For Greece, I am Greek because both my parents were Greek. I was born in Argentina, and for Argentina I am an Argentine. Most European countries apply what is called ius sanguinis, and most american countries apply what is called ius solis. If countries like Argentina, Australia, Canada or the United States would decide to apply the ius sanguinis, there would be no real argentines, australians, canadians or americans. The application of ius sanguinis in Europe cannot be justified today, because they receive many immigrants, and it is not fair to condemn their children, born and educated there, to a second class citizenship. If Argentina had the same idea, I would be today a second class citizen in the country I was born and where I live. Instead, both cultures coexist peacefully in me, and I am proud of both of them.

@Zé Oliveira Gosh, you really are ignorant aren't you? You have gone and wrote a whole inaccurate piece about South Africa that you're clearly uniformed on. I'm from the region and you are way off the mark. For starters, no-one is being killed in SA BECAUSE THEY ARE WHITE. What a moronic thing to say! If Malema is riling up the masses and taking advantage of the political climate there it doesn't mean white people are being systematically killed. SA has a massive issue with crime and poverty and a hell lot more black people are being pulled than whites. Majority of whites there are rich so they are in the line of fire more as a proportion of people. Educate yourself than being a racist little twat on social media with your ethnocentric bullshit.

@Looks By Naheemah You are ignorant to say the least! Giannis and his brothers reached that point because of all the help and love the received from everyday Greeks. From the coffee-place owner around the corner from where he lived that fed them with free sandwiches and juices to the basketball coaches that did all they could so they could keep coming back for training. And all of that without ever asking back for a single cent!

Some clarity: Giannis is not "ethnically Nigerian" - He may have roots there, but "Nigerian" is not an ethnicity. It is a nationality, just like "Greek", and anyone of any race or ethnicity can be Greek or Nigerian. People saying "He's not Greek, he's Nigerian" sound crazy.
@PuffPuff279
@PuffPuff279 3 жыл бұрын
@UhuruSasa85 anyone can be a Greek national or a Nigerian national, but not everyone can ethnically from the two. You are doing that thing that I've seen some Americans do online (not saying that you are one) where they mistakenly conflate the two. To be Nigerian can represent your ethnic status, national status or both. Nationality and ethnicity can be different things, but they can be intertwined. The black people born in Nigeria are not only Nigerian nationals, they are ethnic Nigerians. The Lebanese children born of Lebanese businessmen and their Lebanese wives are Nigerian nationals, but they are ethnically Lebanese. So Giannis is a Greek national, but an ethnic Nigerian. If he also has a Nigerian passport too, he would also be a Nigerian national too. Hope you understand. :)
@UhuruSasa85
@UhuruSasa85 3 жыл бұрын
@@PuffPuff279 And I hope you understand, with all due respect, that what you just stated is utter horse poo. There are over 400 ethnicities in Nigeria alone. The largest ethnicities - Hausa, Yoruba, and Igbo, - are not unique to Nigeria, as they are present all over West (and Central West) Africa. The same can be said for Greece, which is far from homogenous due to its tumultuous history. You have people of Turkish, Mediterranean, North African, and even Iberian origin, whose ancestors constantly moved before the modern day Nation state called "Greece" existed. There is also a great deal of variation even among these subgroups. So again, there is no such thing as an ethnic Greek or Nigerian. If you want to say that Giannis can't be Greek because of his race, that's fine, I don't fault you, but I respectfully disagree.
@PuffPuff279
@PuffPuff279 3 жыл бұрын
@@UhuruSasa85 you think you've done something but you haven't. 🤡 I am more aware than you of the ethinicities in the place that my ethnic roots lie. Yes many of those ethnicities also exist out of Nigeria (someone did their Google's), but that doesn't mean that those of those tribes in Nigeria are not Nigerian. I did not say that he could not be Greek. How can he not be Greek when he was born there? He is just not ethnically Greek. You just don't understand the difference between nationality and ethnicity, or how they can be the same in certain instances. It shouldn't be hard to grasp either. I used an example which you didn't acknowledge, because you haven't been to Nigeria before nor are you from there (either as a Diasporan or born there). This is obvious, because you would have acknowledged what I said about Lebanese Nigerians as true. But you just glossed over it, gee I wonder why. 🤔 I don't know where your from, but in Europe we understand this. So as I said before and I will say once again he is a Greek National and he is an ethnic Nigerian. You can pretend to be an expert on that part of West Africa when you're not, or you can listen to those that are from there. The choice is always yours. 😘 Also Nigeria does not have the history of migration that the other ethnic groups do of moving to Greece. So you still haven't made any points. A diaspora Nigerian and even Nigerians born and living there would laugh at you if you told them that they aren't ethnic Nigerians. Some may identify with their group more than Nigeria itself due to some bloody history in that place, but that is a topic for another day.

@@xdx2653 that’s not correct. Russian used Greek as a template for Slavic script. That’s why the alphabet looks similar but Russian itself has nothing to do with Greek whatsoever. Similar to farsi being in Arabic script but it has nothing to do with Arabic as farsi is indo European language that predates Arabic and English and Romance languages and used to be in Babylonian script until the Arab empire settled in Persia.
