I've experimented with it a little bit and honestly, my preferred settings are Smoothness all the way to the left and Cropping Speed all the way to the right. Slow cropping speed gets rid of the visible "zoom" that you otherwise see in ReelSteady footage, and low smoothness still gets rid of all the jitters but retains most of the fast movement and turns, which are otherwise lost on higher smoothness settings.

Just thinking about ways to use the gyro data. I could lay out two line of video in a multicam clip. One video could be wide unstabilized, generally keeping the subject in frame most of the time, and the other could be gyrostabilized. I could then fall back to the wider unstabilized footage, as need to keep the subject in frame. Good possibilities here. I like it.

What gopro 6 settings are a good starting point for golden hour filming for Reelsteady go?
@kthx11383 жыл бұрын
For ReelSteady, same settings as any other shooting situation: 2.7K, 4x3, 60 fps, 1/120th of a second shutter speed. For other aspects of image quality, min. ISO 100, max. ISO 400, WB 5500 (unless you want to make golden hour REALLY gold, then WB 6000-6500), color flat (for color grading in post.

@MustWorkWeekends5 жыл бұрын
The feature of "flip gyro data" is used when you record a video with the camera orientated upside side. The link with smoothness is because most of the time you will want this turned on but you have the option to turn it off when needed. A full explanation would require more typing then I'm willing to do...but, bottom line is it gives you options when a piece of footage isn't coming together the way you want.

I bought a Gopro 5 and this software just because of how smooth the footage can get. I have been using it for about a month and reelsteady has not let me down once. I can consistently get Hollywood-grade stabilized footage. Let me put it this way...for $100. less than the cost of the Hero 7 black (with Hypersmooth) I can get much more stable footage with reelsteady and Hero 5 black. If that is not good enough for you I don't understand where your expectations are coming from. 10 years ago none of this was even possible and can now be had for a few hundred bucks.
