If you use just the neck pickup, it sounds very similar to a Precision bass. Using both pickups gives you the typical Jazz bass sound and using the bridge pickup gives the thinner "Jaco" sound.

Thanks for the answer. Okay, so it is not like my Ibanez sr700 where I have an equalizer (low, medium, hight), here the two volume knob are for each pick ups ? So for pop, rock, rap, and a bit of funk, reggae it worth it? Thanks.

No, the pickups are passive so there's no "boost" for bass or treble. With passive pick ups you can only "cut" frequencies. The thing that makes the stacked knobs special is that you can mix the tone circuit of each pickup separately or together which you can't do with regular Jazz controls. The Flea Jazz will do pop, rock, rap, funk, reggae and even Metal. It's very versatile.

I think the Capt was referring to bass players who weren't also the singer, because the average person will think of the singer, regardless of the instrument they play. Lenny, Geddy, Les, etc are signature stylists on the bass, but also are unique vocalists. Flea made his name as a bass player alone. (I will say Steve Harris is the other name that popped into my head.)

But I dont consider Chris as important as Matt Bellamy. Matt is, as far as I know, the creative mind that writes most of the songs and is the lead vocals/guitar player. If Chris leaves the band, Muse will be different, for sure, but it´s not as heavy as if Matt leaves, IMO

Flea is the punk n funk of the band. He and AK create a complementary set of rhythms and stabs. He doesn't just sit in the mix. It also helps he is half naked and doesn't give a F. Quite rare for Andertons to have such a disappointing review of an instrument. Understandably the demonstrator doesn't have to be an expert of the signature artist but Nathan seemed unenthusiastic and negative. Would have benefited from an enthusiastic guitarist like Rob or Pete who could show even an ounce of interest in the instrument. Will search other channels for better!

Just got one for Christmas from my lovely wife. Flea inspired me to play. First had to get a Stingray which has been my go to bass for all my years. It's a cracking bass. The neck is super fast and it's instant Flea from Stadium Arcadium onwards. A bass that plays and sounds like a far more expensive bass. Sits in my collection very nicely.

I freaking love the Chilis, Flea is one of my absolute favourites and one of my biggest influences (For bass in general and slap, my fave songs to do are _Higher Ground_, _Can't Stop_ and _Dark Necessities_). Also some of the other really iconic bassists who play these and became one of the "famous" guys in the band are Mark Hoppus (blink-182) and Geddy Lee (Rush)

The guy who bought the bass didn't just give it to Flea, he wanted to sell it to him (having paid $35,000 for it himself) after having become rather wealthy in the late 90s from the booming internet business and some giant merger or other... He met Flea in Australia, and spoke to him about a deal, Flea in the end offered him a prototype Modulus bass (back when they were his signature basses), and the rest is history. If you Google "flea 61 jazz bass story reddit" you can find the story as told by the guy himself.

The Fender thumb rest was always quirky. When Leo first designed the P Bass and asked players what they wanted, many of them requested a thumb rest. The only problem is that Leo didn't ask what they meant (or what a "thumb rest" even was) so it ended up on the treble side for years. Eventually Fender got the hint and moved it to a much more rational location above the strings (bass side), but tons of basses were made with the rest in the "wrong" place for years. The funny thing is, most bass players tend to find resting their thumb on the edge of the pickups to be preferable, so they'd just take off the rest anyway!

That's not entirely accurate. Back in the day the classic bassplayer would play bass with his thumb. The rest on the "treble side" wasn't a thumb rest. It was a "Tug bar". You'd tug your fingers there and your thumb would strike the strings. Later more people kept moving it to the op and playing with their index and middle finger. Then Fender decided to change it on their 70s models.

So I was out trying new basses looking at the squier, fender elite, pro, and this. I just had the guy hand them to me without looking at what I was playing.. I seriously kept my eyes closed so I could just judge by feel and sound. This thing felt so good and sounded great too. The only thing that felt better was the elite with the c to d neck. The pro has the same neck with tall narrow frets which I do not like on anything but the tele. This thing kinda looks like a dog to me but it plays so sweetly.

The reason for the metal pickup cover was to reduce the audible interference caused by other equipment. These cost about £15 and is the first thing I stick on a new Jazz Bass!

I wish Fender would do some more mexican non-relic'd nitro runs - like the Classic lacquer series. I like 'roadworn' but I'd rather it just happened naturally. I have 12 year old poly guitars that I've played to death, gigs, tours, been knocked over several times, fallen off the stage, blah blah blah - that pretty much look like the day they were born. Would love them to show their history a bit more the way nitro finishes do.
