We got a CORAL today!!! Let's go! This is a more challenging coral to take care of, but they really stand out as a beauty in the tank. The main things that make it so challenging with Gorgonias is they eat a TON (filter feeders) and they grow algae on them that can cause irritation, and they aren't the easiest grabbers in a tank in order for them to stay still.
The aquacultured sea fans are much hardier and easier to take care of.
Hope everyone enjoyed today's video. Like and Subscribe!!! also follow me on social media and lets chat! I love hearing from ya'll.

The red and yellow Oregonians are non-photosynthetic which means you definitely should feed them daily. The purple brushy Gargonia’s are photosynthetic and although they like to be fed they can survive as long as they have proper lighting.

Most of the Oregonians I've met seemed fairly photosynthetic. Especially the ones from Portland; they're basically just plants that you can occasionally dump coffee into.

Most gorgonians are NOT photosynthetic. Most require feeding to survive( planktonic diet). A few are photosynthetic and those are many of the purple ones. But a vast majority are low light NPS corals. Target feeding phytoplankton small pods and rotifers.

Great video! I got mine actually for free about 3 days ago, and I’ve noticed sometimes my hermit crab will climb up the stalk and start like removing algae or like excess pieces of food or just things stuck on it, the crab isnt attacking the polyps or little buds but I’m a little worried that it’s stressing it out or removing beneficial stuff from the coral, should I just keep trying to remove the crab? Like I’m not sure if there’s much I can do, but last night the coral opened up a lot so maybe the crab is just cleaning it off, I did notice the hermits doing that with my candy cane, they were picking at the stalk of it when I added it and cleaned it off I think, and now they don’t mess with it

$30-$40 possibly more expensive? Uh nope. Especially since I can't keep $10 corals alive. Thanks for the video though Brock. When is the Keyhole Angelfish video coming out?

Thanks Brock! Can these be kept with seahorses? Suggestion-Could you please do a video on the magnifinca anemone because I have a pair of ocellaris. Love your videos!

Absolutely. Gorgonias are very good with seahorses because the branches of the gorgs make resting places and places that the seahorses can wrap their tail around. As long as you feed the gorgs enough if they are NPS

I have a red gorgonian sea fan. It generally seems healthy but one branch is slowly turning black from the extremity moving about an inch (so far) down the branch. What can be done? My well educated friend suggested cutting it off.

Hey Brock. My Gorgonian seems to stay drawn up during the daytime. The polyps come out at night. This is when my white LED’s are lowest. I have my blues, reds and greens up. I have not seen my naso or my yellow going after it. I also have a foxface. My lighting system is (2) Current Orbits 72” LED’s. ( I’m blasting it with current as well, he’s always swaying)

As long as you are seeing the polyps come out, that is a good sign. Have you tried spot feeding during the day to see if the polyps would come out?

Rip. My autofeeders latch broke at somepoint during the night a few days ago on my reef tank dumping every last drop of food into the tank. Spent forever trying to heal it, but it was already too late. Saved a lot of stuff but i lost all my xenias, my lps corals, my emerald crab, and my bubble tip. So upsetting.

Luckily my fish, nassarius snails, turbo snails, bumblebee snails, stomatella and zoas all survived. Im going to start setting up a much lsrger tank this time, move them all into it when its finally ready.
