@@pakpala1 Well sort of. What basically happened is that his parents were illegally in Greece having no papers therefore had no legal status in Greece. According to Greek law even if a person is born in Greece, if their parents are undocumented they are automatically excluded from Greek citizenship and therefore have to get a passport with their parents birthplace. This very strict law is due to past loopholes in which many pregnant women would make their way into Greece just as they were ready to give birth in order to get their citizenship through birthright, with a Greek passport being one of the top 5 most accepted passports in the world, they would then leave the country for countries like Germany, France...etc. This cause hundred of thousands of people from different countries trying to make way into Greece for this purpose putting a fairly small country in chaos. In recent years this law into a "racial" thing but the truth is it doesn't matter where you are from or what skin color you have the law is the same for everyone. There is ways to get streamlined citizenship and that's through investment, something called gold visa, this is also true for exceptional people especially those in sports, for instance my buddy who is Georgian, his family was illegally in Greece but was grated legal status because on how well he did in Judo, normally this is done through recommendation. Also Giannis was not a basketball star when he got his citizenship, it was before the draft and he was fairly unknown.
