blonde hair for quite a long time (probably started when I was about 18, and I'm 22 now) and I recently had my hair done to a much more natural color, and left the residual highlighting in as an ombre effect, I'm so in love with how it turned out, and it'll make it so much easier to grow out without so much processing. Aside from saving my broke college kid budget for other things, I want to take better care of my hair from now on.

My hair detox began about 19 months ago when me hair was so damaged I had to cut it to shoulder length. I was bleach blonde, I dyed it mid-brown which then faded due to the bleach I had previously had on it. The sun lightens the bleached bits, so I now have very 'ombre' looking boob length hair which is so healthy! I still have regular trims of course, especially due to the ends still having been treated with bleach, but coconut oil has been my saviour! Growing your hair is so addictive

I think I have pretty much the same natural colour as you, it took about 2 years to grow it all out to about shoulder length. I felt like my natural colour was too dark though, so I just booked an appointment to get it ombred! I think that's the best way to go, then you don't have to worry about having to dye it all the time, but you can still have it brightened up a bit :)

Awhile ago my friend died my hair blonde. My hair is natural dark brown. After having to dye it more and more my hair wasn't feeling very healthy at all. I ended up chucking my hair into a ponytail and chopped the whole thing off. (My hair went from being down to my belly button to a bob) at first I couldn't believe i did it but I'm really happy now! It's growing back and feels so healthy as with the rest of my hair I did something like you. Although I miss my long hair I don't regret cutting it off. I wear extensions and it's back to how it was before. The colour really suits you by the way!

Your hair looks great Karissa! I have never colored my hair. I wanted to once but I never dared to actually do it. My hairdresser also said it would be a waste, because I have so many different colors in my hair (light blonde, darker blonde, brown-red and red) , so yeah, never done it

I moved to Milan in 2011 and to get my hair highlighted it was SO expensive so I found this hair stylist out one night who worked for Vogue. He made my hair SO bright and I started becoming addicted to bleaching it myself. I bleached it and bleached it. Then I went to Scotland for New Years. I had a cocktail out one night and it was a cool red colour so I decided I would dye it that colour while drunk haha. MASSIVE mistake. It was peroxide overload and it started snapping from the roots. My hair was so long. It began to fade out as a salmon colour and I put pastel purple in it. In the end I had to put a dark chocolate brown over it all as no one would hire me for a summer job. After two years I have started introducing the highlights again. I wrecked my hair to bits but I had the best fun doing it. I felt so dull as a brunette. Never again!!!!

When I was about 9 or 10 I decided to cut my hair short (my hair was quite long and was healthy and beautiful). I later found out this was a huge mistake. I was blonde before I cut it , and after that it started to go a yucky brown colour so my mum decided to take me to the hairdresser to dye it blonde. I still dye it, but it has only been in the past 18months that my hair has significantly grown (I also haven't had it cut for like a year - I believe this is why it has grown so much). I love your new hair Karissa ;)

In the beginning of last year i cut my hair really short (at my shoulders) because I had to get all the color and the permanent curls out. It looked great and i loved the result, until it got that akward length. I have been trying ever since to grow it long, and I have found that not washing my hair more than 2-3 times per week helps it grow faster. Your hair really looks great, and I love your vids :-) Love from Denmark!

I'm growing my hair out too, but not because it was previously colored. I did a keratin hair straightener about a year and 1/2 ago. Unfortunately, the hair stylist did something wrong and my hair got fried. Some of my hair stands split and broke off. I had to cut it super short and continue to cut the ends until all my hair was new growth. For a long time my hair was dry, damaged and brittle. I had to wear it up for months because of all the damage. My current hair is new growth and much much healthier. I am so happy I can actually wear my hair down and it doesn't feel rough or brittle. It took forever to grow it out, but it was worth it. I'm happy to see your growing your hair out and keeping it healthy :) It'll be worth it once all the bleached hair is gone !! Plus you look good with your natural color.

I too completely bleached my hair platinum blonde and fried it horribly. After a year I dyed it brown and decided to grow it out. It's been a little over a year and my hair is so healthy! It's almost to my desired length. I have not dyed it in over a year, I rarely use heat, and I only wash it every other day. These changes have helped me grow it out and get it back to a healthy state, best decision I've ever made.

Love your hair! I went from dark brown to beige blonde (over 2 years) then back to brown and haven't dyed my hair for nearly 2 years. It's almost all my natural colour except for one inch and turned out being an awesome medium ashy brown colour I was trying to get when I dyed it! It's so much healthier and easier to manage. Thanks for your video! Xx

I stopped bleaching my hair almost 3 yrs ago now. I opted for the ombre look as well but I did it myself by just using a lightening spray on my roots as they grew out. I now don't have any bleach left in my hair but it still looks pretty blonde thanks to the spray :) It looks very natural as well because the spray keeps your natural highlights just takes everything up a few notches. Sooo happy with the results because it means I get to have blonde hair that's really healthy :) Your hair looks really good btw, hope ur enjoying it xx

I'm currently growing my hair out! It's an annoying journey to say the least!! I made the mistake of bleaching my hair to a platinum blonde and although I loved it, my hair just always looked dry and frizzy. It was fried to no extent and I had to cut a lot of the length off. I started getting it dyed a lighter brown and tried to get rid of as many heat products as possible. I also massage castor oil into my scalp and through my ends about twice a week and it has definitely made a difference. My hair has started growing crazy fast and I appreciate my natural color so much more now!!

Detoxing is really af process! I bleached my hair at home last summer, I went from a blackish/brown to a golden blonde. The colour was beautiful (thank GOD, I knew the risk) but my hair fell out in chunks.... luckely it was only the inner part of my hair. For a year now I have been wearing my hair up in a ponytail almost every day, and like you I have the nicest hairdresser. My roots are slightly ombre and now my hair is almost damage free and all in the same length. Just now I can wear my hair natural and feel good about myself. I've learned from my stupid mistakes, it just feels good to finanlly have (some what) healthy hair. :)

Hi Karissa! I have been growing my hair out for over a year now. I went thru a pretty horrible relationship where he only liked my hair dark. My hair was over processed and dead. I could not get it to go past my sholders. I then, had a hair dresser friend lighten it to a more manageable color and fried my hair off!! Good news is, I dumped my bf and the friend. I then took matters into my own hand and let my hair grow out!! It has been a very long and at times frustrating process. But the best decision I could have ever made! I am now involved with a man who would kill me if I ever dyed my hair anything then my natural color! It has taught me to love my self and my natural god given red hair! I get stopped all the time on people asking who dyes my hair, and my response is... jesus! Lol!! Love your videos and good luck on your natural hair journey!

I've been thinking about doing what you did to your hair too, for the fall & winter months here in CA. Then slowly brighten up around spring & be my normal bright blonde for summer. Lol. I just love the ombré look on you and I love how you still look very blonde. That's what I want exactly. I just hate how I'm so nervous about it lol! But this video helped a lot and I'm going to do this after summer here in California ! Promise LOL!!! I would love I keep you updated. Thanks Karissa!

I made the switch to my natural color a couple years ago. At the time my hair was about right above my waist, so I chopped it all off and got an A-line bob. That ended up being a lot of maintenance... So I grew it back out. Growing out the bob cut was difficult... It looked so bad for a while. But finally it grew out enough where I could cut it all one length with some layers in there. Now my hair is about 4 inches past my shoulders. I try not to use heat on it and I do a lot of coconut oil masks :). Good luck on your hair journey!!!

I'm growing my hair out, I've been every colour under the sun! But my natural colour is Strawberry Blonde, I've completed washed the dye's out by using ColourB4 (English Product) and my hair has been natural for a week and is already in good condition. Best thing i've done though, is take my bonded extensions out. You don't realise how much it damages your hair. I had mine in for two years, obviously had them taken out and reput back in. But when the bond is attached to a clump of your hair, it actually stop your hair growing fast. You may disagree but i've noticed a massive difference!! Plus my hair is thickening up already which I never got when i had extensions in!

I wouldn't ever take them out!:) If done properly and maintained well they will not damage your hair in the slightest. Brooke and Jamie (The other stylist) did the exact same 'Detox' With keratin extensions and within the year their hair was past their bra straps and they didn't need extensions for length or thickness. Even if I get to that point I think I'd still keep some in for the sake of even more thickness hahaha. You're lucky you're naturally strawberry blonde! It's such a pretty colour :) Thanks for watching! xx

In 2011 and 2012 I dyed my hair probably once a month towards the end of '11, and started using heat tools several times a week. My hair was so dry and split, but I didn't cut it until around November 2012, when I had stopped dying it for a few months. In November I also got a keratin smoothing treatment which I couldn't dye over either so really, I haven't dyed my hair since Sept/Oct 2012 and I'm growing it out. My hair is naturally dark brown, my dyed hair is a caramel to blonde. People actually ask me whether it's balayage or ombré, so I'm pretty lucky that I didn't have to fade it out but growing it out has been a hard task. Good luck with yours!

Yes Make updates please. I've been letting my highlights grow out for 4 months now, I'm naturally a dark blonde and I get blonder highlights, but I want to stop getting highlights so I'm letting my hair grow out and the hope is to eventually to have ombré hair that way have less dying and damage. It would be really great to see how your hair transition works because then I wouldn't be as terrified to do the process myself.

ive had my hair every colour you could think of (yes blue green pink purple etc) and i've bleached it probably 6 or 7 times all over, im now detoxing and leaving it natural (a gingery brown colour) and im finding it quite hard, as i had to get it cut super short to get rid of the bad bits but im sticking with it because i'd rather have healthy hair! looking fab karissa xx

AHH I just started my blonde journey a little over a year ago, and I definitely do not want to go back dark again any time soon. Like seriously, I have legit nightmares that I'm a brunette again (thats probably weird lol), but this video gave me an awesome new thing to try so I can stay a blonde, but get my hair back healthy!

Your hair looks amazing and SO healthy. I wanted to go back to my natural colour cause my hair was so fried after being bleached and coloured so much so I just ended up shaving it off. It's nearly 2 inches long now but I invested in a heat resistant wig until it's a nice length

I have been growing out my natural hair colour for about 6-7 months! I was blonde too and dyed my hair ombre so that when I grew out my roots it wouldn't be as noticeable. At the time I had asked for an ash brown at the time but it had way more red tones than I wanted. So right now I kind of have the 3 colours which is a pain, but I am going to get more blonde highlights for my "transition" area but not touching any of my regrowth. I wish my hair grew out as fast as yours tho! Mine is really slow. I love knowing that I am doing something good for my hair. My plan is to keep the ombre with some blonde highlights just in the very front to frame my face. Please keep up with the videos! Its difficult to not do anything to my hair for this long but it keeps me motivated!!

Over the past year I dyed my hair way too much. I have naturally dirty blonde hair and made the mistake of dying it black, it looked cute but its been terrible trying to get it back. i ended up buzzing all of my hair off and am growing it all back healthier since I only really keep my hair inverted bob length anyway. but it definitely has been a process and makes you force yourself to be happy the way you are because i have no hair to hide behind anymore! I love your videos! & its my dream to move to Australia with my boyfriend.

Your hair suits you so much like that! I need to do something like this with my hair; the ends are so dry and I am constantly trimming my hair due to split ends.

Hi Karissa! Let's see i have been growing out my hair for 2 years. 2 years ago i cut my hair so short almost like a medium length bob cut. Now my hair is almost to my but i recently cut 2 inches off because the i was getting split ends. Before i started to grow my hair, 1 1/2 year before i bleached the under part of my hair with some streaks. I kind of did what you are doing to your hair. It has been a long and wonderful journey growing out my hair. I really wanted to grow out my hair for my college graduation. I plan to wear my Navajo attire when i graduate this fall 2014! So hopefully my hair is at a good long length for that. I hope your successful in your hair detox and get the results you want. Can't wait to see the new look!

I am hair detoxing as well after going from a dark chocolate back to my natural blonde. I cut it off to a shoulder level and it feels so thick and healthy. I have been doing this for six months and it has grown out into a natural ombre and it feels great. Good Luck!
