4:05 that hole in the top you called it a “carry handle thing” or whatever, I looked into this mask a lot because I absolutely love it, anyway that is an open top for the soldiers head to prevent overheating because it allows they top of your head to release more heat rather than having all of it trapped in the rubber mask

Sebastian Sims It has multiple benefits because you have something to grab onto which makes putting it on easier and faster. It uses much less rubber so it’s much more economical, and it also prevents overheating as you said.

Just got one of these, it's actually surprisingly decent, not to difficult to breath through, not too uncomfortable, personally I use a filter hose to avoid the sag issue. (The intake on mine is hard plastic rather than rubber so it doesn't really sag that much anyway) Mine was manufactured in 1991 and has more holes on the voice diaphragm cover as you mentioned. Oh yeah and Pick Up That Can!

Interesting. I never really had any major problems with the PMG when I got it. In fact, I found it actually much more comfortable than the GP-5. To be fair, the GP-5 that I own is Size-0, but you get the point.

Before watching: This is one of my favorite masks I have. I sure hope they aren't made out of cancer or something! In my opinion, stuff like that is one of the creepiest parts of gas masks. They saved people from gas, and later gave them cancer. The thought of being slowly killed by something you thought could save you- without ever knowing. And even now, some people unknowingly use old filters, and stuff. They don't know that they are slowly poisoning themselves until they read about it. And by then, it is too late to go back.

At the time of issue asbestos filters were safe as the filter material was in good condition, asbestos is dangerous because overtime it breaks down into a dust which is then inhaled.

That would’ve been hilarious if you were actually able to fit a filter on the front because then you would be able to fit filters on the front and the side and if the filter made a tight seal then you’d still be able to breathe out because the Exhale valve is on the bottom of the mask haha

At this rate your gonna reach 20K subs before the new year, something to celebrate? 100K subs might not be impossible by 2019 but you would have to find another niche. Gas masks are just too specific to appeal to a wide audience. Maybe look into expanding into something loosely related too, like doomsday prepping, which because of the variety appeals to a larger audience especially in the states.

Were like minded so naturally I want you to do well & continue what your doing. There's only so many gas mask videos you can make before you run out of ideas. I don't mean to tell you how to do what your doing, just trying to remind you of the inevitable. Maybe consider just do one vid a week or two weeks on something loosely related to try & zone in on how your content could adapt & subs increase. To me it is a no-brainer that prepping videos whether it be advice on MRE's or water filtration etc. it could give you unlimited content that could keep you busy for years :-)

My mask has a small bit of rubber poking out of the filter port/hole ( Idk what to call it ). It also has the diaphragm with the smaller but more numerous holes. It is a size 4 made in 1991.

How do you find out the date of manufacture on the gas masks? I have a GP-5 (polish) it has F-146 95. 70.

Probably the OM-14 rather than a GP-5 but it's most likely from the 1970, generally with most warsaw PACT masks you get the serial number or batch number, that would be the F-146, a month and a year. So the year would either be 1995 or 1970 but 70 is most likely as it was a Cold War design. Lots for example may say something like 11 70 meaning November 1970 etc.

Yes but it's awkward as the Soviet hoses are not 90 degree connectors, also you'd need a GOST hose, so an old Soviet/Warsaw PACT one or maybe a modern Chinese one if it's GOST.

It was simply so whoever used it could hear better, and it's cheaper as you use less rubber making masks.

I do have a question, though. I assume the Hungarian 70M sizes exactly the same as the PMG, what size would you recommend for someone with a large head? If memory serves my head's about 26 inches around but "medium" (2) just doesn't really seem quite right unless non-NATO sizing convention is the reverse of NATO sizing convention.
