All About Panda Corydoras - Small, Gentle and Seriously Cute Catfish

Panda corydoras are possibly the most popular of all the corydoras catfish - with possibly the exception of sterbai corydoras, which grow to be significantly larger.
This video is all about how to keep panda corydoras catfish happy and what sort of setup they will thrive in. Your aquarium needs to be relatively large for such a small fish and you certainly want to get a small group of them rather than a single individual.

It's true! Pandas are super prolific and breed quite often once matured and well seasoned. I have 35 adults in my 40 gallon breeder and I'll get (1-4 day long) spawns literally every week. The most eggs I've ever pulled from my giant java moss clump in that tank is (currently) 130 eggs in a single spawn.

It's true! I have 30+ pandas, both long and standard finned, almost 10 of which I've bred and kept. In my 40G breeder I'd do 75% water change, add a large clump of java moss, and by that night females were depositing eggs, specifically 10pm to 4am. I'm only person (I know of) within hour drive of my hometown who's bred and raised them in 25+ years (still working on higher fry survival rates after 1 month old mark).

Love my Pandas. Started out with two. Luckily different sexes I happily discovered. 2 are now 6 to 8 (might be more, hard to get a count). Fry survivors of different batches, different stages of development. Wasn't in anyway expecting population growth. Just a nice development. Figured any eggs and fry would be gobbled up. So fun...

@@ollielloydjones5774 , yes. I just let them do their thing. Did provide plenty of areas for cover and hiding. The only fish that might possibly harass them are a small number of cherry barbs. But they seem more interested in chasing each other around. All and all, all of the tank mates seem to tolerate each other well.

@@Steves_fish Unfortunately my local pet store let me know that they order in groups of 15-20 but are lucky if 1 or 2 survive the shipping process. I had to drive an hour and a half but I eventually got 2 more. Its a small school but at least he's not alone anymore

Which cory would you put on top if uour favourite list? Easy fir me I adore the 3 dwarf type available, I've dozens of pygmy which seem to keep their numbers up. The way they perch of leaves tickles me, a stiff stem with robust leaves and I'll see the doubled up making the stem look like a tree of cheeky cory you've got to love them. Do uou have a Facebook page also,?

Hey Bob! Ooh my favourite Cory, that’s a tough one. Pygmy’s are certainly up there as they are adorable and so easy to accommodate, but also adolfoi and koru, and I actually really like common little pepper corys. All corys are nice though, I don’t think there is a bad one in the group 😀

i wouldn't keep them in any tank that has fry in it. They will eat eggs and any fry they find resting on the ground. Free swimming fry they are fine with.

I just got 5 panda corys yesterday. Online order and i was worried cause it took 3 days after it shipped so i was expecting all doa. Luckily all arrived alive and doing great. However my ph is off the chart. 8.4 is the last color on the test strip. Ive ordered peat granuales. Will that lower the ph enough?..cloud the water? The tank is fluval flex 15g. The only other fish are red eye tetras. Fake everything except 2 pieces of driftwood i boiled for 2 hours so no visible tannins. Any suggestions?

Hello! Nah, Corys constantly skim around on the bottom but they don't dig so unless your sand is VERY fine it should stay put :)

I got 6 from aquatics shop and they have all died off slowly 1 at a time, they were in a well established cycled tank nothing wrong with all my other fish and nothing wrong with water, I'm gutted but baffled my head cod don't know why died

I had 5 young albino corys... 2 are only left now.. i dont know how long till I can get a new batch of them, but for the mean time, will they get stressed and die cuz they are not in a bigger group yet? :(

Hey sorry for the late reply. Don't worry too much, cories like to be in big group but they are tough and resilient and they have each other for company, I would get a few more when you are able to but don't stress yourself out about it
