I know this is an old video, but at our age, what is time anymore? I did implement the black soldier fly into my quail manure. My unheated cages have a 2" deep poop tray, into which I dumped BSFL I bought on Amazon. That was 3 years ago, and I still find them each Spring. They don't eat the nuisance flies, they outcompete them. The BSF doesn't eat, only the BSFL does, and it eats so voraciously that I can hear them crunching away in the trays! I am in SE Texas, very mild winters, not sure how well BSF would do in your colder temps.

Papa needs to be on a few Monday or Sunday nights. Not that Zack is a poor host, but after watching this, Papa Dennis is hysterical! And Zack throwing questions from the sidelines was priceless. From this end, it was quail gold!

hello papa i love your videos. can you show some of us that have smaller flocks and live in apartments or have small backyards how to start a small compost bin maybe with a garbage bin or something. Beginner style would be great. if you have the time of course. thank you

Hi im the bloke who asked about the Goliath coturnix quail about 4 weeks ago. I had 15 hatch. Today they are exactly 3 weeks old. My biggest is 207gr or 7.3oz and the smallest is 171gr or 6oz. Are these birds average or are they on par to be a XXL size. Some people call them colossal quail. All mixed blood lines and colours, italian, golden Italian, light gray, standard and dark dark brown. Im just very curious. Cheers Pete Down under.

This is just a general comment regarding your videos. I want to hear your info and knowledge but I would much rather get your knowledge in a shorter video format. I have a little over a dozen quail and want to hear about poop. My problem is 20-30 minutes for any one video is about all I can handle. Bottom line for me...I would much more enjoy slightly shorter videos. I still follow but usually don't make it through a whole video.

I have the solution for you! I watch all KZbin video's on 2x speed. I am just a normal intelligence, but I have accustomed myself to paying attention to the faster flow of information. If I miss anything useful, I do simply scroll back, but that becomes less and less necessary as your brain adjusts to "speed listening". Now if I watch a video elsewhere, like Facebook, it drives me nuts because the information flows like molasses in winter!

You'll want the small pieces of detritus to mineralize and get humus. Also, check out biochar.
