I appreciate the insight. You pointed out some interesting aspects that I didn't consider before. I also can be socially awkward, so I find your confidence encouraging, as I worry about alienating myself.

Thank you so much for making this video! It was very helpful, even two years after you uploaded it! Also, your voice and whole vibe, in general, really remind me of Mitski-your voice is remarkably soothing, and your serene, reflective personality is echoed beautifully through your words and expressions.

as a rising gd junior at risd, this was rlly helpful. I was curious on you felt about risd’s film program in terms of preparing students for the workforce? Thank you! 💛

aw thanks for the nice comment! That is a very good question...I feel like the job I got after school was kind of random and a stroke of luck haha, so it's hard to tell! I could possibly address more in a future video.

I'm an aspiring designer and design graduate from India. I saw your video and its giving me perspective on RISD from a real person and aware of the tough nature of creative courses. I've subscribed to emails for information. The average fee is around 57,000 USD and living costs is around 20,000 to 25,000 USD which means that fresh graduates have to get at least 90,000 to 100,000 USD pay during jobs/internship etc. I'm bit skeptical if design graduates can earn that much since many people from my country go for conventional masters STEM courses costing 50,000 USD in US. Also RISD is asking for IELTS score for international students and no GRE score is required. I have an IELTS academic score of 6.5 and GRE General of 290.

hi! i am considering applying to RISD, yet i am very doubtful about whether there are enough job offers. i’d really love to hear about your experience on making a living after art college? thank you, and lots of loveee💗
@skim89913 жыл бұрын
That is the question!! haha. I think it really depends! If you go into RISD already thinking about what jobs you might be interested in, and if you tailor your work for that I think that would be super helpful (I did not do these things lol). In general, majors like graphic design, architecture, and industrial design might have better job opportunities. BUT regardless, if you have strong work, network, all that jazz I think you'll be fine! Also if you have a notable art style (maybe built towards the end of the 4 years) that will be useful, especially for freelancing. I actually want to make a video interviewing different RISD grads about this but in the meantime, def talk to an admissions person more about this :)

Hi. Can I ask you something? I can't paint, draw, can I still join RISD college? I'm a graphic design guy, not drawing, painting guy. Please reply to my comment.
@skim89913 жыл бұрын
Hey! So yes, I think it's not necessary to have a lot of drawings and paintings if you are specifically interested in graphic design-- play to your strengths! That being said, I think drawing in particular is an important aspect of conveying your ideas and RISD will probably like to see your process behind your graphic design. You don't have to be great at rendering still lives for example, and even if you draw "badly" I would recommend including at least a couple drawings that show your process! This is just my opinion :) good luck

Do you think RISD is worth the money? I'm an international student so going to RISD would be quite financially difficult for me. (I am already accepted into RISD through ED)

So I’m 13 and thinking about art colleges to get into and I’m in the highest art class in my school and really enjoy drawing. What skills would I need to build up to get into risd with the goal of illustration, character design, or graphic design? Also, how would pre college work and how do I up my chances of that in the future?
@skim89912 жыл бұрын
Dang, you're on top of it! Haha, I would just say keep doing what you're doing, also I like to warn people to not put any college on a pedal stool :) but I remember being your age and loving the times spent just delving into my passions, so just have fun with it! Draw a lot from life and keep making art in new and challenging ways!
@BobRoss-nj9et2 жыл бұрын
Aa thanks, I’ll keep that in mind! I’ve been looking for other art colleges but risd seems like the best for me in every way but the expenses, haha

Thank you for sharing can you talk about being a film major in risd? And did you change your major after freshman year?(like the major you applied?
@skim89913 жыл бұрын
Hey! Yes, I could talk about this in a future vid! I applied illustration, but it doesn't really matter what you apply as, you just have to decide your major after your freshman year!

Hi! I'm going to be attending RISD as a freshman this fall, and I'm thinking about being a FAV major. I really really like to make animated short films, so I guess I was wondering if senior year was the only opportunity to make a film? Or will I be able to make more films/shorts during sophomore-junior years too? Thanks so much!!
@skim89913 жыл бұрын
Wow so exciting!! That's awesome you are thinking of FAV and yes you will get to make things starting in Sophomore year! Usually they are shorter pieces and the teacher will teach a variety of different animation styles. I just mentioned senior year because that's when I felt I really had more of a handle on things and was given a lot of freedom and time to make one big project. 😊

are you able to get in if you have a more cartoony/less realistic art style?
@pluet_20033 жыл бұрын
im sure you can, but you must show your foundations behind that. like show you can still draw realistically, understand form, perspective, etc.
