I have a tank that is roughly 1.4 year old and I bought 2 rock flowers anemones around the second month of the tank being established. I don’t feed them and feed my fish pellets 3x a day and within the last 2 months there has been dozens of baby flower anemones all round my tank. The mature rock flowers are on the opposite side of each other on a 4ft long tank. At first I was excited about having them but now it’s getting out of control and also they all seem to be all green for some reason, could be that my tank is missing or low on some element that gives them there colors. As for filtration I have a clearisea filter roller which supposedly is 50 microns and the baby flower anemones are also growing in the mini frag area in my sump which means there going through the filter roller. I have also separated a few of them and feed them a small amount of coral foods once a week to see it that will help in changing there colors, but so far there still all green.

I can't say for sure without seeing photos of the anemones, but what you're describing sounds like textbook Borneman anemones (the pest anemones I mention in the video). Especially the part about them getting into your sump. Borneman anemones do tend to have some purple/brown on them as well, but for the most part, they're green.

So Cool ! Think that their light would be useful when cycling a new tank ?

I airways have a hard time getting them to stick to a rock or substrate. I bought a breeder box and put ruble in it.to let them attach themselves.

Sometimes if they have a stressful shipment to you or if their foot got torn at all it can take them a while to grab onto something again. But that's the right approach, a little bit of rubble in a safe spot like a breeder box and they should eventually attach to some rock.

When you say 5 inches do you mean 5 inches long or 5 inches round? I’m thinking of putting one in my 13 1/2 gallon tank and I do not want it to take a little room. Thank you appreciate your video.

Great video! How do you spell the name of the pest anemone that often gets sold as a rfa?
@NDAquaculture
@NDAquaculture 3 жыл бұрын
Borneman anemones (Phymanthus buitendijki) They are actually pretty cool anemones but I’ve seen them take over far too many sumps to ever want them in the farm.

@@NDAquaculture Wow, those are cool anemones! But I'm not tempted to get one - the xenia in my tank is enough of a nuisance. Thanks for the heads-up!

I'm not sure I would consider Borneman Anemones to be pests

They are certainly less of a pest than Aiptasia, but they've overrun every system I've seen them in. Especially in tanks with refugiums they get into the sump and clog everything up. That being said, my main problem with them is that stores sell them as Rock Flowers, I think it's fine for stores to sell them as long as they are identified properly.

Great video - I am trying to set up a 50 gallon lagoon with mainly rock flowers, trying to find a supplier in Toronto is not easy. You had mentioned RFA's and clowns - this video has a clown with one. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iWK7m6Kaps2Aj8U. Anecdotal as you say - much like Clown's living near a pump. Mine like the intake vent.
