I have a few of these in one penny, and half penny, but they are in such a state I'm afraid they're not worth much. They range in date from 1805 -1809.

A lovely coin and certainly more pocket friendly than the Cartwheel issue. Probably my least favourite George III portrait, though

I have a worn George 3rd penny. I think they were smaller than the previous cartwheel penny as the cost of the napoleonic wars had necessitated cost cutting. An early example of currency depreciation??

The 1797 penny is supposedly made of copper worth one twelfth of a silver shilling like the 1787 shilling (the gold standard was not adopted until 1816). This coin is a bit less bulky than the 1797 penny. Is this a real change in metal ratios, or just an outbreak of common sense?

I think it was smaller due to complaints about the cartwheel

The copper proof version is hard to find.
